The Neighborhood:
The Old Dairy Barn sits in the upper Eden Valley on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, 10 minutes from the market town of Kirkby Stephen and 30 minutes from the Lake District. This is a walking country: the smooth, green Howgill Fells, the heights of Wild Boar Fell, and Smardale Gill nature reserve with its great stone viaduct are all close, while the celebrated Settle–Carlisle railway threads dramatic scenery nearby. Sedbergh, England’s book town, and a scattering of dale villages with old stone pubs are within easy reach. Days are for the fells, the rivers and the views; evenings for the fire and the hot tub, with the Dales all around.
