Located in Våer in the municipality of Tinn, this house was built in 1907 and designed by architect Thorvald Astrup as Norsk Hydro’s first executive residence. You’ll be staying in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, within walking distance of Vemork, with views of the factory on one side and the Vestfjord Valley on the other.
Original details and period-appropriate interiors have been well preserved over more than a century, and the house combines this historic character with modern comforts. This makes for a stay that works well no matter the season, whether you’re coming for summer mountain hikes and fishing lakes or for winter cross-country and downhill ski trails.
The Vemork Power Station is within walking distance. It was the world’s largest power plant when it opened in 1911 and became world-famous during World War II for the sabotage operations against German heavy water production. Today, it houses the Norwegian Industrial Workers’ Museum.
The Saboteur Trail begins at Rjukan Mountain Lodge—an 8-km hike through the terrain the saboteurs crossed on the night of February 28, 1943. The area is a short distance from Hardangervidda, Møsvann, and Gaustatoppen, and downtown Rjukan, with its shops and restaurants, is just a short drive away.
