About this property
Great ski house with easy access yet a world apart...
If you are looking for a place to unwind, relax and create unforgettable memories with family or friends you have found the perfect get-away vacation home. A gorgeous house nestled in the middle of the wasatch national forest that lets you hear the sounds of nature rather than the bustle of the city with unbeatable views of tall pine trees and the surrounding mountains.
Big cottonwood canyon is a special place that will touch your heart.
This 3 bedroom + loft home features a large equipped kitchen with breakfast bar seating for 4 & dining room table that seats 6. A cozy living room off the kitchen features a gas fireplace & scenic views from every window. 2 patio doors open onto a huge deck with a barbecue for outdoor grilling & a hot tub that looks into the wasatch national forest - also perfect for star gazing the nights sky. The master bedroom is located on the main floor with a queen size bed with an attached beautifully tiled bathroom. The other bedrooms are located on the top floor with a queen bed in the second bedroom & a twin over full bunk bed in the 3rd. The loft has a twin bed with trundle - full bath that was just remodeled also on this floor. New flooring and lighting as well as a new TV system have been upgraded this year. There is also a foosball table.
With over 500' inches of snow fall each year you are minutes away from a world class skiing experience. One mile from solitude ski resort & three miles to brighton ski resort with a short 30 minute drive to snowbird & alta. Downtown salt lake city, the salt lake international airport & park city are only a 45 minute drive.
At this time, it is only rented for 5 weeks in the winter/spring, as I use it as much as possible at other times.
The house was previously on VRBO under a different listing (506434) but due to some web issues I have had to relist it. The previous reviews are below in the description.
If you stay once, it will be a regular gem on your vacation circuit.
The house has two wonderful caretakers (Deanna and Mark) on site to remove all snow, clear driveway and be of assistance.

Our family (6 adults and a young child) spent a week in this wonderful home, just down the road from Brighton and Solitude mountains. The house has great usable space -- living room/dining area and the playroom are nice sized rooms, and provided us with different areas to spread out. Kitchen is big and well stocked. We cooked all our meals there and we weren't lacking for anything. Bedrooms are also ample, with comfortable beds; bathrooms are modernized. The furniture is comfortable, clean, and cozy, which makes you feel right at home! Hot tub, foosball, movies, plenty of towels, blankets, large washer/dryer -- the owners have provided all you need for a relaxing and happy time. The scenery out the windows is lovely and in fact, the whole Cottonwood Canyon is breathtaking! You won't even mind taking a drive in and out of the canyon if you need more groceries because the views are so spectacular! And the owner, Jamie, is very responsive, extremely nice and accommodating. The caretaker couple living downstairs are wonderful as well -- they are available for immediate help, and they cleared the driveway early in the morning each time it snowed. Everything was just perfect and since it snowed 2 feet while we were there, the skiing was unbelievable!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin. It is really easy to get to because it is right off the main road. There was plenty of room for everyone and the fireplace was easy to use and instantly hot! There is a washer and dryer right in the house and there was even detergent available. This was really handy because we were skiing every day and got things wet and crusty. My kids favorite part was the jacuzzi. There is nothing better than coming home from a cold day of skiing and relaxing in a hot tub! There were plenty of towels and there was extra bedding in almost every closet. My only complaint would be about the kitchen stuff. I like to cook and there is no cheese grater, or electric griddle. We used a vegetable peeler to grate cheese - which took awhile. The pans are kind of odd sized and there is one lid that fits about 5 pans. Also, there were limited serving bowls or mixing bowls. However, there were a TON of glasses, and plenty of plates and bowls. We made due with what was there and had a great time!
My Response
Thank you so much for leaving a review AND I very much appreciate the feedback! We will make sure that we upgrade the kitchen a bit with better pots/pans etc. Its a great point especially when most do a lot of cooking there. Glad you had a great time!
