Aberdovey (Aberdyfi) is one of those places people return to year after year, with its laid-back charm, beautiful sandy beach and stunning estuary views. Days here can be as relaxed or active as you like, try your hand at crabbing off the jetty (bait is easily found in the village), or join in the local tradition and take a leap into the sea. The long, sandy beach stretches for miles, perfect for picnics, barbecues or even a scenic walk to nearby Tywyn, with the option of hopping on the train back.

The village itself is full of character, with independent shops, cafés and welcoming pubs. Enjoy an ice cream from a much-loved famous parlour or sip a drink on the balcony at the local Inn as boats drift by. For a cosy afternoon, the Literary Institute offers sea views, books and a peaceful spot to unwind. Dining out is a treat too, with relaxed meals by the water.

For those wanting to explore further, there’s plenty to discover nearby. The Talyllyn Heritage Steam Railway in Tywyn is a hit with families and railway enthusiasts alike, while Dolgoch Falls offers a rewarding walk-through beautiful woodland. The Corris Craft Centre is another great day out, with hands-on activities, a gin distillery and the magical King Arthur’s Labyrinth. Golfers will love the famous Aberdovey Links course, while the recreation ground and nearby parks offer everything from tennis and putting to bowls and croquet.

A little further afield, you can visit the charming market town of Machynlleth for independent shops and great food, explore Barmouth via a scenic water taxi crossing, or take the train to Harlech to discover its impressive castle. Wildlife lovers are also well catered for, with opportunities to spot ospreys, red kites and a variety of coastal birds nearby.

Whether it’s beach days, scenic walks, local traditions or simply soaking up the view, Aberdovey offers a truly memorable seaside escape for all ages.
