About this property
Rhubarb and Custard - a quirky, cosy narrowboat in a nature reserve by the sea
Rhubarb and Custard is a beautiful fully restored 68 ft narrowboat nestled on the tidal estuary of the River Adur in Shoreham by Sea. The vibe is quirky retro and we hope to take you back in time with the decor.
She sleeps up to 4 guests in 3 bedrooms ( with small double beds 6’2”x4’) and also has 2 bathrooms, one with a shower. There is a fully fitted kitchen with gas hob and oven, a fridge freezer, microwave, toaster, airfryer and all you need to prepare meals. At the front there is a saloon with a wood burning stove, internet and a seating area. Rhubarb has heating though out and fans are provided in summer . There is an outdoor space to sit and eat and to admire the wildlife. On site you will also be able to borrow kayaks (when the tides are high) and bikes to explore the area. Rhubarb and Custard is part of a fasinating unique houseboat community with lots of places to explore from the sea (only 1 minute away) to the South Downs National Park and the vibrant city of Brighton. There is a great children’s playground nearby and shops and restaurants are all a short walking distance.
Please note- the max head height inside Rhubarb is 6’3” and the beds are small doubles.
There are stairs up to the property and into Rhubarb so she may not be suitable for persons of limited mobility.
Rhubarb is on a private mooring shared with other accommodation ( belonging to us) so we ask guests to be respectful and quiet, especially between the hours of 11pm and 8am.
There is a cheap pay carpark (£5.40 per day) right by Rhubarb and free parking available on the streets nearby.
Fresh bed linens, towels, complimentary soap, shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, hand soap , toilet paper, washing up liquid, tea, coffee, fresh coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, oil and herbal tea are provided.
The tap water is drinkable
There is fast unlimited WiFi on board
There are books and games provided for entertainment
We do not provide a tv, we hope you can switch off and enjoy the surrounding but please bring a device if you wish to watch something.
Rhubarb sits on mud flats and the river is tidal so the water is not always around the boat. When the tides are up, over 6m above sea level, Rhubarb will float for 1.5 hours then sit back in the mud. Message me if you would like to know what the tides are doing for dates you are interested in.
We are ok with dogs but would ask you to message us first.
Rhubarb is perfect for families with children but we ask you to be mindful on the boat and around the mooring.
Rhubarb is not big enough for a travel cot.
