Welcome to Forest Lane Cottage!
** PLEASE NOTE - I no longer have access to a laundry service that is able to take care of providing clean towels and linens. Please understand that I would like to provide this service, but I am unable to. Thus, you’ll need to plan on bringing your own. I do apologize for this.
This 3 bedroom cottage began renting in early 2018! Please note that the nightly rate is not based upon how many people stay. Some other properties charge up to $20 more per night per person over 2 guests. I want larger groups to be able to enjoy this location without worrying about paying for additional people who stay!
Please note, I want to make sure people know this is a rustic rural farmhouse. It was built in 1953 and shows its age a bit! There is a door or two that doesn’t close perfectly. The house is in a very wooded area with many trees and is partially shaded. Thus the roof will have some leaves on it and the gutters won’t be perfectly clean. As I listed in the paragraph above - the nightly rate for a cottage that sleeps 9-10 guests for my nightly rate is a bargain. The basement is partially finished so please don’t expect luxury. The pool table is functional but the basement that it’s in is by no means meant as a living space. The bunk beds have metal frames and the flooring in about half the house is not genuine hardwood!
I have tried the best I can to describe this rural farmhouse as not to induce any unrealistic expectations. If you’re looking for 5-star hotel accommodations - you won’t find that here. However, you won’t be paying for 5-star accommodations either.
I have had some recent complaints regarding a few items so please read the following info prior to booking. Your booking this cabin acknowledges that you have read and understand the information contained in this ad.
This RUSTIC cottage is located in a wooded and grassy area. There are bugs and there are spiders and there are other furry critters in the area. The cabin is typically cleaned on a Monday after folks check out. The cleaning service has an hour round trip travel time, so it is likely it won’t be “freshened up” immediately prior to your arrival if you come later in the week. Please expect there to be a sign of activity of these bugs and spiders and other pests in this natural wooded area.
The lawn service might not always be able to mow or trim weeds directly prior to your arrival. Many factors such as rain, wooded property access, and land topology play into this. This is not a metropolitan or town location. If you are expecting that, understand you might be disappointed and won’t receive a refund.
Sometimes, a window might fail to lock. However, all main entry doors are secure and have locks on them. We have never had a security incident since we began cabin rentals in 2012. I have had many, many very happy customers. Many folks come back to each of my locations each and every season. However, a few have not been happy due to the items listed above. Please be sure you understand the above information before choosing to stay here.
The hot tub is on and working! It’s located just off the front porch within feet of the entry door! There is also a pool table in the basement, along with a table and bar stools.
The cottage is located directly between Old Man's Cave and Ash Cave, about 5 miles from each cave.
The property can sleep 9-10 guests, and possibly more if you bring air mattresses.
Pets are welcome. Free DIRECTV in two rooms is included as well as free Wi-Fi.
Jimbo's Bar and Grill is located within walking distance, where you can enjoy live music on the weekends. Jimbo's is well-known for great burgers, sandwiches, a great beer and wine selection, and many large screen TV's!
Get out today to the Hocking Hills!
PLEASE NOTE - this property is located in a rural setting with open grassy areas and woods nearby. We do our best to keep pesky rodents away but at times there could be a rodent that was just caught in a trap. We have tried poison, traps, and using nothing at all; we have landed on continuing to use mousetraps. Poison causes them to die in the most inopportune places and having no traps at all just leads to larger issues. If you happen to find a mouse in a trap we apologize - we truly are doing the best to can to make the pests disappear. Just please be prepared to place all food in sealable containers or in the refrigerator so you don’t attract them even more!
In addition to small furry pests, an occasional wood roach might be wandering around a cabin. I assure you these are NOT a cock roach. Please google “wood roach”. They feed on moist damp wood. They don’t really want to be inside but they might have been carried in on firewood or wandered in looking for a mate. They don’t eat human food and they don’t want to be inside. If you find one, please either dispose of it or simply throw it outside.
And finally, this cottage backs up against a LARGE, STEEP hill and rainwater runs off this hill directly toward the house. That rainwater often seeps through the basement concrete walls and sometimes collects in small areas on the basement floor. We do our best to make sure it is mopped but sometimes it occurs the day of your arrival. Please be patient and understand that this is sometimes unavoidable and you might need to mop/squeegee some rainwater.
Thanks for your patience as you venture in to the rural wooded areas of Hocking Hills!

Thanks for your kind review.
The house actually does have a large yard area behind the lane that’s in the back of the house!
I am sorry you didn’t contact me about this so I could let you know.
Thanks and I am glad you enjoyed your stay!
Great cabin, awesome location. No Verizon cell service FYI.
It is not the Hilton or the ritz but it was clean and it had everything we needed for a rustic hiking type of vacation. Hot tub was lovely after long days. Thank you!
Great communication from property owner. It was the perfect size for our family. The area is so quiet and serene, which we loved. Certainly, it could use updates, but the price is right compared to others in the area. We have already recommended the place to friends and we will be back!!

