About this property
A thatched half-timbered house from 1785
Welcome to Tobaksladen—a living piece of Danish history dating back to 1785. This beautiful farmhouse is part of the iconic Twin Houses along the Marguerite Route and has been carefully restored with deep respect for the original craftsmanship. It was right here in these rolling landscapes that Adam Oehlenschläger was inspired in 1819 to write the Danish national anthem, and when you stand here between the broad beech trees and the salty beach, the words come naturally. As a unique touch, you can explore the property’s very own small museum during your stay: the historic tobacco barn from World War II, located just across the road.
Inside, historic charm blends with modern luxury and international design. The ground floor features an elegant black kitchen with brass countertops and a bright living area, where the wood-burning stove and Sonos system set the mood. Here you’ll also find three spacious bedrooms and the house’s “Trust Bar” with a wine cooler—grab a bottle and settle the bill upon departure. On the first floor, you can relax on the large Eilersen sofa, put a vinyl record on the turntable, or get a good night’s sleep in the luxurious Hästens bed beneath the large skylights.
Outdoor living is best enjoyed on the large, west-facing terrace with a covered veranda. Here you have a direct view of Langeland’s unique “hat hills,” which rise like geological phenomena in the backyard. The garden is a sunny oasis of tranquility, where wild game, owls, and eagles often stop by, and on hot summer days you can rinse off the saltwater under the refreshing outdoor shower. It’s the perfect spot to watch the sunset over the rolling landscape with a glass of chilled wine in hand.
The area is brimming with a southern island vibe and natural gems. Just 2 km from here, you’ll find the beach at Oehlenschläger Bøg, and only 3 km to the north lies Tranekær with its fairytale castle and medicinal gardens. Whether you’re into the cozy harbor life in Lohals, shopping in Rudk øbing, or an expedition to see the wild horses on South Langeland, everything is within easy reach. Be sure to stop by the bakery in Tullebølle while you’re refueling—it’s hard not to fall in love with Langeland and want to come back again and again.
