Notes on A/C, internet, noise, neighbours, etc The house has high speed steady internet. We have tested it numerous times with our kids and had our music accounts, email, netflix, online searches and my son's game site open all at once. The 5G speed of this Eastlink service stood up well and the search times were close to the service I have at home in Hamilton. In terms of reliability, we chose Eastlink because their track record was good, and we have not had any "outages". The air conditioning is a brand new central air system (we put in a new furnace and AC system when we renovated this summer). I have not yet tested it because it is winter, but the unit is more than adequate for the house size. We have had some time to test the furnace system and it heats the house very well. We also insulated the entire house to meet new energy incentive standards and it is extremely efficient, so the units don't actually run nearly as much as mine at home. We also put in brand new windows for the same reason. In terms of noise, Highway 6 to Sauble Beach is across the creek about a city block or two away, and on a Friday night you do hear some of the car traffic, it is a "one lane each way" paved road through town, so it is nothing like hearing a 400 series highway. Because it is a village, there are two houses on the other side of the road from the house (not opposite but on each side). The neighbour to the one side is on the other side of the creek, and the neighbour on the other side is closest; their house is about 20 feet away. We have gotten to know them well and they are a stable and quiet family. The creek curls around the house (beside and behind), so the neighbours behind are on the other side of the creek. You do hear the quiet babbling of the creek at night.

Thanks so much Susan. We look forward to your next stay coming up.
Our annual visit to Shallow Lake was once again a wonderful time. So quiet and relaxing. The cottage is so convenient for trips all around the area. So clean and welcoming. Cannot recommend enough.
The property and the host were awesome. The home was clean, modern with great amenities and only 15 minute drive to Sauble beach. he host (Bettie) was wonderful, welcoming, and answered all our questions leading up to our booking. Bettie also provided a number of suggested activities to do when we were on site. We will most certainly return.
My friends and I were very comfortable at Creekside Cottage. It is well designed, cozy and tastefully decorated. Our favourite place in the house was the spot off the kitchen where we could curl up in an armchair with a book and a view of the running brook. A gem!
Always a highlight of our summer. Perfect location for exploring Grey/Bruce county. So relaxing to be out of the fray in Shallow Lake and a short drive to so many locations. This year we spent time at the Grey County museum and the reconstructed village there which was nice to give the kids some perspective. As always the house was impeccable. So nice that everything is so organized and clean! Can't wait to come back.
This cottage kept coming up in our search and we hesitated. We never traveled to this area before and just weren't sure. However, we are so glad we booked! It truly was a perfect location in-between Owen Sound, Sauble Beach and an easy drive up north to Tobermory. We explored all of those places. The hostess was top notch; she was personable, quick to communicate, offered suggestions at our request and knew what local things were appropriate for the age of our children (6 and 8). The cottage had everything we needed. We spent time inside and outside and enjoyed evening walks on the streets through the neighborhood. We found the amenities to be very comfortable and weren't disappointed by anything! We would book again without hesitation!
I would urge anyone that is considering a vacation in the vicinity of the Bruce Peninsula and surrounding areas to take a very good look at this property.
It is a fantastic, well designed, fully equipped cottage and as soon as you walk in the door and look inside the place you just know that you have made an excellent choice.
My wife and myself stayed there for 3 nights but would have been more than happy to stay for longer. I cannot think of any negative comments whatsoever to say about Creek Cottage, Bettie is an amazing host and was very quick to communicate and so kind in letting us stay a little longer than planned on our check out day.
It is a seriously good 'home from home' property and excellent value for money considering the location and sheer quality and love that has gone into this place.
Maison bien localisée pour diverses activités bien équipée, confortable et très bien décorée. Les propriétaires sont très avenants en offrant plusieurs informations pertinentes et en s’assurant que notre séjour soit des plus agréables..
The creekside cottage had a great “in the woods” feel with all the trees and stream running through the property while having a great coffee shop a short block away. The cottage was just a few minutes to Sauble Beach and the kayaking and cycling routes we had planned. Owen Sound was also close with lots things to do there. Creekside cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed!!
We were thrilled to be able to return to Creekside Cottage for a winter week-end getaway. Again we had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the cozy ambience and gorgeous views. The bottle of wine and chocolates waiting for us was also such a great welcome! And once again, our time went too fast and we were sad to have to leave so soon.
This was a wonderful little cottage that was immaculately clean and well stocked. Beautifully decorated with quality and comfort in mind. The outdoor garden area with a stream running through it was peaceful and calming. We didn't want to leave!
We love the Creekside Cottage. So quiet and perfect to come home after a either a day at Sauble Beach/exploring the Bruce Trail or a day in Owen Sound. So clean and comfortable. Everything you need to to relax.
We had a great stay at this cottage! The cottage was clean and well set up for guests. We enjoyed being so close to the creek, and used the fire pit each night. The cottage is only 10-15 min from Sauble beach, Owen Sound, and several conservation areas. Our boys fished in Shallow Lake a few times and caught 12 fish. The general store had everything, and the coffee shop and restaurant were good as well.

