About this property
Beautiful Cottage Within Scottish Nature Reserve - Pass the Keys
A rare opportunity to stay in a stunning cottage nestled in the heart of southern Scotland's beautiful Cairnsmore Fleet Nature Reserve.
The cottage boasts incredible views from every window including the impressive Viaduct.
A wonderful base for nature lovers, it is the perfect getaway for guests who love to walk or cycle.
The cottage itself is warm and welcoming. In the summertime it offers a private garden overlooking the rolling hills and in winter, a cosy log burner for cosy evenings.
Viaduct Cottage is nestled within the Cairnsmore of Fleet National Nature Reserve and within a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Walk out of the door of the cottage straight onto the nature reserve with its miles of stunning Scottish countryside for walking or cycling.
To the north, is the 200,000 acre Galloway Forest Park where you can go north for 40 miles or more and only have to cross one road this is known as the Queens Way.
The Forest Park is also a designated Dark Sky Park, so expect spectacular starry skies on a clear evening.
There are three lochs to the north within easy reach, Grannoch, Skerrow and Fleet. To the south, there’s the beaches and towns of the Galloway coast.
Enter the cottage to a convenient porch area where coats and boots can be left after your day exploring the area.
From the hallway, you will enter the spacious but cosy open plan sitting, dining and kitchen area which boasts a stunning vaulted ceiling.
Comfortable sofas in the sitting area coupled with the log burner make it the perfect spot for a relaxing and cosy evening in front of the TV. Alternatively catch up with a good book from the selection on the bookshelf, there is also plenty of room for family games night!
2 sets of double patio doors make the most of the spectacular views and lead directly out to the enclosed private garden area with patio, flower beds and outdoor furniture.
In warmer months the patio is the most idyllic location for an evening glass of wine or early morning coffee.
The large dining table is fantastic for sociable mealtimes and is conveniently located next to the kitchen.
The fully equipped kitchen has everything needed to prepare anything from a light lunch to full evening meal and boasts quality appliances such as a Smeg oven and hob, large fridge/freezer and dishwasher.
Move back through the hallway to find the 3 bedrooms and main bathroom.
Bedroom 1:- Double bed with bedside tables and good size wardrobe for personal belongings.
Bedroom 2:- Spacious bedroom with double bed, bedside tables and double wardrobe.
Bedroom 3:- Twin beds with bedside table and wardrobe.
The main bathroom is spacious with a full size bath and over bath shower.
The cottage also benefits from a separate cloakroom with WC & Basin for convenience.
Cairnsmore of Fleet National Nature Reserve (NNR) is one of the wildest places in south-west Scotland but, is still surprisingly accessible. It’s a paradise for walkers, with panoramic views over a patchwork landscape of muted colours.
With superb views over the Cree Estuary and stretching across the border towards the Lake District in England, Cairnsmore's mixture of wind-clipped summit heath, heather moorland and blanket bog supports a range of wildlife. This includes some of Scotland's most iconic birds, such as red and black grouse and the occasional golden eagle. If you’re quick, you may spot a peregrine falcon, the world’s fastest bird.
Furry friends are welcome at the cottage, please let us know at time of booking if you are bringing them along.
We look forward to welcoming you to Viaduct Cottage where we are sure you will wish to return time and again!
Guests will have access to entire property and private garden area.
