About this property

Year-Round Adirondack Chalet on Paradox Lake Inlet, Constructed in 2004

Total Solar Eclipse - April 8, 2024

Celebrate the total eclipse of the sun the week of April 6-13 with family and friends in the forest primeval of the Adirondack mountains. Steinmetz Lodge is in the path of totality for this, every 400 years, celestial event with full totality scheduled to start at 3:25 pm on Monday April 8, 2024. In the days before and after, enjoy exploring the surrounding snow covered Adirondack high peaks and nearby Lake Placid and Saratoga Springs. Typically the high peaks are still covered by a couple feet of snow pack and the downhill ski areas of Gore Mountain and Whiteface Mountain offer spring skiing until mid April.

Great location only 2 miles from Northway/Rt 87. Steinmetz Lodge is a year-round Adirondack chalet located on Paradox Lake inlet. This year-round vacation home of 2300 square feet, constructed in 2004, is ideal for families with kids. The property has its own private waterfront and boat dock on the inlet, 150 yards from the lake, and access to a quiet, sandy, community beach for sunbathing/swimming. The Lodge has a fully-equipped kitchen and large family room on the main floor with a cathedral ceiling, Adirondack beams, gas stove/fireplace, and two sliding glass doors to a wraparound deck overlooking the waterfront. On the main floor there are two bedrooms (queen-size beds) and two bathrooms with showers and a third bedroom (queen-size bed) in the upstairs loft. Downstairs, there is a fourth bedroom (queen-size bed, a large sitting room area, pool table, card/game table, a rustic Adirondack pine-top bar and refrigerator, a gas stove/fireplace, a trundle or day-bed sofa (sleeps 2 persons), and a laundry room with a washer/dryer and bathroom with shower. A sliding door opens to the ground level for easy access to the large boat dock and fire pit sitting area. Paradox Lake is ideal for boating, sailing, waterskiing, swimming, and bird watching—there’s a pair of nesting bald eagles, loons, and herons. The fishing is excellent, with bass, trout, and northern pike. You can play tennis on the public courts at the nearby Town of Schroon Lake and golf at the Schroon Lake Municipal Golf Course and Ticonderoga Country Club. Terrific hikes of varying lengths and difficulty, from Severance Hill in Schroon Lake, 5 minutes from the Lodge, to the nearby Pharaoh Wilderness with numerous trails and remote ponds and scenic mountains. The High Peaks area is along the spectacular 50-minute drive north through Keene Valley to Lake Placid. Artsy Saranac Lake, with its excellent restaurants, is west of Placid. Hiking guides are available in the Lodge. Fall is a wonderful time to hike and enjoy the glorious color changes. In the winter, go ice fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Downhill skiing at Gore Mtn. is a 35-minute drive and Whiteface is 45 minutes. The Lodge is close to many popular attractions, including Fort Ticonderoga, Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Lake George, and Saratoga. In the winter, be sure to check dates for the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival. In Schroon Lake, there are several restaurants and a coffee shop, as well as many shops catering to visitors, and the Paradox Brewery, which is opening a new site just north of the Lodge on Route 9.

A Tesla 240 volt, 40 amp, charging outlet was recently installed on the exterior of the Lodge.

Boating: You can bring your own power boat; the dock can accommodate most sizes. There’s a public boat launch on the lake. A canoe, paddles, and lifejackets are provided; a pair of kayaks with paddles may be rented from the Lodge. Boat rentals are available at the Schroon Lake Marina.

Our summer season rental rate from Memorial Day to Labor Day is $2700 for a weekly, seven nights minimum stay. Our off-season rate in the fall, winter, and spring is $385.72 per night for a minimum three-night stay ($1157) and a seven nights discounted weekly rate of $2025. The rate for Christmas, New Year's and President's stay of seven nights is $2700, with a minimum stay of three nights ($385.72 per night).

Guys weekend ice fishing
This was exactly what we needed, and all I can say is that everything exceeded our expectations. The communication with Larry was excellent prior to and following our stay. The house was clean and tidy, plenty of separate sleeping rooms, and the basement was the perfect hang out spot to play cards, pool, and fix a drink or two! We were also perfectly positioned to head out on the ice and fish on Paradox. We all had a blast and are already planning our return visits. Thank you again so much for sharing your Steinmetz Lodge with us!

Nice family resort
Despite 3 days of rain, we really enjoyed our stay at this welcoming chalet. The house was clean and well equipped. The game room was entertaining during the bad weather. The fishing was great and the lake is beautiful.
