A great stay in the wilderness.
Our family of four + dog had a great stay at the cabin and it was great to have the family bonding time without all the coronavirus distractions. We took some hikes around the mountain and up to the waterfalls at the end of West Buffalo Rd (which was an adventure, even our Subaru Outback could only go so far), nice drives around the area, and some attempted fishing in Lake Santeelah. The cabin is well stocked with everything you need for home cooked meals, the bedrooms are comfortable and have plenty of pillows and blankets to keep everyone cosy. Brad and Ginger were very responsive and even brought some cookies and kids movies out for the girls.
I couple of things we wish we would have known:
The driveway is paved, but not all the way to the cabin, which is gravel. From the photo we thought there would be a flat paved area for the kids to ride bikes on, but the photo is of the beginning of the driveway. So we brought bikes we couldn't use. The firepit and grill are basically just at the end of the gravel driveway next to a mud pit that looked under construction. So not an ideal area there. A higher quality grill (like a green egg) would be a nice addition for those who like to do more involved cooking.
WIFI is adequate for emails and such but too slow for some of my wife's work applications. We could use Facetime Audio for phone calls. This was mentioned by Brad when we booked.
Overall a wonderful time, thanks!
Thank you for the detailed review and we are so glad you were able to decompressed and make some great family memories. Yes, at the far end of the parking area, away from the cabin I have started some dirt work for a small shed that will allow covered parking for motorcycles. Of coure it has rained and rained (10 inches over normal) but now it has dried up and it will be finished this summer. Sorry the grill is a Char Griller and not an Egg (?) Thanks, Brad
Great Place to Unwind!
Fantastic stay at a great place. Friendly, welcoming property owners. There's a stream/creek right out front so close you can leave a window cracked and be serenaded by the the sound of flowing water; no noise machine needed...it's the real deal! Thanks for a wonderful stay!
We absolutely loved spending a relaxing, peaceful weekend in this beautiful cabin. The location is amazing, far from any noise or distractions. We enjoyed hiking, cooking and the hot tub. The cabin is well equipped with everything you might need, it is spacious and comfortable.
Thank you for everything!
Thank you for being such great guests and the terrific review, please do come back, Brad
Remote mountain resort has everything you need for memorable stay.
Excellent getaway! Great hosts!
A True Mountain Experience
Wanted a place to spend with our very active children and their spouses in an outdoorsy environment. We found it. The cabin was awesome and the mountains where it was located was beautiful. Quiet and remote. Great for walks with the fishing poles and an active dog. Campfire talks and soaking in the hot tub where thoroughly enjoyed. Very roomy in the cabin and it had everything we needed. It was a great spot to meet up with our kids from Kauai and Charlotte. The leaves on the trees were the perfect fall colors. Hiked and fished in Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest. It was beautiful there. We drove from Cincinnati and my husband really enjoyed driving all the switchbacks on The Dragon Trail on Route 129 between Tennessee and N.Carolina. Hope to go back someday in the future. The owners were great and detail oriented. There were even cookies in the cookie jar!
This log cabin is located about 14 miles due West of Robbinsville, NC in an unspoiled and unpopulated area with lush forests, tall mountains and fast flowing mountain streams. The setting is so special that it will probably redefine the the terms 'private and remote'. This is a no stress environment offering a scenic feast for the eyes, clean air and water and the natural background sound of a bold mountain stream cascading over large boulders. The immediate area offers trout fishing, hiking or strolling, extreme mountain biking, hunting, ATV riding and nature walks or just rest! A short drive away, you will find boating on Lakes Santeetlah and Fontana, scenic driving or motorcycling on the Cherohala Skyway and The Tail of the Dragon. Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Joyce Kilmer/Slickrock and Big Snowbird Wilderness Area. Cherokee and Harrah's Casino. Smoky Mountain Scenic Railroad. Stecoah Valley Center, whitewater rafting, fine dining and local art and craft studios
