About this property

Spectacular 6-bed house in beautiful manor park

This newly renovated 19th century stable straddles the boundary of pristine manor gardens and a lush oak forest, with private road access leading directly to the nearby lake. The Stable (“Stallet” in Swedish) of Mariehov Manor was designed to combine modern luxury living with rustic Swedish charm. Enjoy breathtaking views of nature through the giant windows of an open-plan loft, the balcony overlooking the forest, or the private terrace and garden space bordering pristine manor gardens.

Three comfortable and spacious double bedrooms and 2 modern bathrooms make up the bright ground floor. With underfloor heating throughout, exposed wood beams and charming views from each window, this space will immerse you in the comfort and peace of the Swedish countryside.

The top floor is a huge, beautifully designed, open-plan living space including 2 couch areas, a 10-person dining table and a high-spec kitchen equipped for serious as well as casual cooks. This floor is bright with natural light from 2 giant windows and a pair of doors leading out onto the large balcony where you can enjoy breakfast with a view of the lush oak forest.

You'll have full access to the entire Stable cottage including the private garden area and terrace, secure parking, as well as a private gated road and driveway.

We are usually at home and other families live on the grounds as well as the groundskeepers but your privacy and well-being are our foremost priority.

Please feel free to ask about bicycles, kayaks or use of the boat slip. You can easily access the lake from the dock just moments down the road, or the nearby sandy beach for swimming and any other water activities.

Nature lovers will enjoy the benefits of forest bathing and the multitude of wildlife – from moose and deer to owls, eagles and pheasants, there is plenty of birdspotting to do alongside foraging for wild mushrooms, berries and wildflowers in the private forest and the surrounding fields.

Please be aware that the property is surrounded by a low electric fence designed to keep out wild boar, while allowing all other wildlife to freely pass.

Situated on the 11 hectar grounds of Mariehov manor, the Mariehov stables enjoy complete privacy and beautiful surroundings, a short walk from picturesque Mariefred just 35 minutes by train from Stockholm. From the wrought-iron gates, the private road winds through lush oak forest, planted on the royal hunting grounds over 400 years ago. Lake Mälaren, one of western Europe's largest lakes, is just a 3-minute walk from the house and offers fresh, clean swimming down the gravel road from Mariehov. Just a short 15-minute stroll from your splendid forest cottage you’ll find yourself in the picturesque 16th century village of Mariefred, built along the shores of lake Mälaren. A myriad of small cafés, bakeries, restaurants, shops and art galleries dot the village lanes, tempting passersby with everything from freshly baked pastries, local cheese and honey to books, jewellery and fashion. The church, completed in 1697, hosts choir concerts and of course a visit to the royal castle museum from 1537, Gripsholms Slott, is one of Mariefreds most spectacular attractions. The castle boasts one of the world’s oldest and largest portrait galleries and one of Europe’s most well-preserved theatre stages from the 1700's. Mariefred offers many choices of dining out, from the cosy restaurant Han i Hörnet which offers the best food to fine dining at Gripsholms Värdshus, you will also find many more choices within the area.

You can easily get around by walking or bicycling to Mariefred and its surroundings. There is also free parking throughout Mariefred including near the local groceries and shops if you decide to take your car.