We've stayed at Moose Lodge twice and have had a wonderful experience both times. It's the perfect ski house. Cozy, warm, open with a great kitchen for cooking and serving, lots of room for your ski gear in the front foyer, washer and dryer, comfortable beds and two family room areas so guests can play foosball or watch movies in one while others read a book or watch the snow fall in the woods in the other. It's so peaceful and the views are beautiful. Even better than the house itself is the owner Jamie. I can't say enough good things about her and how she treats her guests. The first year we stayed we had rented from the previous owner. In between the time we rented and the date we arrived, Jamie and her family had purchased the house. We were nervous that they might not honor the reservation and we wouldn't have a place to stay. They reached out to us and let us know that everything was all set and we arrived and enjoyed the house as planned. Jamie and the caretakers were so accomodating and helpful with answers and suggestions. The second time we stayed, we really appreciated all the upgrades they had done to water system and upstairs bathroom especially. We arrived as planned but a few days later there was a terrible storm with hurricane force winds that literally ripped the roof off the house and knocked a tree down next to the house before our eyes. The metal roof was dangling off the house and quite precarious. This is when Jamie's true grit and caring came through. She literally was willing to do anything we needed to help us out. The house was still habitable because there was a second roof underneath but the house was without heat and water. She had a roofing crew there the same day. We stuck it out for a day because the wood burning stove provided heat but we had to de-camp to a hotel in the valley for a night or two until the power came back on. The storm was so bad that Solitude was shut down for two days. Jamie did everything in her power to help us including sending cupcakes to the hotel which the kids loved. She offered to send dinner up to the cabin, booked the rooms for us including for our guests who were staying with us for a couple of nights. She kept in touch constantly with updates. She is a truly wonderful person and host. We are so grateful that they are willing to share their house with us. We can't wait for our next trip. THANK YOU Jamie!!!!
My Response
Thank you so much for your comments. You were all the most gracious guests and cannot say I would have responded with the kindness and positive attitude that you all had. New roof and deck are in place and we sincerely hope to have you all back!
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Moose Lodge. Jamie and her caretakers were hospitable and responsive. We plan to come back as often as possible.
We were 2 families sharing this house. Great location close to Solitude. The kitchen is wide open making cooking for the crew easy. We enjoyed the foosball table and the nice selection of Will Farrell movies. Jamie was easy to work with and very attentive. The onsight caretaker got us a needed tool for a boot repair. the main rooms with the queens were great for the adults but the kids beds could use some updating. Would we stay here again and work with Jamie. ABSOLUTELY!!! But it didn't hurt that we got 26 inches of fresh powder the first 3 days of our stay!
I have stayed at this property before when it was owned by another person. Since then, the new owners have made substantial upgrades, including the upstairs bathroom, the floors of the living room, the fireplace, the TV, etc. They even bought a foosball table and dropped it off while I was staying there, which was great. The property is right off the road, which makes access really easy. This is important if it's really dumping up there. I have stayed in other places in the area, and it can be actually quite hard to get in and out if you don't have special tires. This may seem like a small thing, but the house is on the south side of the road. I actually prefer this, because it makes it easier to get up to the mountains in the afternoon and easier to get back into the house. You don't have to cross a lot of traffic. The caretakers did a great job keeping the driveway clear and making sure we didn't have any problems. There's a great restaurant about a quarter mile up the road. I really enjoyed that. I did notice that the Wi-Fi was pretty spotty, but my understanding is that has to do with the shape of the canyon itself. We just used a phone hotspot, and it was fine. We try to come to Utah in the summer and winter every year. I have stayed in both big and Little Cottonwood Canyon's, but I may make this my new place. Solitude has such a mellow feel, not such a crazy vibe. For a family like ours, this is way preferable to the party scene. I really felt well taken care of by the owners and the caretakers, and overall it was probably the best place I've stayed personally.

About the host
Hosted by Will
I moved to Salt Lake City from Colorado. I love the outdoors and spend every possible moment playing and relaxing in the mountains.
Why they chose this property
I looked for many years for a mountain home that was close but felt very far away from the hustle and bustle of life. I saw this home and fell in love with the location and the warm and inviting energy of the home. Additionally, I loved the separate mother-in-law apartment with wonderful long term caretakers, Deanna and Mark, who add to the wonderful feeling that the house provides! I am there every weekend it is available!
What makes this property unique
What I love most about this house is the incredible access to all that the mountains have to offer. Even though it is right off the main road, it feels very separate, especially when looking out over the incredible backyard and relaxing on the large porch. We regularly see moose and other great animals, the place is incredibly close to world class hiking and mountain biking and our favorite ski area. In the summer, there are lots of outdoor lounging areas and the creek is just out the back; I usually do not rent it in the summer because I’m up there so much and I only rent it 5 weeks in the winter.
