About this property

Cowshed East Orielton, Holiday Cottage Nr Bosherston, Sleeps 4, 2 bedrooms, bathrooms

Cowshed East Orielton is a charming semi-detached stone cottage, an original barn conversion one of a small, characterful cluster of cottages set around a communal lawn, created from the former farm buildings in the peaceful hamlet of Orielton. The owner lives next door, offering a friendly presence and local knowledge if needed.A traditional stable door opens into the welcoming kitchen/diner, where many original features have been beautifully retained, including exposed stonework and beams. An attractive archway with a single step down leads into the spacious sitting room, where a wood-burning stove creates a warm and cosy retreat on cooler days. French doors open onto a pretty, enclosed rear garden with a gravel patio, ideal for al fresco dining. Backed by mature woodland, the garden is alive with birdsong, making it a delight for wildlife enthusiasts, while the area’s dark skies offer truly spectacular stargazing. Stairs from the sitting room lead to two inviting bedrooms tucked into the eaves, featuring exposed A-frame beams that add to the cottage’s rustic character.Set in the heart of the Pembrokeshire countryside, yet just three miles from the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, footpaths abound with a number of circular routes from your door, the cottage is perfectly placed for exploring some of the region’s finest beaches and coastal scenery, all within a five-minute drive. Highlights include the breath-taking Barafundle Bay, accessed via the Coastal Path, Stackpole Quay, perfect for kayakers looking to take to the water, with its popular National Trust tearoom, and the tranquil Lily Ponds at Bosherston, leading down to Broad Haven South. Surfers and film fans alike will love Freshwater West, a long sandy beach with dramatic scenery, famously featured in films such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Robin Hood. Don’t miss the iconic Green Bridge of Wales and the tiny 6th-Century St Govan’s Chapel, clinging spectacularly to the cliffs. Both lie within the Castlemartin Military Firing Range, a vast area of coastal landscape where seasonal access allows walkers to explore quieter sections of the Coastal Path and discover unique flora and fauna.A 40 minute walk from the cottage takes you via footpaths and bridleways to the Speculation Inn, alternatively there is a choice of excellent pubs and restaurants within easy reach including the unique Paternoster Farm, the welcoming Stackpole Inn, and the Point House Inn in Angle, set in a wonderful position overlooking the water. The historic town of Pembroke is just a 10-minute drive away and offers a good range of facilities. Here you can explore the majestic medieval Pembroke Castle, birthplace of Henry VII, and enjoy a leisurely stroll around its picturesque mill pond.Cowshed East Orielton is a superb holiday home for a couple or family to escape to, and an ideal base from which to explore all that this beautiful corner of Pembrokeshire has to offer. Please note that this property is set in a unique location over 2 ½ miles away from Castlemartin military firing range. The range covers an area of 2400 hectares on the South Pembrokeshire coast within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The Castlemartin military range closes for the month of August and there are guided walks available during August on the scenic coastal area that covers the military range.Castlemartin has the highest concentration of seabirds on the Pembrokeshire mainland, including Guillemots, Razorbills and Kittiwakes.  Most important of all, it provides an ideal habitat for the nationally-rare Chough. The coastal heath and unimproved grassland also supports birds such as Wheatears, Skylarks, Meadow Pipits and Stonechats. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path, a National Trail, crosses Range East (during non-firing periods) and inland along 8 km of roads past Range West. When firing is in progress the road diversion through Bosherston provides a longer walk. Vehicle access is available to Stack Rocks and St Govan’s Chapel. Both of these are popular with sightseers, climbers and fishermen. The sea cliffs provide some of the best cliff climbing in the UK.
