About this property

1 Bed in Stour Provost (oc-t39057)

This charming cottage, set over two levels, is ideal for couples or solo travellers seeking a superb setting for a peaceful rural escape in Dorset. There is one other property on this lovely riverside location, set within the quiet village of Stour Provost in the heart of the scenic Blackmore Vale. There are plenty of local attractions to suit all tastes, including the quintessential Dorset towns of Shaftesbury and Sherborne, both within 12 miles. Shaftesbury is a hilltop town with cobbled streets, quaint shops, and panoramic views from Gold Hill, while Sherborne is a historic gem known for its ‘honey-biscuit’ stone architecture. Spend a day discovering the medieval Sherborne Abbey, and Sherborne Castle and Gardens. Alternatively, if you prefer tranquil landscapes, then Cranbourne Chase, 10 miles away, is a must-visit. Here, you can walk and cycle through ancient woodlands and across sweeping downlands.

This gorgeous property will impress you from the moment you step inside. Many of the mill's original features have been sympathetically incorporated into the clever design and layout of this splendid cottage. The well-chosen décor and furnishings blend effortlessly with the mill features. Whichever window you look out of, you are greeted with open countryside or river views. Cross the gravel and step up through the door to enter directly into the open-plan kitchen/dining room, with the kitchen area on your left and the dining area on your right. There is a striking high ceiling with exposed wooden beams and exposed stone work, creating a truly unique setting for your stay. All your favourite creature comforts are on hand, including a contemporary kitchen, which features all the appliances you need to cook up a storm. There is one step down from the kitchen/diner into the impressive living room, where you can admire the old mill structure and workings (please note, the mill wheel is behind the property and not accessible). Relax on the comfortable seating after a day exploring the Dorset countryside and spend the evening watching a movie together on the TV. The stairs from the lounge area lead you to the first floor, where you will find a delightful double bedroom with a high, vaulted ceiling and a chic shower room.

Relax overlooking waterside views, with the wildlife on the river, the guinea fowl enjoying their open habitat and you may even have a rare sighting of Kingfisher. There is private parking for two cars.