Thanks so much for the feedback and we are glad you enjoyed your stay!
I appreciate the understanding that there are aspects of the cottage that could use a little updating - but that the price is much, much less per night that any other similar location in the area. This cottage sleeps up to 11 people and I don’t charge more for extra guests; other cabins typically charge for more than 4 folks. With 11 people, that could add up to over $100 more dollars PER NIGHT!
Thanks again and we’d love to have you back!
Our host was great and communicating with us. He was upfront about age of cottage and some of its issues. WIFI wasn’t working but project manager came and tried to fix and then owner came and got it working. Great location, nice hot tub and pool table.
Excellent location near Hocking Hills and attractions. Only negatives for my group was patio could have been power washed to knock down webs and cut down on spiders and the inside smelled damp. Could use a dehumidifier and air freshener. The cottage is quaint though a bit outdated but is very private and peaceful.
The house was perfect. We don’t need nothing fancy or expensive because we are gone all day at all the caves and trails each day. So this was a perfect house for me and my 5 people to stay. The hot tub and pool table kept everyone entertained after walking trails all day. Very comfortable. I would stay here again and again. I definitely recommend it
Arrive during the day! We arrived during the night and we missed this spot several times due to it having a hidden driveway. Outdated but was good for what we needed. Kids loved the hot tub and we loved the firepit! Daniel was very kind and helpful and gave good recommendations on places around the area to explore! Great location to all the caves and waterfalls! Logan is just 20 minutes away for the beach and restaurants! Will stay again next time we visit!
We had a great time. Everything was just as described. The kids loved the hot tub and roasting s’mores by the fire. Restaurant and gas station were both close enough to walk to but not too close. Gas station actually had a big selection of items to choose from. We were a little concerned about how close we were to the road at first but it really wasn’t a concern at all. Overall a nice place to stay
This is a great place to come if you want a place to wind down after enjoying the natural beauty Hocking Hills State Park. The family room couch is super comfy, and the pool table in the cellar was fun too. The hot tub was awesome as well. Be prepared to bring water to drink, because the tap water isn't really suitable for drinking. All in all, it was just what we needed.

Thanks for the great review! The pool table and hot tub are always a hit!
The water is natural well water that’s clean and fresh - I do understand that some folks sometimes don’t like well water. However, it is certainly suitable to drink.
Please come back and join us!
We did have an issue with the dishwasher and the plumbing was a bit slow due to (historical) feminine products being flushed. This renter was very understanding and patient while they were resolved.
This property worked for us perfectly. We actually spent most of our time outside on the front porch. It was large enough and had plenty of seating. The living space was very spacious. Again with lots of seating. Everyone slept well so I can honestly say beds felt good at days end. The only negative thing I can report is that it is close to a some what busy road ( speed limit is 55mph). But the property is great!
it need some tlc it needs blinds on the bedroom and bathroom window. it needs some u pans and the pool sticks need tips put on and there is only 2 darts for the dart board it can use some deep cleaning and the bunk beds can use some tighting up . but great location and the bar next door closes by 10pm so it quite. needs a address plate kind of hard to fine .
We stayed at this property from July 5th-8th. Location to old man’s cave, ash cave and other hiking trails was perfect. Was a little worried at first because it is located on a very busy highway but it never really was a problem.. Overall a good time, we never used the pool table in the basement, very damp with some water on floor. Probably caused by all the rain. Only other issue was the coffee pot was cracked so we couldn’t use, after looking around we found an extra pot so we were able to have our coffee. We hade a nice relaxing couple days!
The place was nice and big. It was also located close to hocking. The only issue we had was that two of the bedrooms only had bunk beds which the adults that had to use them were not very comfortable. The kids that used the bunk beds didn’t seem to have the same opinion. It is an older home with visible wear but we didn’t have any problems with it. The kitchen was not stocked with everything you need or are use to using but did have enough to accomplish what you need for most meal preparation.
Beautiful area to visit. Hot tub is a nice plus and the pool table was a perk we all enjoyed. The grill was good and an extra tank was nearby which was appreciated. Tools were there for grilling which was appreciated. Nothing super fancy here but it is a nice place to stay. The bar Jimbos (food and drink) is a short walk away and is a very nice surprise to be honest. Covid 19 makes it hard on a group of 6. We had to bring blankets, sheets and towels for 6. We had to drive 2 vehicles to get there and bring all our stuff. Not his fault but if you are a large group you need to bring a bunch of items to make it work.

Thanks Mike for the great review.
I am glad you enjoyed the hot tub and pool table, as well as Jimbo’s next door! Jimbo’s is an awesome place and close enough to walk if needed!
I do apologize for the Covid-19 causing folks the need to brings sheets and towels.
Thanks and I hope you can come again!
The Keypad lock was very difficult to open. The Downstairs Bedroom window did not lock. Upstairs did not have air conditioning, and only one window had a screen so we could open a window. Accommodations are for 11 people, but table in kitchen only sat 4 people. The prior reviews, however, were all pretty accurate. It was too hot out during our stay to use the hot tub. Porch area was dirty, cigarettes in ashtray, and we also had to scrub down the picnic table to use it. The experience was a little underwhelming.

Thanks for your candid review.
The kitchen table only seats 4 people. That’s what is shown in the images of the ad. There is also an outdoor patio table with 4 chairs in an image shown in the ad, and a plastic picnic table that seats at least 6. The plastic picnic table sits outside and does have some leaves that fall on it so I apologize it got a bit dirty. I am not sure why you thought the kitchen table would have seated more than what was shown in the ad image?
The downstairs bedroom window does indeed lock. It has the fingers to not allow it to open any more than about an inch and the fingers are extended. I assure you, no one can open the window with the locking fingers extended.
The house has central air conditioning and the ductwork extends to the upstairs bedroom. We will take a look at the duct and make sure it’s got good flow. Thanks and I hope you enjoyed the scenic location this cottage had to offer.
