About this property

The Granary Barn - A little luxury retreat

Experience luxury, comfort, and peace at The Granary, a beautifully converted barn offering three distinct private garden spaces. Whether you're looking to explore Norfolk or seeking a restful environment to focus on work, this retreat is designed for you.

The Granary might appear small but is deceptively spacious inside and is part of the stunning complex of buildings from late Georgian, early Victorian farm and small holding.

The Granary has a tasteful, eclectic mix of mid century and comfortable modern furniture. With an open plan layout yet discreet nooks for reading or working.

Main Bedroom
The bedroom has a king sized, wrought iron bedstead under the original barn beams. There are side tables with bedside lamps, a standing mirror and additional bedspreads or blankets available.

There is a walk-in dressing room and wardrobe with plenty of storage for luggage and clothing can be hung on two hanging rails or folded on shelves. A hairdryer and additional towels can also be found in this space.

There’s a full length mirror in the bedroom and also an iron and ironing board stored in the dressing room.

We may be biased, but we think the bedroom is a wonderful relaxing space. We’ve purposefully left it uncluttered to bring greater peace through simplicity.
For those that appreciate these things - the plug sockets are plentiful and sensibly located.

Windows are small, because they are the original openings from the barn, we’ve added a velux for extra light not that it’s dark in any way. It’s a lovely light space with windows to both sides of the room. The velux window does have an integrated blackout blind.

For tall people over 6 foot 1, mind your head on the beams. The beams are characterful but commonsense is required to bow your head slightly if you are blessed with height.

Bathroom
A unique bathroom space with floor to ceiling soft pink onyx ceramic tiles and brass fittings. A walk-in shower with useful alcoves for products, there is a heated, illuminated mirror and a good sized standalone bath all under the exposed original barn beams. Find the switches to the fan, lights and mirror on the outside of the bathroom, to the left of the door.

Downstairs
The entrance hall does the job as a space to drop bags, store shoes and hang coats.

Dining room, Living Room and Kitchen.
All three are large spaces that flow into each other. The Dining Room is at the front of the barn, in the oldest section. The unique conical pillars are exposed and when sat at the large dining table, the glazed double doors open out onto the private courtyard rose garden with the walled garden beyond that. It’s a beautiful place to eat or work when staying at The Granary, no matter the season.

The Living Room has a comfy, large L-shaped sofa with a sizable coffee table that can be used to spread out your books, magazines and drinks.
There is a Sony TV connected to an Apple TV for streaming channels.

This space also boasts a vintage hi-fi system with Bose 901 speakers, celebrated for their cult status among audiophiles and music enthusiasts. A design classic, the Bose 901 speakers add a touch of nostalgia and sophistication. Let us know if you’d like to borrow a few albums from our collection during your stay.

Kitchen
This is a decently sized kitchen with plenty of preparation and storage space. We’ve spent time stocking this with everything you would need to prepare meals. The knives are sharp and you have all the utensils, plates, dishes and cutlery you’d need.

Integrated into the kitchen units are a large fridge and freezer, washing machine and dishwasher.

The range is ceramic hob with five elements and a warming plate. It has three ovens. If you want to cook a full Christmas meal, you can.

There’s a Nespresso machine with a few capsules to get you started and a milk foamer for a perfect latte.

If you find you need any kitchen item during your stay, let us know and we can loan you items from our own kitchen.

Just off the kitchen is the downstairs toilet. It might not have a view but it’s packed full of charm.

Reading and work room.
Finally, just off the living room is a wood panelled quiet corner. Simply furnishing to focus you on rest, reading or working. With a deeply comfortable original 1950’s lounge chair, a marble topped desk and an exceptional Olivetti Lettera 32 typewriter for those who prefer the manual touch.

Outside
The gardens to the front begin with a courtyard garden of a yew quadrant with white Desdemona roses spilling over and a tinkling water feature and lead to a larger walled garden with informal, dry garden planting set against a formal lawn with young yew topiary. It’s a peaceful place that enjoys the morning sun. There are plenty of benches and spots to sit quietly.

At the rear is a more modern garden with several seating areas and a dining table alongside the modernist extension of the barn, clad in black industrial panelling to evoke the orignal farm building use. This is roughly west facing so takes the majority of the sun, especially in the Autumn and Winter months.
The back garden is a little more underdeveloped than the front but we do have high standards when it comes to gardening.

All the three outside spaces are private to you.

Finally, special mention should go to our two Russian Blue cats that may make an appearance. Feel free to wholly ignore or engage with them. They are incredibly friendly and social. We don’t normally allow them in the Granary to keep this a pet free space. If you wish for their company, that’s fine too and is undertaken at your own discretion. But you can’t keep them, they are much loved by us.
