** Please be aware that check in is no later than 6pm.
If your flight lands after 12:30pm then we advise against trying to get to us the same day you fly in. We are 3.5-4 hours from San Jose. You need to also allow for an hour at customs and immigration, and an hour at the car rental agency, making for a long day. It does get dark at 6pm, and if it is your first time to Costa Rica it’s best to drive in daylight hours only. We will gladly recommend accommodations nearby the airport.**

*A 4x4 vehicle is required for your stay. Our community roads are well maintained and easy to navigate, but they are dirt roads, and some parts are steep.

Perfect location and design, great communication, and lots of wildlife!

We had the perfect vacation.  The location, layout, decoration, and amenities of the house, along with the wildlife so close (our wildlife list from hiking the loop next to the house and/or just sitting on our porch included:  monkeys, a sloth, toucans, great curassow, opossums and I swear a jaguarundi (although it was probably just a black coati....) ] Andrew provided detailed directions and consistent communication throughout our trip.  It was especially helpful that he met us at the property when we arrived to give us a tour and answer any questions we had. We would happily stay at the Funky Jungalow again!

Absolutely Fantastic!!

Can't say enough positive things about this bungalow and its caretakers. They were present on arrival and hospitable. Property is immaculate! Fruit trees everywhere. Inside very clean. It is stocked with everything you need! Amenities included, laundry soap, dish soap, towels-and plenty, cook wear, pitchers for drink, coffee maker, toaster, and blender for more fruity drinks, and microwave!! Don't take a thing except sunblock, and there may even be some left from last guests, as there was a small supply left for us, I left mine behind as well. Don't let the lack of air conditioning bother you! It was very comfortable in the eve and morning. I think it will be a bit warmer in the day with sun shining in... but we were gone to the beaches and jungle during that time. Water pressure great, adequate hot water.. if you need it. Water tastes fabulous, buy a few bottles of water and then refill everyday for the beach and exploring. The night sounds are amazing, and make you want to go out and explore the night jungle life. Very safe. Do your shopping in Quepos, there are a few small grocery shops in the area but they are not great... only for immediate needs. We had the best Empanadas in Uvita, it is a small restaurant on the right side of the road. Dominical is a very relaxed and..young crowd. The beach is not a swimming beach or sunbathing beach... good mainly for surfing. Go to Quepos for beach bumming. Tortilla Flats in Dominical is fantastic, great food, great price and convenient to the beach. Park where you want in the town, but lock up and don't leave anything in site. I never felt unsafe... and i think that this area is very trustworthy, but there are transient people passing through, so don't take a chance. The road to the bungalow off the highway is dirt, steep and loose gravel in areas. Do not try it in a small car. We could only get a very small suzuki.... it did ok, it was scary, but it did ok, we are used to driving on these conditions with ATV's... and we drove the road, slowly and in 1st or 2nd gear!!! Get a 4x4 ahead of time for piece of mind! In the small car it was comparable to a roller coaster! Also the main areas you will want to visit are paved but steep and curvy. I hope this helps anyone who would like to stay in this area. Oh, the bungalow will easily accommodate 3 couples, or large family, there is an upstairs area that you could easily put a blow up mattress in for a 3rd bedroom. Thank you for sharing this great place.

About the host

Hosted by Andrew Davis

Host profile image
My husband Andrew and I are proud to share our home with you.
We enjoy hikes and camping.
Waterfalls and biking.
Beachcombing and kayaking.
Photography, painting, and laughing are daily recurring events.
Andrew loves bird-watching, and Kaitlin loves cooking.

The salt water on our skin, the sun rays that warm you and give you a healthy glow, the refreshing cool down afterwards at the waterfall, the birds that sing, the fresh fruits, the goodies from the local organic market, the friendly locals, and the comfort of our home definitely makes us feel like we are in paradise.

Every day we still learn new things from the locals. About plants, which ones are good for you, and which to look out for. Same with the fauna, we get excited whenever we find a new species of insect or animal in our neighborhood. Trying all the local fruits, the ‘Tico’ cuisine, their customs. Their language. The Pura Vida life! And then to share the newfound knowledge and excitement with our guests.

Star gazing is another hobby of ours. And the beauty is, all we have to do is pull our chairs out to the lawn and look up. Paired with a glass of wine and a tiki torch makes for a relaxing evening.

What makes us happy, is making people happy.
We love exploring, and have many more destinations on our travel bucket list. Hikes to Macchu Pichu, The Appalachian Trail, and Santiago de Compostela are on top. But for now we indulge in Costa Rica. The Costa Ballena in particular. And we love it, and love to share it!

To help our guests understand our beautiful area that we are in, we have created a booking and info service named Costa Concierge. On our site you’ll find all there is to do, see, and eat in the Costa Ballena.

To really feel at home can make memories that stay with you for a long time. We hope you feel at home at our place!

We do what we love... and we love what we do!
