About this property

A large house in grounds, in the New Forest National Park and close to the sea

Oakhurst was originally built in the 1930s with subsequent sympathetic extensions. It stands in its own grounds exceeding 1 acre and includes a hard, enclosed tennis court. There is a large patio with water feature and BBQ with outdoor lighting. There are numerous mature oaks and other trees at the front, with extensive lawns at the rear and a large area for parking. The kitchen has been completely rebuilt with a twin electric ovens and a gas hob; an American-style fridge/freezer and a drinks cooler. There is a breakfast bar and a separate dining table; washing machine and dryer. The bathrooms have been re-tiled and fitted with new power showers. There is an open fireplace in the lounge and a pool table, with separate dining and TV rooms and a dedicated WiFi connection. The Pilgrim pub and restaurant is 8 mins walk away; the New Forest is less than half a mile away and the sea can be reached on foot in 15 mins. There is an 18 hole golf course 2 miles down the road to Hythe

Spacious but tired
The property could do with decorating as the rooms look tired and in need of new carpets. Mainly clean but dirty mugs in the cupboard. Someone needs to check as some lights in the main bedroom were flickering badly & the door to the shower didn't always close properly. The Jack & Jill shower was very small & the temperature of the water couldn't be turned down making it far too hot for comfort and the sink plug didn't work. The house was on a road unsuitable for walking along. Despite these things, it was spacious and comfortable. The garden is great for children to play.

Nice property, kitchen fabulous. Some rooms need a bit of updating. Beds very comfortable. Noisy boiler. Cleanliness good overall but found dirty plate and kitchen bins were not clean. Pilgrim pub was lovely good food and atmosphere. Would like to visit again in the future.

Lovely Girls family/friends weekend away
We all loved our weekend stay. The house offered everything we needed plus more and it was in excellent distance from the supermarket and pub. We loved the space in the kitchen and lounge so we could all sit and eat/ spend time together and the kitchen facilities were great! Everything we could possibly want. They only one thing I would suggest the hosts to consider looking at was, we did find it very strange that the house offered so much and yet we all had to take our own bath/hair towels! For a girls family weekend away, where we would all have several showers and hair washes , you can imagine how many towels were needed and this was something that took up such a lot of room in our luggage/car space. I would have happily paid extra for these to be provided, it really was such a pain taking them. The pub was great and within walking distance, however, the road was extremely dangerous to walk along at night, as there were no lights or paths and the cars were going so fast. I would not advise to walk along there with young children or pushing a pram/wheelchair. It would have been helpful knowing prior to the visit that we would need torches/ reflector jackets just to be able to walk safely to the pub at night. We really did have such a wonderful weekend away together and would love to spread the word and return however, our family and friends all have dogs and therefore we would be unable to return together which is a real shame. Thank you once again
