About this property
Owlswood Lodge country retreat
Nestled in the heart of the countryside, this idyllic holiday home offers the perfect blend of tranquility and natural beauty. Perched on the gentle hillside, the property boasts stunning, uninterrupted views of the sea, where golden sunsets paint the sky in the evening.
Surrounded by lush green fields and your very own private woodland this is a haven for nature lovers, walkers and those seeking a peaceful escape.
Set in the country side, although not too far out of town, Owlswood Lodge is surrounded by breath taking views and countryside.
Close enough to Kirkwall to enjoy the local shops, fine local produce and our popular pubs and restaurants, but far enough away to enjoy the country get away.
Further afield, you are just several miles from Orphir, the birth town of John Rae, the Artic explorer who discovered the final link in the Northwest passage and his home , the Hall of Clestrain.
The cottage overlooks Scapa Flow, which was a Royal Navy base during the First and Second World War, and is steeped with history, including the sinking of the infamous Royal Oak, which met its end in 1939, the marker buoy can be seen from the Kitchen window.
The RSPB Hobbister is right on the back of the cottage, where you may see short eared owls or hen harriers, and the nearby coastal walks may treat you to a sighting of red breasted mergansers or black guillemots.
You can walk part of the Magnus St Way, a 58 mile pilgrimage trail, featuring 6 different sections. Part 6 is Orphir to Kirkwall.
Inside, the homes combines rustic charm with modern comfort, featuring cozy living space, a very well equipped kitchen and inviting bedrooms that promise a restful nights sleep and amazing views when you open your curtains in the morning!
Boasting 4 bedrooms, including 1 superking bedroom (which can be converted into a twin room), 1 double bedroom - with ensuite, and 2 x single rooms the property is the perfect place for your family trip, work trip or group holiday.
The large kitchen is very well equipped with all your cooking essentials, including a microwave, double oven, fridge freezer, air fryer and more. Our large dining table means you have plenty seating for all of you plus more should you wish to entertain.
Wash up after dinner and enjoy the beautiful views from the kitchen window.
If you have accessibility challenges, we have accessories to help make your stay more enjoyable, such as elephant feet for raising the bed, a shower chair and raised toilet seat. Our property is wheelchair friendly and has added hand rails in the bathroom and shower.
We also offer a travel cot and highchair for those travelling with infants - just mention this when you book!
The property has a separate utility room with washing machine and clothes roof rack with plenty space for storing boots and pet belongings.
Did we mention we are pet friendly?
Guests have access to the entire property, and private woodland below. Dogs must be kept on leads to minimise risk to local wildlife and farm animals.
