NOTE Re: ATV's: Ohio City is a "No ATV's Through Town" area. Please trailer your ATV's to approved off-road areas. We want to honor all residents by maintaining a "quiet mountain setting".

Two story, 1,278 sf cabin with partial-use detached garage, horse corral* (corral to be completed, hopefully, end of Sept. '18) with adjoining corral shed / tack room. Situated 8,595 feet above sea level, this "Island in the Sky" has beautiful views up & down Quartz Creek Valley, surrounded by Aspen groves, nearby Quartz Creek, and stunning vistas of 'above timberline peaks'. This truly is 'Rocky Mountain High'!

There is a large covered deck that spans the entire width of the front of the house, facing east (with large log swing & dbl log seat w/ console - see pics). Both the sunrises and sunsets are fully experienced from the way this cabin is situated on the property, in the middle of Quartz Creek Valley.

Please refer to the photo gallery for a greater appreciation of this quaint, rustic, very homey property. As you can see, a picture/pictures are worth a thousand words . . .

We had a wonderful time! Cabin was clean and stocked with about everything you might need for your stay! The kids enjoyed the available games. Ohio City is a nice quiet town, but Pitkin and Gunnison are not too far away for trail riding or day trips.

Our family of 6 really enjoyed the cabin. The bunk room was a fun spot for our four kids. We enjoyed the porch with all the seats. We brought our side by side to ride trails so we had to trailer to Pitkin everyday. It was a short 12 min drive. The cabin was stacked with everything we needed. Would definitely stay again!!!

Great Location

We loved staying at your house. The house was beautiful and had everything we needed. The location is great if you like to take your ATV on the trails around Pitkin, which is what we did. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and hope to visit again.

Clean, Cozy, and Comfortable Cabin

Cabin is as advertised. Great location, clean, plenty of parking, and enough room for six adults, food, and gear. Beds were comfortable and the bunkbeds were larger than expected. Plenty of hot water and the entire cabin stayed warm even on cold evenings. Communication with the host was easy, check in and check out were straightforward, and we never experienced any issues. Would recommend, as this is a nice cabin for a Colorado mountain getaway.

Wonderful cabin!

Perfect location for exploring the forest. We really enjoyed the quiet and access to Jeep trails (even though we got stuck approaching Tincup Pass!), and sitting on the front porch drinking coffee and watching the hummingbirds was pretty cool, too. Close enough to Gunnision for supplies but far enough away to feel like the rest of the world doesn't exist.

A wonderful cabin rental experience

We really enjoyed the Island in The Sky! The cabin had lots of extras, like a very well equipped kitchen with lots of spices, lotion and Q-Tips in the bathroom, plenty of towels, laundry detergent and dish soap, etc. It was very clean and homey! We loved the views and front porch swing and chairs, and the half garage was a great bonus. Would definitely recommend and will plan to return.

Elk Shed Hunting

Scott & Kim, Really enjoyed our stay at your cabin! We had 5 adults, plenty of room. Would like to have met you, I might suggest a couple of things we ran across, the kitchen faucet swivel seals leak, sprayed water on the window, we wrapped a cup towel around it to prevent that, the smoke detector battery in the bedroom beeping, took it down and set it outside for the night, and the vanity faucet in the downstairs bath, screen must be partially plugged water sprays outside sink. But we had a GREAT Time. Thanks Again! David

Beautiful Setting

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Island in the Sky. The drive to the property was so pretty and only a short 24 minutes from Gunnison. We loved sitting on the porch and watching for wildlife and listening to the coyotes howl. The hummingbirds let us know how upset they were that their feeders were empty. My granddaughter loved reading all the children's books. The bunk beds were full size and larger than expected for bunks. That room also had its own bath making it a great spot for my daughter and her family to have their own space. The only thing I would say as a negative is that I expected shampoo, conditioner and bodywash so I didn't pack that and it wasn't provided. But, that was not a big deal. I just wish I had known ahead of time so I could have planned for that. Oh, and we couldn't find a cheese grater. But, otherwise the house was well stocked and very comfortable. We were in the area for my other daughter's wedding celebration. The host was so generous and accommodating allowing space for the two families to get to know each other in this great space. I am so grateful and would definitely recommend this home for your next visit to the area.

About the host

My wife (Kim) & I have been married since 1972 & have been coming to Ohio City (from Santa Cruz, CA) since 1976, initially for hunting. It has since turned into a family retreat/reunion area and our families descend every-other year (around the 4th of July) on this small piece of paradise to celebrate our lives together (there are four other cabins nearby that have become an integral part of this experience). It has become a family tradition and the "best vacation ever", providing memories for multiple generations for years to come.

Why they chose this property

In 2017 this property became available and we didn't hesitate to buy it to become semi-permanent members of this wonderful "mountain high" community.

What makes this property unique

For the last year, Kim & I have spent countless hours setting it up & furnishing it to make it a very comfortable retreat for our growing family (4 children & 15 grandchildren) and for those who would like to experience what we have over the last forty-two years . . .
