2 NIGHT MIN THROUGH FALL AND WINTER, EXCEPT HOLIDAYS. PLEASE READ ALL HOUSE RULES BEFORE BOOKING.


Recent improvements to all our outdoor spaces, include a wrap around upper and lower deck with plentry of outdoor seating. Sun deck dock with lots of room to enjoy the sun and swimming, along with the other water equipment we offer.

Spend quality time with family and friends and enjoy the endless lake and mountain views from this 4BR/3BA home located inside a gated community on Lake James. The private double decker dock offers space for a boat, not included, and two decks for lounging. There are area options for boat rentals and other water toys. Included, are 4 kayaks for guest use and 2 paddle boards. The outdoor entertaining space is great with a large back yard with fire pit and plenty of outdoor seating for dining. Your eye goes directly to the water! There are upper and lower decks on the rear of the home, facing the lake, and both offer seating options. These decks have just been updated and expanded! Our lot has expanded to include the cove to the right and we are working to make this space usable to our guests by adding walkways for kayak access.

Boat trailers are not allowed to be parked in the driveways, if you bring a boat, you will need to secure off site parking. The manager can send you information on a location and costs.

About the house:
Upper or main level has master bedroom and bath with patio doors to the deck overlooking the lake, a second bedroom with another king bed, large hall bath, and great room design with kitchen, eat in dining, and living room with vaulted ceilings and gas fireplace. New larger doors now lead out to the deck with extra dining options and expanded seating.
The lower level has a large den and smart TV, bedroom with queen and new larger patio doors to the lower deck, and one more bedroom with a queen and also a bunk bed. Large hall bath. The laundry area is located off of the bunk room. Home offers internet and 3 TVs for convenience.
Lake James is located in both McDowell and Burke Counties and offers 30% of it's shoreline to the State Park, so it's no wonder that there is no shortage of outdoor activites to enjoy in our area. We have boating, swimming, fishing, kayaking and canoes, hiking, biking, trails and mountain climbing. Marion and Morganton are nearby towns that offer shopping, dining, and entertainment opportunities. Come explore the great outdoors at Lake James and see what makes our water stand out .

Load and start the dishwasher
Gather used towels
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights, lock the doors and return the keys
Leave used beds turned down.Gather and start a load of towels.
Fully extinguish fires, brush off grill, and put water equipment away safely for drying.
Remove any excess trash and take it to the convenience center, nearby, just outside the ma8n gate to the right, on the left side of the road.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
All trash is bagged and placed into containers provided. No trash is allowed outside the containers. Excessive trash must be taken off by guests.
Pets are not allowed, not even by visitors of guests. Fines or expulsion may occur. Kayaks must be stored after use and vests and paddles also.
Full name, mailing address, email contact & cell phone are required of booking party for reservation to be fully confirmed. Photo ID may be requested.

Great Getaway!

What a great neighborhood and comfortable home for our annual reunion of 4 friends! Very private with terrific views of the lake. Spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds. We loved the exterior spaces...porches on both levels, with the bottom level protected from rain, firepit, and a two-story dock. Well-equipped kitchen, refrigerators on both levels, TVs for everyone!. Immediate response when host was notified of special lightbulbs needing replacement. Excellent experience!

Family vacation week lakeside NC

No issues with the overall experience from reserving, payment, checkin, etc. Quiet neighborhood. Enjoyed the kayaks, paddle board, and dock every day of stay. Great hikes all within an hours drive and a day spent in Asheville.

Guys Weekend

4 Long-time friends stayed at the great property for 3-nights. We all really enjoyed the fishing, fire pit, views and everything else the area had to offer. Looking forward to a return trip at some point in the future.

Fantastic House - great family trip to the mountains

Great layout for family with children - the adults stayed upstairs and the kids had the entire downstairs. Really great onsite items for a getaway - kayaks, paddle boards, grills, cookware, etc. Super convenient to Marina for boat or jet ski rental - we did a half day jet ski rental and it was super easy. All instructions and communication was very well organized. Our family lake getaway will be forever memorable!

Gorgeous lakefront vacation home

We loved our stay! Had so much fun using the kayaks and fire pit and just enjoying the lake/mountain view. House was great for kids to play downstairs. Clean and well stocked. Bathrooms smell of mildew but otherwise appeared very clean.

Great place for family vacation

The house and property was great for our family vacation. The view was awesome. The layout with both an upper and a lower family room was ideal. We enjoyed the fire pit and water sports. We hope to return here again. The property manager, Karen, was so helpful and made our stay very comfortable. The owners have thought of details that make the home ideal for families.

Clean property with awesome lake amenities! We had a great time and hope to be back. Only feedback is that the gas grill was pretty dirty (assuming prior visitors didn’t clean before leaving).