Thanks Shannon! We are so glad you had a great time!
Peaceful and quiet jumping point for exploring Grey-Bruce County
This was a super clean, cozy and charming cottage. The owner is very organized and easy to deal with. Shallow Lake is a quiet town, the general store and coffee shop have everything you need. We have 3 young children - we went to Sauble Beach and Story Book Park during our stay. Berford Lake (north shore) also has a great beach that is much quieter than Sauble if you're looking for a change of pace. The playground in Shallow Lake (beside the arena) is AMAZING - best playground we have ever seen and perfect for those 6 am wake ups when I needed to get the kids out of the house so my hubby could catch some more sleep.
Overall it was a great vacation - with 3 small children I wouldn't say I was relaxed (LOL) but the kids had an awesome experience. I would love to come back sans kids and make use of all the cozy reading nooks at this cottage!
FYI - you'll need to do some baby proofing when you arrive at this cottage if you have toddlers - there are lots of interesting things for them to get into and touch. : )
The cottage was welcoming, nicely decorated and very clean.
The location was central to the places we wanted to visit. Communication with Bettie was 5 star. She was very helpful!
I would recommend this cottage to my friends and family. 😀
The Creekside Cottage is an expanded, renovated house that is in immaculate condition. It sits beside a stream with lots of mature trees around it. My wife enjoyed her morning tea out on the deck listening to the running water. Perfect. The grounds are well taken care of. We found everything we needed in the cottage including instructions for the major appliances & lots of literature on the area. The barbeque was appreciated. Shallow Lake is a small village with few fences, friendly people and little noise. The quiet was quite noticeable at first but not hard to get used to. It was easy to communicate with Bettie & she made sure we were informed & comfortable. Access was no problem. Having never been to the area before, the location was good for visiting many different sites and hiking some sections of the major trails. Our week at this property was just what we needed at this time. Thank you. We would like to stay at the Creekside Cottage again.
So many thoughtful touches, including a bottle of wine and chocolates to help celebrate our 25th anniversary. Comfy beds and the view from the kitchen to the creek made dinner prep a treat.
Thanks Bettie.
Late August visit and loved that the cottage is located between Owen Sound and Sauble. It is so quiet and peaceful and a short drive to the beach. Made it easy to compartmentalize activities. Sleep like a dream as it was so quiet. Cottage is impeccably clean and has everything you need to relax. Thanks Bettie and Rob.
Our second time at this comfortable and worry free home where you can truly relax. Very well equipped and feels like home. Visited Spirit Rock and Bruce's Caves just a short drive away. We had a lovely time.
A great mix of modern convenience and vintage character!
The perfect location and great modern conveniences fully decked out with modern appliances and a fully-equipped kitchen. Are Hostess Betty was very organized and they're readily available for communications or questions and it was very accommodating. The house was very clean and yes the rooms are a little small but it's no issue when there are so many things to do near the cottage. There was a clean BBQ and the creek in the backyard was an added bonus for both a morning coffee or an afternoon play time with the kids. You're only minutes from Sauble Beach and Owen Sound and about 1 hour from Tobermory. A great little spot and would not hesitate to book again.
Our experience with this property and the owner was excellent.
The house was very clean and nicely appointed. It’s within driving distance to many attractions. I think this house would make a great getaway no matter the season as it is close to beaches, walking trails, ski trails, and shopping.
Finally, our interaction with the owner was very good. She was organized, kind, and helpful.
My husband and I would love to visit this property again.

About the host
Hosted by Bettie VanGils Kloet
I (Bettie) am originally from this area and my husband Rob and I are really happy to be back in the beautiful vacation area of Grey Highlands. We love to cross country ski, which is why we chose this location only two minutes from Sawmill- one of the best groomed cross country ski tracks in Ontario! We own and host several short term furnished rentals in Hamilton area as well, and love the experience of interacting with our guests through the booking process. We have three adult children and one cat. We also love to bicycle, and we love cycling the roads in this area.
Why they chose this property
We chose this house because of the property. The creek is so peaceful, and sitting by the fire at night listening to the little rapids settles the soul like nothing else. We fell in love with the yellow Shallow Lake brick as well. The community of Shallow Lake is super friendly, and the general store owner Leanne keeps the store stocked with all those essentials you may have forgotten.
What makes this property unique
The shady trees, the peaceful stream, the birds, and the light movement through the house all provide interest. The proximity to Sauble Beach allows you to enjoy a busy day at the beach but then offers a quiet and shady place to relax in a beautiful home. The two minute drive to Sawmill Nordic Center means you can enjoy skiing several times a day!
