The village is also famous for its 15th-century castle, which was home to Katherine Parr before she married Henry VIII. In historic Bedale (3 miles), the cobbled streets lead to some charming independent shops, and there are pubs and eateries to suit all tastes. Little ones will love The Big Sheep & Little Cow, a family-friendly farm attraction. For more shopping and dining, head to Thirsk (14 miles) or Richmond (16 miles). At Thorp Perrow (2.5 miles), there’s a renowned arboretum as well as a bird of prey centre. The Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors are both within 20 miles.


This impressive getaway was redecorated throughout in early 2026 for comfort, style, and practicality. From the entrance hall, head into the spacious, light-filled lounge, which has a selection of soft seating where you can cosy up after a tiring day outdoors. In the corner, a gas fire within a stone surround adds a warming glow on a cool evening, and there’s a Smart TV for setting up a family movie night or streaming a must-see box set. This room connects to the kitchen/diner, where a traditionally styled table and chairs take pride of place for celebratory feasts together. You’ll be delighted with the choice of appliances, which include a microwave and a dishwasher for speed and convenience. Doors from the kitchen open to the conservatory, a delightful spot in which to hang out and enjoy tranquil views over the verdant garden towards pastureland. There’s a king-size bedroom on the ground floor, boasting an en-suite shower room and a dressing area, and alongside a separate shower room with a WC. The remaining bedrooms are all on the first floor. The versatile super-king-size room has zip-and-link beds to create a twin if requested in advance, and is complemented by a double and a single bedroom. All three have use of an elegant family bathroom on this level, which has Jack-and-Jill-style access to the double bedroom.


From the conservatory, steps lead down to the large back garden, which has a stream running through it with a footbridge crossing it. With so much space to run and play, children and pets will love this outdoor area, though do keep an eye on them near the stream. If you feel like grilling a delicious treat to savour in the fresh air, buy some local produce on your travels and make the most of the BBQ provided. As a bonus, a sweeping driveway at the front of the property offers off-street parking for up to three cars.
