Well put together interior and great views and wildlife walking by. I would definitely recommend 4 wheel drive as the last 2 miles are quite rocky, but well worth it. The host was helpful and accommodating!
Loved all the space, it was very comfortable. Enjoyed sitting out on the deck watching the hummingbirds and looking at the scenery and stars. Definitely a secluded getaway. Be prepared, the last couple miles of the road in is rough and need higher clearance vehicle 4WD or AWD. Reiner made sure we had a great stay and gave us some suggestions of things to see.
We really enjoyed our stay. The views were amazing from living room deck and patio. The communication was spot on and super helpful. I would and will recommend this property to others. If we are ever back in the area that’s where we would like to stay. Views in the morning and at night, we already miss them. Thank you for letting us stay at your home!
Beautiful remote location where a very accommodating host shares this magnificent home with wildlife, hummingbirds, peace and quiet. We used the week elk hunting nearby with my son having his first harvest. Strongly suggest an AWD or 4x4 as last 2 miles is rough. We’ll be back!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Reiner's Montrose mountaintop retreat. The road is a bit of a climb, and the last two miles up are rough so come prepared with patience and a high-clearance vehicle. But once you're there -- WOW! Breathtaking views, spectacular star gazing, calm winds, cool temps and a home that meets all of your basic needs (and then some). Highly recommend if you're seeking solitude with a smidge of adventure.
We really enjoyed our stay at Reiner’s house. The view from the porch was spectacular, overlooking rolling hills and the town of Montrose. At night, the whole sky was ablaze with stars, and the sunrises and sunsets were amazing. We loved the solitude and serenity. The house is a bit far from town—and the road is pretty rough in places, but the views are definitely worth it!
Great house. Very secluded location. My only advice would be make sure you drive a vehicle that is high off the ground and be ready for a little offroad. Plan extra time into all trips. Well worth it!
We loved our short getaway weekend! The property and the views were beautiful! The house was simple and had everything we needed to relax. As the owner and others have said I do recommend bringing your own food and anything you want to cook with if you don’t want to drive back to town. We didn’t mind the drive even with it being a little bumpy and most vehicles could make it without a problem as long as you take it slow.
The only improvement or constructive criticism I could give would be to clean/dust the kitchen again right before a guest stays. Being so secluded and around nature the dust and flies/bees get in easily when the doors and windows are opened. Not a huge deal but just one observation. Otherwise everything seemed very clean and felt homey.
It was so peaceful sitting on the deck watching the sunset behind the mountains as the hummingbirds fluttered around! Reiner so welcoming and friendly! Very accommodating! Thank you!!

Solitude at is finest
Love the big room, open deck, amazing views, and general solitude of this place. We wanted to get away from it all, and this place fit this bill. Reiner was extremely friendly and also laid-back, met us in downtown Montrose quite late on a Friday and escorted us up the hill. I'm glad he did since it was very dark and would have been a struggle to find by ourselves. I would have given it a higher score if the fish pond listed as stocked existed, but seems that hasn't been the case. That was a big reason we chose this place. Make sure you bring your own food, and bath soap. The fire pit area was nice, but due to fire restrictions could not use. The gas grill, which in the process of being replaced would not get hot enough to cook food. Those with allergies, be aware that dogs do frequent the place. Place was clean and comfortable.
Heat and water worked great. We enjoyed the walk to the antennas at the top of Waterdog peak, and the gorgeous fall colors. Saw some elk and deer, and just enjoyed getting away.

Very nice place on top of a hill with expansive view. Very clean. Had everything we needed. TV was a hassle to work. Deer in the yard and coyotes serenaded us each evening. Very nice wraparound deck and carport. Now the con. The last mile and a half of the access road was off road quality. We traveled it six times in our Subaru Outback, which is a pretty hardy car with fairly high clearance. On the final trip out the road finally got us and caused an unrepairable puncture in one of the tires. With an AWD car, you can't just replace one tire, so we spent half a day and 800 for new tires, then had to get an alignment when we got home for 136. If you have a vehicle that can handle the road, go for it, it is a nice place once you get there,
We only used the house to stay in during the evening. We bring our own ipad. So cant tell you anything about the entertainment set up. The ceiling fan in the tv room didn’t work. We found a small fan we could use to move air. We had high 90’s the week we were there so was very difficult to cool off for bedtime. Alot of window screens were missing or old that bugs could fly in. We had mosquitoes, flies, & bees/wasps, moths, & multiple other bugs coming inside as we tried to cool off. The master bedroom was missing the sliding door screen. We located a screen that fit but was partially broken they we pried to get it to stay that we might get a breeze. No AC is tough during the summer months. The fireplace was full of ashes, the oven was so nasty like its never been cleaned. We had mice running through the kitchen & tv area. We found a couple places behind the couch that mice were using to get in and out covered in electrical tape but they got under & came through the carpet. That area around the couch smelled like mouse urine & so we didnt use that room. We could hear them at night running around & moving stuff in the kitchen it was startling sometimes. Every morning I had to wipe things down as we found droppings in everything we had out, for example our dog’s food bowl. There is a looong trek of about 8 miles by dirt road. Didnt bother us because we have 4 wheel drive but for cars it is probably not doable. Besides that we loved the sunset & views
We had a fantastic stay at this property. Reiner’s place was perfect for our family and had the most amazing views. The road is rough as others had mentioned how we this was good for us in our Jeeps. Reiner was very accommodating helpful with giving us info on local activities. Would definitely stay here again.
We enjoyed peace in a fully equipped, cozy cabin with stunning views! Plenty of animals were around, and we appreciated the absence of air traffic or road noise—just tranquility and beautiful scenery. The hosts were communicative and helpful. The dogs loved this place, too, as they had full range to the wraparound deck but were contained from wandering off too far. We would love to return if our schedules allow it again.
I prefer a minimal contact, secluded stay when renting places to stay and this was unfortunately not the case here. The homeowner visited the property at least 5 times during our 6 day stay (that we know of) to fill water, chop down trees, and landscape the property. Other notes: lots of cobwebs/spiders inside and a difficult access road to the property that requires a vehicle with adequate clearance. On a positive note, the deck was a nice place to relax and watch the hummingbirds.
Hunting trip stay, fantastic views, great house to stay in. Other than the road to get there, (last two miles are pretty tough, but not owners fault), the whole week was great. From beautiful weather, great house setup overlooking Mountain View’s for miles, to comfortable stay, was a beautiful vacation to remember.
