About this property
Blue House - Four Bedroom Villa, Sleeps 8
A welcoming, cliff-top home with garden gate beach access and inspiring views across the Aegean to the island of Skopelos.
Immersed in five acres of verdant, wooded coastline in the northwest of Skopelos, and designed by the famous French architect Marc Held, Blue House is a wonderful sanctuary for those in search of peace, tranquillity and spellbinding sea views. With exclusive use of a 15m-long pool, direct access to the sea, and close proximity to the charming town of Glossa, guests staying at Blue House are very much spoilt for choice.
Inside: accommodation at Blue House is arranged over two levels.
The front door of the main house leads in to a large open-concept space that's been divided into three distinct areas. To the right is a living area with a comfortably cushioned L-shaped sofa and a curvaceous corner. To the left, meanwhile, is a dining area and then a well-equipped galley kitchen that's partially divided from the main space by a work station-cum-bar. White is the predominant colour, from the high wood-beamed ceilings and the walls to the painted brick built-in sofa and the kitchen bar. Windows and French doors bring in the sea views and the light, and the atmosphere is airy and summery.
Towards the rear of this open-plan space is a guest WC, stairs leading to the first floor, and the first bedroom, a double-twin with en-suite shower room and access to a side terrace.
The first floor is home to three bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms, all accessed off a central corridor. On either side is a double-twin bedroom, each one with a sea-view balcony, while at the centre, facing directly out to sea, is the main bedroom, a double with a long panoramic balcony.
Outside: Blue House is immersed in around five acres of unspoilt coastal landscape, which guests are welcome to explore.
Surrounding the house on three sides is a panoramic terrace accessed from both the communal open-plan space and from the ground floor bedroom. To one side is a shady al fresco dining area, served by a barbecue, while to the front is a fabulously panoramic belvedere, with wide-open views out to sea and across to neighbouring Skiathos. West-facing, this is also the perfect spot for those who love watching summery sunsets.
An umbilical path connects the house to the wonderful heatable infinity pool, whose 15m-long expanse of sky blue water is great both for serious swimming and for more laid-back aquatic pursuits. Served by a bar and a shower, this is where you may well end up spending most of your days.
The pool area does have competition, however: around 100 steps lead down through the verdant grounds down to Koutria beach, a secluded and quiet stretch of pebbles lapped by the cobalt and emerald tinged waters of the Aegean.
Blue House offers a fantastic infinity pool, offering swimmers stunning views while in the pool. There is a drop on the infinity side so we recommend children are supervised at all times. Please refer to our general safety page if you would like more information about infinity pools
Due to the relatively limited number of hydrofoil/ferry connections between Skiathos and Skopelos in the shoulder seasons, we recommend booking morning flights or, alternatively, adding a night in Skiathos town the day before and/or after your time in Skopelos.
The rocky sea access below the house, which may not be usable in the case of rough sea conditions, involves about a mile's walk through the grounds. The descent/ascent is quite steep and involves about 100 steps, so may not be for everyone.
Because of natural changes to the coastline from season to season, the sea access below this property may not look as it does in the photos.
Due to the nature of the property including terraces low walls and several drops around the grounds, children must be supervised at all times.
Occupying a privileged cliff-top position on the northwest coast of Skopelos, Blue House is just a couple of kilometres from the charming village of Glossa, whose whitewashed streets and shady square offer great views and a variety of amenities, including shops and tavernas.
Gorgeous Skopelos Town and harbour, situated in the southeast of the island, is about 40 minutes' drive away.
Skopelos island is the perfect size to explore in a week or two and offers a good range of activities. A variety of beaches are dotted all around the island's nearly 70km of coastline. Some, such as those in Skopelos Town, Panormos and Limnonari are easily accessible. Others can be reached only on foot or by sea, an excellent excuse for hiring a boat for a day or two and exploring the island's gorgeous coves and bays.
Skopelos is also a green and pleasant island, and the vibrant colours, heady fragrances and cooling shade of its pine and oak woods contend with the multi-blue-hued sea for visitors' attention. There are several good walking trails across the hilly interior, whose two main peaks, Mount Palouki and Mount Delphi rise to 546m and 681m respectively. You will come across numerous monasteries on your way, as well as some superb views and a few sleepy villages where time seems to have stood still. One walk will lead you to the chapel of Agios Ioannis, which enjoyed its 5 minutes of fame as one of the locations for the film Mamma Mia!
Finally, just across the water, is Skopelos's sister Sporades Island, Alonissos, and its Marine Park. Both are highly recommended and easy to get to.
For more information about hydrofoils and ferries to and between the Sporades Islands, please see our dedicated page.
