Sound front-Close to the Ocean-AVAILABLE Memorial weekend, "90" 5-star reviews
Linen/Towel package available for "8" at $85. NO cancellation policy NO Parties allowed. NO PETS allowed Someone in the party MUST be 26 or older. Verified at check-in.
The house is 1,650 square feet and sits one wooded acre. The house has the popular 'reverse' floor plan (living area upstairs with bedroom areas downstairs). The house sits on a cove of the Albemarle Sound.
There is a 110 foot private walkway from the house to a dock with a gazebo. The house and gazebo face south-west offering beautiful sunsets. A porch off the kitchen faces the woods and offers a quiet serenity not often found at the beach. The beach (Atlantic Ocean) is less than a mile away and there is a bicycle path that runs in front of the 'Sound Crab', by the Wright Memorial ending at the major ocean access point in Kill Devil Hills.
The house is tastefully decorated. There is an extraordinary amount of glass to take advantage of the sound and woods views. The kitchen is well equipped and contains all modern appliances. The house is far enough off the road (that dead ends less than 100 feet in a cul-de-sac) that traffic is rarely heard.
A full-size washer and dryer are in a storage area on this floor. A Weber charcoal barbecue grill is available on the deck.
A deck covers three sides of the lower level while the porch covers a fourth side.
A deck covers two sides of the upper level while a porch covers a third side. Rising from this level of deck is a roof top deck. This deck is 35 feet off the ground.
The house is wired for the internet. I can provide a more thorough description if requested...

The property was excellent and even nicer than the VRBO pics make it look! The property owner has taken excellent care of the house and property and continued to make renovations and improvements to the house. Our trip included 4 buddies going for a late season duck hunt and this property was an excellent option for our stay. Everything was as advertised or better than advertised. We had no issues with cleanliness or maintenance issues. The only complaint we could even mention would be that unfortunately the grill needed to be locked down due to some guests in the past and the grill was not in a well lit area. The property owner was excellent with communications, very flexible with our plan change and very thorough with contacts in the instance we had an issue. Overall our experience was excellent and we hope to return to this property multiple times in the future!
Our stay was very enjoyable. Lots of open space to spread out and enjoy the views. The home is very clean and comfortable, will definitely stay again.the amenities needed.tge
My sister and I came into town for a wedding. We knew we wanted 2 bedrooms and space to relax for a few days while we explored the OBX. This property was amazing. Large, exceptionally clean and appointed for small or large groups. The views are stunning from every vantage and there are two restaurants within walking distance. It was close enough to the wedding in Wanchese and the horses in Corolla. Just a mile to beach access if you want to walk or drive. We will be coming back with our family and our kayaks! Thank you for sharing your home.
In an area that's surrounded by activity, the Sound Crab is an oasis in the middle. You can bike or drive to beaches, restaurants or every conceivable activity, and come back to quiet and natural beauty. My favorite vacation place since 1998.
Beautiful house in a great location. The deck space on both levels is amazing and I love that you can access it from every bedroom. A very peaceful setting with beautiful views of the sunset over the water. The pictures do not fully prepare you for how amazing this house is!
We had a great time during our stay. The house is nice, clean and the view cannot be beat! We've stayed in OBX numerous times and this has been our favorite house by far. It was everything we expected and then some. Thank you David for sharing your home with us!
This property was perfect for our extended family. Our 2 kids, their spouses, and 2 grandchildren stayed comfortably at this home. The property was clean, quiet, yet easily accessible to everything that we needed. The home was well equipped with household items. Dave was very accommodating and even stopped by to see if things were to our satisfaction. Loved it!
We really enjoyed this property and have stayed at a few different homes in Kill Devil Hills over the last decade. There are updates not photographed yet, but it is obvious this property has been taken care of and the owner is easy to reach and helpful.
The property was beautiful the house was spacious and well maintained and very comfortable. The peir was probably my favorite part it was so peaceful to sit and have my coffee or a drink and watch the sun set or the osprey fishing in the morning. Staying here made our vacation that much more enjoyable and we would definitely stay here again if we ever visit the area again. Also the host was very easy to work with
The Sound Crab was even better than expected! The pictures do not do this property justice. Our group of 4 adults had plenty of space to share. The neighborhood the house is located in is very quiet and there is a walking path from the house that connects to the Wright Brother’s museum. The private pier and gondola was great to fish from and enjoy the peace and quiet. We hadn’t even left yet and already started planning our next trip to stay at the Sound Crab again. The owner David was extremely helpful and responsive. Thank you so much for the memories!
David was so gracious to us. I brought my 86 year old parents for a short mini vacation. Our only regret was that we didn't have time for a few more days. We loved the area, the house, and everything. The sunsets from the back porch were splendid. I took so many pictures. I wanted to capture all the memories. Thank you Dave! Your house was one of the best we have ever stayed in.
Overall a very nice clean place to stay with a great location. Only issue we really had was all the stairs with my elderly mother and no security gates available for my 11 month old. Thanks for letting us stay at your beautiful home.
The house was great! Cleaned and just as described! Had an issue with the power in one room not wanting to stay on. The maintenance guy and his wife came out right away to fix it and we had no other issues! Will definitely try to stay here again!
We really enjoyed our stay at Sound Crab. It had all of the amenities we needed and more. The view was spectacular especially at sunset. We will definitely be coming back. The photo do not do the place justice. It is better than the photos.
The house was located in a quiet neighborhood on the water. It was far enough from the main road to enjoythequiet, yet close enough to have easy access to everything. Sitting out on the deck and watching the sunrise and set everyday was the highlight of a peaceful stay.

Why they chose this property
I built this property in 1991 when there were virtually no properties on the sound at that time. It sits on a wooded lot and has 'moderate" seclusion which is highly unusual at the beach... Bicycle/walking path has proved immensely popular since its inception. Dock with screened gazebo offers privacy. Two screened porches (one on each level). Linens and Canoe/kayaks/paddle boards/bicycles available FOR RENT through caretaker at below market prices.
What makes this property unique
The property is Mile Post 7.5 then directly back to the sound (bay). It is approximately 9/10 mile from the beach road which has restaurants and retail. There is a walkway (bike trail) directly in front of the house that runs to the beach which is also about 9/10 mile. At the end of the trail is a beach access which is the main Kill Devil Hills access with a large parking lot and rest rooms with changing area with outdoor shower.
