About this property

Stunning restored granite cottage in centre of Newcastle close to beaches etc

A superb authentic granite cottage lovingly restored with every modern convenience right in the middle of Newcastle and literally a few steps away from the main street and the promenade. The world class Royal County Down golf course is only a 5 min walk away in one direction and Donard park is 5 mins in the other direction

The rooms within the cottage are bright and spacious. Its fully equipped with everything you would need for a relaxing luxurious stay

The space
It is unusual to find original solid granite properties in the centre of town and this property which dates back to 1921 is an exquisite example of the genre. During modernisation the granite walls were restored to their original condition both outside and also inside which gives the cottage a unique sense of quality and heritage. This type of construction is largely extinct today as the skills to undertake this quality and style are sadly lost. Granite is one of the hardest and heaviest materials used in construction anywhere in the world.

The detailing of hand carved granite quoins to the front walls and around windows etc. are a perfect example of the stonemason’s craft which are fast becoming lost.

Guests will also notice the lead detailing to the roofs which is another example of quality craftsmanship which are becoming less common. The dormers feature mini rose sculptures in lead reflecting the original cottage name of Roselea. The year of original construction 1921 and also the year of its restoration 2024 are also created in lead on the dormers.

The now fully restored cottage however benefits from the latest standards of energy conservation throughout which makes the cottage really cosy and easy to heat. Tall ceilings enhance the spacious feel internally which helps make the rooms bright and airy.

Once inside guests will appreciate the vaulted ceiling entrance hall with the oak detailed balcony above framed by the restored granite internal walls which creates a genuinely unique feel within the heart of the cottage.

The rooms within the cottage are bright and spacious. The living room is equipped with modern gas stove which creates a cosy feel while remaining clean and safe to use. The kitchen is separated from the living room by glazed french style doors which allow for a more open style of living if required.

The cottage is in one of the quietest areas of the town and the location is ideal whether you are golfing in royal County Down, trekking the Mournes, or simply enjoying the wonderful sandy beaches of Murlough Bay all of which are only a few minutes walk away.

Facilities

The cottage has a large Living Room equipped with large modern TV and enabled with hi-speed WiFi and streaming services. There are double french doors which open into the kitchen which allows the entirety of the living Room and Kitchen to be utilised together.

The kitchen is fully equipped with oven, hob, fridge/freezer, microwave and also has a large oak traditional style freestanding larder with plenty of space for food, dishes etc. There is a large dark wooden table with chairs and bench seating.

There is a separate full-size utility room equipped with modern state of the art washing machine and heat pump drier with plenty of space for cleaning and laundry.

The cottage has four large bedrooms, one on the ground floor which is easily accessible, there are three further bedrooms upstairs one of which is en suite with shower, toilet and basin.

All of the bedrooms are furnished with real wood bed frames and comfortable bedding which is complemented by quality wooden , drawers etc.

There is a large fully equipped shower suite on the ground floor which is accessible, and a family bathroom on the first floor equipped with traditional bath but also fitted with electrical shower over for convenience, perfect for children.

The cobbled area to the front provides for on-site parking for 2 cars exclusively for the cottage and the real granite framed garden to the front provides a rest/play area within the original granite garden walls. There is a large cobbled open space to the side accessible from the kitchen which enjoys an open aspect and is perfect for just chilling in the sun. There ia a retractable privacy screen which can be used to improve the use of the side patio from the road. The cottage also exclusively enjoys a paved patio to the rear which is equipped with table and chairs and is a very private space for eating/socialising or just topping up the tan.

The cottage has an adjacent but separate rental facility on the same site which has entirely independent access and separate garden and patio external facilities also. This may be occupied separately during your stay at Roselea Cottage.
