The home is located in a beachfront jungle environment, and guests should expect insects and wildlife typical of the area. Guests should also be comfortable staying in a home without air-conditioning. Like much of the Caribbean, Mahahual can experience seasonal sargassum seaweed. Conditions vary and cannot be predicted. This location generally experiences less impact than many nearby areas, and even when seaweed is present on shore, the water is often clearer. When conditions are unfavorable, guests often choose to swim downtown, sightsee, or explore other nearby beaches. ________________________________________ Caretaker & Guest Support An on-site caretaker lives in a casita attached to the house and provides 24/7 security and assistance. They are available to help with any issues during your stay. We can also assist with arranging experienced tour guides and excursions throughout the region. ________________________________________ Is Casa de Coco Right for You? Casa de Coco is ideal for guests who value privacy, tranquility, and a close connection to nature. It is well suited for couples or families who enjoy open-air living, eco-friendly homes, and a peaceful beachfront setting away from crowds. We hope you enjoy a memorable stay at Casa de Coco and come to love Mahahual as much as we do. ________________________________________

Beautiful house and excellent hosts. Private beach in front of house kept groomed and cleaned. A nice escape from the tourist scene of Costa Maya cruise ship area in Mahahual.
Our host was welcoming. The house was a great value. Fantastic out of the way location. Very private - away from the cruise ship crowds. Our caretaker was available as needed and addressed any minor issues we had.
We absolutely loved this place. Great communications from owners. Great house. The caretaker Darrebel is a wonderful person. His wife made us the most amazing mole' I have ever tasted. The beach is fantastic.
Well built custom home. Very private and secluded. Great location to take day trips to explore the area. House caretaker was very helpful. Easy communication with owner.
It is such a beautiful property and so private. Kathleen the property owner, was very helpful when it came to any questions that i had. Daribel was the caretaker and he got us anything that we needed. We will definitely be back.
Beautiful house with a private beach, the perfect place to relax and unwind. House was outfitted with everything we needed, and the housekeeper Daribel checked in on us every day and had some of the cutest pets. Kathleen was incredibly helpful and responsive and made sure we had more than enough information about the house and the surrounding area. Overall an awesome experience!
We could tell that this place had been rented numerous times before we arrived just by the first viewing of the premise.. As we settled in we realized we didn't have hot water for the first week , toilet was broke, shower head was broke, no seasonings for cooking, the French press bottom was cracked, there's no broom for cleaning the floor of the sand.. Numerous odds and ends (nothing too serious) that should be readily available for tenants, shouldn't need to ask.. We overlooked most of it and made it all work, if you are not real picky.. This is a great location! Great beach front!

I am sorry that you had issues. Renters and being right on the beach is rough on the our home. My husband and I are there every 3 to 4 months and we always ensure that all items are fixed before we leave. We have full-time caretakers who help with any issues and we have friend in the area who checks on the house once a week. We just installed a new hot water heater 4 months ago. It is separate from the caretaker's unit so they would not know if you did not have hot water. It turns out the pilot light was out and we just needed to push a button. If you would have said something to our caretakers or myself it would have been taken care of. I don't understand why you are saying the toilet is broke. It works fine, I just asked you to watch it because the handle sticks. My husband is replacing it now. You had mentioned the showerhead in a message and I said I would send someone over to replace it. You said not to bother and you would just use the handheld. It is being replaced now. We will buy a new French press and some spices though I do not know how well the spices will keep in the humidity. If you needed a broom we would have had our caretakers bring you one. Our caretakers wife would have also been happy to come and sweep the house for you. She does not leave cleaning supplies in the house because she feels it is her job to take care of this for our guests. The stove/oven was also broken somewhere along the way so we are buying a new of those as well. I would have liked it if you had told me what other odds and ends you think we should make available to guests. Any time anyone has asked for anything, we have always purchased it for the house. I just wish you would have communicated better with us or our caretakers and your stay would have been much more enjoyable. Thank you for staying with us and I hope you have better luck with your rentals in the future.
Booking and communication we're easy and straightforward - Kathleen was a prompt, friendly and helpful host.
The property itself is out of a dream! Right on the beach, with incredible views and peace and tranquility. A few people walked by every so often, but unless we went somewhere, we didn't see anyone!
The onsite caretaker, Daribel, is polite, helpful and friendly.
The apartment is well equipped, we had one issue which was dealt with quickly, and the information given beforehand put us at ease.
Kathleen made a recommendation for Mahahual Ecotours, owned by Victor Rosales - we spent the day with him, and if you can, do it!! He was amazing!
From the property, we spent the day at Bacalar Lagoon, Mahahual town, and Hayhu beach club - all brilliant days with lots of incredible experiences.
We didn't get the best weather at the start of our 6night stay, so unfortunately couldn't get out to snorkel or use the additional equipment on offer, but if you had calmer days, it would be awesome!
We were really happy with our stay - a dreamy location for a very reasonable price 👍
Beautiful stay in a tranquil place and incredible hosts!
We absolutely loved our stay at Casa Coco. The location is stunning - it is so secluded, other than a few houses down the road it was just surrounded by jungle for miles and a beautiful, essentially private beach. We barely saw anyone else throughout our stay. It’s the perfect place if you are looking to escape the the tourist trail and find some real tranquility. It’s easily accessible by car also as the roads are of surprisingly good quality. The property itself was very cute and super clean - it suited our needs perfectly and you can’t argue with being right on the beach! The sound of the waves , the sunrise over the sea and the stars at night were simply magical! We noticed other reviews had mentioned the problem of seaweed / debris in the area but we didn’t find this to be an issue and the caretaker made sure to clean the beach for us each day which we were very grateful for. Kathleen was also an amazing host - she really went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and was super helpful with quick communication. She gave a lot of useful advice about the area and getting around and really helped us out with a couple of issues relating to our trip. We are very thankful and we really couldn’t have asked for more / our only wish is we could have stayed longer!
A BEAUTIFUL HOME HIDDEN ON A SECRET BEACH. ESCAPE THE WORLD TO A PLACE ONLY THE SEAGULLS KNOW ABOUT. A PERFECT PLACE FOR TWO COUPLES TO RELAX AND UNWIND. I ONLY WISH WE COULD HAVE STAYED LONGER.
The house was just as advertised. Communication with the owner before and during our stay was excellent and very prompt. The beach and ocean in front of the house are beautiful, we were able to swim to the reef and snorkel from the beach. Stargazing from the rooftop deck was AMAZING! The house and property were peaceful, private and very relaxing. The caretaker, Daribel and his wife, Flor were helpful and kept everything cleaned up and nice. Flor even cooked us a meal one evening that was delicious! They were accessible when needed, but otherwise respected our privacy. We highly recommend this property for a relaxing beach get away.
We had a great time in Mahahual in Casa de Cocos. We were looking for isolation due to the pandemic... and got It here! Kitchen was well appointed, but grill wasn’t working. There was a lovely beach in front of the house and use of kayaks. The only issue we had was the amount of garbage on the beach itself... not the fault of the house owner of course, just a bit of a surprise. (we took walks for miles but there was quite a bit of plastic / sargasso on the vast expanse of the beach ...)
PS: the on-site house manager Daribel is super helpful and nice to get kayaks and beach chairs out — and his wife can make you the best shrimp ceviche!!