Wonderful Family Gathering Place!

Highly recommend this comfortable home with awesome decking and beautiful lake/mountain views. Enjoyed the dock, fire pit and plentiful deck seating. Inside time was great with large kitchen island dinner table and cozy family corner spot in ground floor with large TV for sports. Close to Lake James Park for hiking trails and Dollar General for anything you may need. Everyone loved this home and would gladly return!

Wonderful Experience

We had an excellent time - even with a little rain from Ian. The home was perfect. We loved enjoying the views of the lake from the deck and the dock and even saw an eagle. As we were leaving we all agreed that we would come back and repeat the stay next year! Thank you

Lake Vacation

This home enjoys a private lot in an excellent location. The well-maintained outdoor space, including the dock and stunning back porch views, was a highlight of our stay. However, we rated the property three stars due to its outdated interior and poorly maintained amenities. The master bathroom sink had no water, the bed mattress was old, stained, and uncomfortable, and the kitchen pots and pans were in poor condition. Additionally, the front burner on the stove was nonfunctional, and the gas grill was difficult to light, failing to sustain a flame for more than 60 seconds. We also discovered thick black mold on the washing machine’s door seal, accompanied by a foul odor. While we managed to clean enough to use the machine, it was an unpleasant task during a vacation. On a positive note, when we lost power midweek, the property management company was highly responsive, keeping us updated with Duke Energy’s progress.

Great location, good house.

We had a great time at this house for fall break. The local restaurants were great as well. There were some bugs in the home due to weather stripping issues at the front door, but this is easily fixed and the house was very clean. The only downside was the slowness of the wifi. Couldn’t support streaming.

Great Vacation Rental!

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at Forest Lake Heights! The house and view were beautiful! This property is a lot bigger than what you can tell in the photos, there was so much indoor and outdoor space. Even though there are neighbors, it felt very secluded and private. We saw tons of deer and turkeys! The neighborhood had steep roads, as did the driveway to the house, but that can be expected in this area. We would definitely visit this house again.

Great rental

Everything was as depicted in the listing. The house was set up perfectly for our family, with plenty of space for sleeping, playing, and lounging. The only indoor eating area is in the kitchen with stools, which would have been hard with younger kids, but it was just fine for us. The neighborhood is VERY hilly. We had a wonderful stay. Great Lake House for fun and relaxation

This lake house has a great layout for hanging out with the family and plenty of space to have some quite time. We loved the large inside table for meals and just steps away for outside tables on the deck with a great view of the lake. The downstairs was a perfect spot for our younger crowd that stayed up late well after the camp fire was out. I'm an early riser and loved sitting out by the lake with my coffee every morning. We drove over to Grandfather Mt and Mt Mitchell which were both beautiful but actually enjoyed the simple hikes at Lake James State park the most. The four kayaks were a great bonus to use right off the dock. We really want to come back here next year and rent a boat for a couple of days. Oh, almost forgot, the house was clean. We have a few really picky people in our family and if they say it's clean then it's defiantly clean. We had a great time.

Nice property in quiet surrounding with lake

Property is great. Property manager Karen is very quick in responding to all the questions. We had a great stay. House is well equipped with games, entertainment. Linens provided were clean and neat. House is well decorated and has all basic things you need. Except for item. Basic personal toiletries are not included. We had to run for even basic hand wash soap and spare toilette tissues and kitchen paper towels!!! That was the only disappointing thing. I suggest to keep at least some soaps, hand wash, paper towels and tissues etc. Otherwise location is great with stunning view in the back with lack and private dock etc.

Good, but NOT for little kids

The property is really nice, but would NOT recommend it if you have little kids. Our family consisted of adults plus 5 year old twins and a 2 year old - there are no safe places for them outside, front or back. The backyard has a dropoff that was really scary and we couldn't take our eyes off the kids. My husband commented that it's a lawsuit waiting to happen. The pictures do not do it justice for how extreme it really is. The front alongside the driveway is also bad, so unless we were on the deck or on the dock, the kids were stuck inside. We did take them for walks on the road, but this was also hard because the roads in this development are very hilly.

Great location, great views, fun family dock, responsive hosts enjoyed the kayaks and the lily pad and fire pit. Downstairs fridge was a nice surprise since we had a young family down there. We were amazed at how soundproofed it seemed. We didn’t hear our 6 month old grand daughter in the middle of the night. The upper deck was great, nice and wide and plenty of room for kids to play. Challenges: we expected the steps down to the dock given it is a mountain lake home. The drop off in the yard with no fence gave us anxiety with kids. We had planned on using the hammock area, but needed some TLC still after Helene. Also - internet - if you’re planning on working remotely, make sure you have a Plan B.We had great family time.
