It is so restful and the dogs loved it

It was a very restful place for my husband and myself. The dogs were in heaven being able to swim all day. We would definitely recommend it, just watch out for the steep stairs to the bedroom.

Quick ADK Getaway!

Mike and I and our 2 dogs love FPC. The weather was beautiful and we spent all day outside hiking, the dogs swam in the pond and Francis Lake. The cottage is clean and the kitchen is very well appointed. We enjoyed cooking and sitting by the fire pit in the evening. It's my second year here, plan to go back every year! Thank you to Carol and Dan...wonderful hosts!

Perfect all the way around

Our stay was great! Everything was exactly as described by the hosts, Carol and Dan. Since we were in the area looking for property of our own, Dan took two hours out of his day to chat with us since he is familiar with the region, forestry, and the real estate market. It was a very nice thing for him to do. Although it was a bit too early in the year to enjoy the dock or the pond, the scenery was beautiful. We will definitely be back!

Excellent experience…plan on staying again!

Carol & Dan’s communication was excellent, they provided all of the information we needed to make out check-in & stay stress free. The property is on a private rd with plenty of parking. The cottage was very clean & organized & has a nice combination of rustic appeal & convenient modern features like the gas fireplace, the bathroom, TV, etc. The kitchen was spacious with nice appliances & everything we needed & the large open living/dining room was very spacious as well & the foyer was also large great for storing our snowmobile gear, coolers, etc. Overall an excellent place to stay any time of year, for a very reasonable price & in a great location, we plan on staying there again & would highly recommend it to anyone.

Wonderful time to get away and reconnect!

Just returned from a wonderful week with family - Samantha, three teenagers and three dogs. Lived up to all expectations! It was great to SLOW DOWN with no cell service or WiFi. Had fun cooking, hiking, fishing, reading books, playing games, and generally taking it easy. We did have concerns about bugs but they simply were not an issue. We loved the cottage layout, very clean and well organized, the fire pit, dock and surrounding area. Carol and Dan were right there if needed (they weren't), and made us feel very welcome. It was our first time in Adirondacks as a family and we're already making plans for next summer!

Natures heart

There are far too many wonderful things that we saw in such a short time and that in itself should speak volumes on the wonderment of this oasis. Nature truly is the best show to watch, no cable required! The cleanliness that we walked into surpassed even my expectations. The sheer beauty is breathtaking! All you have to do is take a seat, breathe, and listen. I could see a naturalist like Jon Muir himself being inspired in this environment, or Robert Frost writing another epic poem. Thank you to Carol and Dan for your amazing hospitality. It was a pleasure meeting with you both! Eric and I had a wonderful time and our little fluff loved going in the pond and listening to all nature had to offer! Truly a place of tranquility and peace for the soul.

A beautiful off-grid getaway

The cottage property in the woods was absolutely beautiful. 115 acres of privacy, private pond for fishing, canoe rides, watching the beavers work on their dams every day. Dan and Carol really thought of every detail preparing the cottage for our stay. Plenty of towels, pillows, and blankets. Places for everyone to sit, a beautiful fire pit outdoors with a stockpile of firewood and kindling. Full complement of cooking supplies including spices, utensils, pots and pans, dishes, paper towels, napkins etc. Mesh bug-proof shirts available for all as the flies can be overwhelming outside. Very large Weber grill with extra propane if needed. We had hoped for wi-fi, which there was not, as cell service is nonexistent in the region, but it turned out to be refreshing to be forced to unplug for the duration of our stay. All in all we had really no complaints. Would definitely recommend and we will likely be returning ourselves.

About the host

Hosted by Carol or Dan Empie #315 376 4433

Host profile image
We live 2 miles up from the cottage on Number Four Rd and have been at that residence for 30 years. Dan is a forester and went to ESF at Syracuse University. He also has his realtor license and works for Timberland Realty. The focus is on listing wooded parcels and some have camps, houses or other structures. To inquire about his listings you can email him at dempie@timberlandrealty.net. Dan,also, does private consulting for forestry & land management.
Carol has been an RN for over 30 years which has led to a very varied set of work skills. She also had a wellness & fitness center in Lowville for 11 years. Currently she is focusing on the cottage, looking into other business ventures and works at a medium security prison as an RN.

Why they chose this property

We took care of the property for the 'long distant' owner for years before it became available for sale almost to the day of Carol closing her fitness center. There was a 'land developer' that was interested in the property also. Dr Fritelli was the current owner & had purchased the cottage and pond from Minnie Peck previously, who raised 5 children there. Dr Fritelli loved the property & entrusted much of the care, maintenance and management to Carol & Dan. He had it for his own private use. The developer (whom shall remain nameless) offered Dr Fritelli a fair market price for the cottage & land. Since the Empies had 'first refusal' we were able to match his offer to Dr Fritelli. Of course, the developer came back with a much more substantial offer. We could not match that. Dr Fritelli decided to sell the property to us at the first price and refused the developers. As stated earlier, he loved the property & knew we would take good care of it & share it with others without exploiting it. So, love of the land won against development and 'greener (money) pastures. Way to go Dr Fritelli...if only Ethan Allen & other business used you as an example!
We fixed up the cottage to share with others and, also, so we could afford it. We keep the rent very reasonable because we believe everyone should be able to enjoy the serenity of nature.
It was a lot of work but we enjoy work (crazy, huh!). Dr Fritelli would be proud. In our guest book he has a portion dedicated to his saying 'good bye' to his much loved land.
Our belief is to keep it affordable and always give more than what is expected.

What makes this property unique

I think the best way to describe the Forest Pond Cottage experience is to simply and truly experience the calm, penetrating healing of nature. Within all the comforts of home you will feel the relief of everyday stress. The cottage truly becomes your home away from home. The wind blowing through the trees, beavers busy being beavers, sunrises over the pond, fish jumping , frogs and peepers in the spring, little turtles trying to make it to the pond, deer wading in the waters edge, coyotes cackling at times it is all magical. There are several great close by places we share with guests as to how to find them. We call them “ the best kept secrets” in the Adirondacks. Visiting here is like finding yourself~