Great Potential
As much as we wanted to love this place there were just too many problems to ignore. Several plumbing issues, kitchen poorly stocked for cooking, and unsightly garbage on the beach immediately adjacent to the property boundaries. Beach road traffic can get busy at times but you only notice it when you are in the house… can’t hear it from the beach.
The house, balcony and beach have comfortable furniture. The floor plan of the house is laid out well with a full balcony providing views of the beach. Nice location between Xcalak and Mahahual. No noisy neighbors. Kind caretakers who cooked us a delicious chicken mole meal… some of the best mole I have ever had.
The house is well kept for the most part but some issues and basic maintenance needs, brought to the attention of the owners, need to be addressed to provide a comfortable and fully functional rental.

I am very sorry that we did not meet your expectations but as I state in our description, living off the grid is not for everyone. We have marine toilets to conserve water. We do have a full-size gas hot water tank, but it is gravity fed, so it does take a little while for the hot water to come into the showers. I really do not understand your comments about a poorly stocked kitchen for cooking. Our kitchen is fully stocked for cooking with a complete set of pots and pans, knives, serve ware, plenty of very nice dishes, glassware and silverware. As far as the beach is concerned, our caretaker is on the beach by 7am every morning cleaning our beach. We have one of the cleanest, nicest beaches in the area. Garbage on beaches is a major issue in Mexico, as well as on almost every beach around the world. The trash comes and goes, our caretaker does the best he can. I am sorry that you were disturbed by traffic. It is usually very quite on our road. Lastly, we and our caretakers take great pride in our home and constantly repair or replace any items immediately when we are notified. Almost everything in the house is new including the furniture, appliances, grill, windows, solar system, etc. The house is freshly painted and the paint is constantly being refreshed. However, this is a house on the beach. There will be issues, which we address as they arise. Thank you for your comments and we hope we have better travel experiences in the future.
This was our first experience using VRBO, or any other site like it. We were thrilled by how it all went! The communication with the property owners was top notch, and we left the states feeling secure from that communication!
The property was super clean, and as described! In fact, we can't think of anything to complain about... Which is rare because we're spoiled Americans. :)
This place was a gem. Next time, we will stay here the whole time, instead of breaking up our trip visiting different places.
Thanks for making our "firstime" so easy.

Casa de Coco - Mahahual, Mexico
Very nice and comfortable house with a large balcony and steps to the rooftop to watch the sunset. It's very private and has great breezes . You will definitely need a car as it is fairly remote. The house was stocked with plenty of linens, beach towels, etc. It's located on a beautiful sandy-bottom beach. There's a convenient beach club down the road with good food and atmosphere.

Paradise found!
Wonderful fully equipt home with a patient caretaker! My children wanted 2 coconuts a day! Absolutely stunning location with a fabulous beach club within walking distance. Mahahual is about a 20 minute drive with lots of wildlife to see along the way if you keep your eyes peeled! Kathleen was very easy to deal with and everything was as she said it would be. Highly recommend for families, my children loved it as did my husband and I. The stars over the ocean were quite literally dazzling, I would not have changed a single thing

About the host

Why they chose this property
We chose our property because of it's location. We love downtown Mahahual, as well as Xcalak. We very rarely eat at the house so we like to go to restaurants for every meal. We are 15 Kilometers south of Mahahual on the beach road. The beach road can be very rough so most of the time we take the paved roads. Our house is less than a kilometer off the first cut through between the paved road and the beach road heading south to Xcalak. Taking the paved road we can be in town between 15 and 20 minutes. In addition, since we are south of town we can take the paved road and be in Xcalak in less than 30 minutes. There are very few house directly off the first turnoff.
What makes this property unique
What is so unique about our house is the beach. The first time we were in Mahahual, we drove up and down the beach road trying to find the location of our dream beach house. As soon as we saw Puerto Angel beach, my husband and I looked at each other and said this is the most beautiful beach we have ever seen!
