About this property
Scenic Family Villa Near Lucca - 5BR, Pool, Outdoor Dining & Space to Unwind.
Set in the Tuscan countryside, with spectacular views, yet close to the historic walled city of Lucca, this spacious and impressive 5 bedroom villa is perfect for families and groups.
Villa Rosa is the perfect house to explore the absolute best that Tuscany has to offer whilst staying in a beautiful house in an idyllic location. Here you are gifted the balance between true relaxation with sensational scenery at a countryside retreat without compromising access to the most magical of Tuscan cities, hilltop towns and vineyards. Whether you are a true foodie, wine connoisseur, history enthusiast, nature lover, sun seeker, beach goer or activity junky, Villa Rosa offers a slice of La Dolce Vita for all it's guests to enjoy.
Inside, the Villa blends rustic charm with modern comfort. A bright kitchen diner on the ground floor seats 10 and leads directly out to the garden. The kitchen includes an American-style fridge/freezer, Nespresso machine, Bialetti coffee maker and Smeg appliances. A sofa at the front of the kitchen / diner adds to the social feel of this room. Brew morning coffee while making plans to relax or sight see the day away, or enjoy a glass of wine while someone prepares a delicious Tuscan Lunch. Two highchairs are available to make meal times easier with children.
The separate living area features a spacious and stylish sitting room that is cool in the summer and boasts a fantastic wood burner for the cooler months. At the front this open plan room, towards the garden, is a family area with rattan seating, toys and space to play. The children can run in and out of the house and if a child free holiday is on the cards, enjoy the peace and shade of this area while looking out towards the pool and olive trees in the garden through the double doors.
The first floor features a truly fantastic Master Suite with king bed and toddler bed. There is also plenty of space for a travel cot. Guests are treated to a huge en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower, bath and double sinks. Double doors open onto a private balcony with table and chairs - ideal for morning coffee with countryside views.
Two further lovely bedrooms on this level enjoy dual aspect pool and hillside vistas as well as king-size beds. Upstairs you'll find another king room with pool views and a children's room with four singles. Two travel cots are provided and all rooms can accommodate a cot easily.
Communal bathrooms include a spacious family suite with large shower and double sinks on the second floor plus a charming WC with shower on the half landing.
The garden and pool are easily accessed through two sets of double doors from the kitchen and the living area which gives the house a lovely inside/outside holiday feel.
Outdoors, relax by the large pool with Roman steps and soak up the sun on loungers with parasols. A pergola with adjustable shade offers comfortable outdoor seating, while a gazebo provides shaded dining with BBQ. Wherever you choose to eat, relax or play, the garden at Villa Rosa provides a stunning location to do so. Olive trees, jasmine at the entrance and fireflies in June create a magical Tuscan setting.
There is ample parking for 5 cars at the front of the house.
If an active holiday is what you are seeking, two E-Bikes are included - pop to Bakery Cesari in Diecimo for delicious bread, pastries and savouries in less than 20 minutes. Explore the sensational countryside around Villa Rosa with the comfort and security of an E-Bike or cycle to Lucca in around 1hr15 along the Serchio River cycle path.
The terrain in this part of Tuscany draws cyclists in abundance so if road or mountain biking is your thing you will be in great company, with hill climbs and exhilarating descents to satisfy all abilities.
There is a lovely walking loop through nearby Partigliano taking about 30 minutes that takes in the sensational views around Villa Rosa. Alternatively, head down into the nearest village of Valdottavo and enjoy a coffee or Aperitivo in one of the two authentic Italian cafe bars that the village has to offer, sleepy by day but with a livelier local atmosphere on summer evenings. Valdottavo also provides all the other amenities needed for the perfect holiday, a salumeria, general store, post office, pharmacy and a sweet play park for little ones. Head here and park easily in 5 minutes by car or 30 minute walk - be mindful of the climb up the hill on the way home!
There is a large supermarket nearby if cooking for the family is on the cards but one of the best things about the location of Villa Rosa is the abundance of good, local restaurants close by.
Ristorante La Terrazza, may look unassuming but the fantastic and well priced food here adds to the joy of finding an authentic, local restaurant near your holiday home.
Other recommendations include La Fonte in Pegaio for great pizza and for those on the lookout for something a little higher end you must visit Antica Locanda di Sesto for a truly delicious Tuscan meal.
The jewel in the crown of this area of Tuscany is the nearby walled city of Lucca. One of Tuscany's most magical small cities - enclosed entirely within perfectly preserved renaissance walls. Inside the walls you will find a calm, elegant world of narrow medieval streets, hidden courtyards, beautiful piazzas, artisan shops, family-run trattorias, wine bars and excellent gelato.
Lucca has tourism but remains local and lived-in. This is a city where people ride their bikes to work, grandparents sit in the piazza and chat, and children play football on the ancient stones. One of the most unique things you can do here is to cycle or walk the full 4.2km loop on top of the city walls (a leafy, car-free park in the sky).
There is always something happening: open -air concerts, the world famous Lucca Summer Music Festival (2025 hosted Ed Sheeran, Paul McCartney, Morissey and Alanis Morisette to name a few).
There are classical music and opera recitals to be found, food festival in the autumn and winter, and a huge antiques market the 3rd weekend of every month, filling the streets with treasures. Lucca is lively all year round, not only in summer. Stroll round a piazza for a morning coffee, explore the many churches and towers in the afternoon, cycle the walls at sunset and finish the day with fresh pasta and a glass of Tuscan wine.
It is the perfect base for exploring wider Tuscany too - take the direct train from Lucca to Florence or visit further afield Siena with just one connection at Pisa.
Other worthwhile destinations from Villa Rosa include the hilltop town of Barga or head to Montecatini Terme and catch the furnicular (dating from 1898) up to picturesque Montecatini Alto. Go inland to the lovely town of Pistoia or head to the coast in 45 minutes to the beaches of Lido di Camaiore or Viareggio. Whilst at the coast, take in chic Pietrasanta, also known as the 'City of Artists' to immerse yourself in small art galleries, marble sculpture and heritage or simply enjoy the cafe/wine bar culture that Pietrasanta has to offer.
A final (and huge bonus) to a stay at Villa Rosa are the ski slopes of Abetone. Less than an hour away this small ski resort attracts locals for weekend and holiday skiing. After a day on the slopes, head back to your holiday home, light the log burner and pour yourself a glass of Vino Rosso. Enjoy the cosy and comfortable living room and make plans for your Sunday morning wandering the streets of Lucca.
