Nestled in the picturesque Chiltern's village of The Lee, this charming two-bedroom cottage offers an idyllic countryside retreat. Steeped in history as a former Guild Room for local farmers/village workers to meet, it has some unique character. Ideal for hikers, ramblers and cyclists exploring the beautiful Chiltern Hills, guests can unwind around the cosy log-burning stove in the open-plan lounge and dining area. A traditional kitchen and peaceful private gardens complete this cosy getaway.
The Lee Cottage Retreat
Nestled in the picturesque village square of The Lee, Great Missenden, this charming two-bedroom cottage offers a peaceful countryside escape. It’s the perfect base for walking, trekking, and cycling adventures in the Chiltern Hills—an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Guests can explore nearby historic trails such as the Ridgeway and Icknield Way, or visit local landmarks including Chequers, the quaint village of Great Missenden, and the Roald Dahl Museum.
Charming Interiors & Traditional Features
The property boasts a spacious open-plan ground floor that opens directly onto private gardens. As with many older cottages, there are a few steps throughout, which only enhance its character and authenticity. Original features and traditional countryside artwork contribute to a cosy, timeless atmosphere.
The dining area flows seamlessly into a traditional pine-built kitchen, complete with a handy utility room (also accessed via a few steps). Although compact, it is practical and full of charm.
Comfortable Bedrooms & Layout
Upstairs, the layout is thoughtfully split into two wings, connected by small staircases and a central shared bathroom. Both bedrooms overlook the tranquil village green. The king bedroom is dual aspect, also enjoying views of the garden, and features ample built-in wardrobe and storage space. The opposite wing houses a twin bedroom, also with original built-in storage.

Outside, the private cottage garden offers a wonderfully peaceful retreat, surrounded by rose bushes and mature shrubs. Guests can enjoy their morning coffee on the charming bistro set while soaking in the serene setting.

The Lee is a quintessential English village set on a beautiful village green. It's located in the Chilterns AONB and boasts enormous amounts of countryside, plus a sweeping hill or two! It's ideal for hikers, walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. The Chilterns are blessed with public footpaths scattered all over it's landscape and make it ideal for those seeking peace and tranquility from busy day to day life.
Just across the village green is the beloved Cock and Rabbit pub, now under new ownership and also home to a lovely café. Its garden provides sweeping views across the countryside, making it the perfect spot to stop by for an ale and a relaxing lunch or dinner.
The village shop is only a 5 minute walk.
The Lee is used for many film locations and the house was featured in an episode of Midsomer Murders (there are Midsomer Murders tours from Thame!)
