About this property

Au Bord de la Rivière, Charming gîte with private

Welcome to our tranquil gite that is part of an old Octroi (French official building constructed in 1830). It is located right on the Lot river, on a pedestrian walk that leads to the centre of a lively and charming town called St. Geniez d'Olt. This beautiful French village is alive with shops, concerts, restaurants and festivals throughout the spring and summer months. So many activities to partake in, from horse-back riding and canoeing, to aerial circus arts and riverside walks...concerts and night markets and so much more, all within walking distance. Fall and winter it still remains a beautiful and tranquil repose with restaurants and leisurely forest walks, and it is only 20 minutes to the ski station in Brameloup. As well, St. Geniez has a new pedestrian walkway which links it to the nearby village of St. Eulalie d'Olt (1km), officially labelled ''One of the most Beautiful Villages in France''. Visiting St. Eulalie d'Olt is like stepping back in time - to seep in the beauty and history of an ancient rural village in France. Art is important here, and there are many workshops and artisans to visit.

Enter Gite L'Octroi at the side of the main building, into the private garden, where you hear the tinkling sound of the stream gently rushing through the rocks, alongside the walled garden of the gite. Here, the vine covered terrace with flower garden greets you. Sliding glass doors reveal an open living room and superbly fitted kitchen. A charming woodburning stove is in the living room for romantic inspirations or warming chilly nights. A flat screen TV with internet access, wifi, and smartTV are at your use for contemporary entertainment. A stairway leads up to the cosy mezzanine bedroom.
The master bedroom is down the hall, with a voluptuous antique French double bed. It has whimsical, yet very practical mosquito curtains surrounding the bed. A large bathroom with walk in shower, sink, antique commode and washing machine serves the gite. There is a separate toliet room. The charming furnishings, a mix of contempory and antiques reflect a typical French country style.

The lovely, terrace outside has a table for al fresco dining. A bbq is at the ready for enjoying lovely French foods and in particular, the French Aubrac beef, well known throughout France. This is Aubrac country.

Quiet nights in the garden, or lively evenings in town, Gite L'Octroi hopes to offer a traquil and enjoyable vacation for all who come to stay...a home away from home. .

About the host

I am Canadian, and my husband is French. We have travelled the world but have always called this town our little piece of paradise. We are both working professionals, and one of my activities is the circus arts...aerial dance. We are opening a aerial dance studio on site. We have two young children and two Irish Wolfhounds.

Why they chose this property

Since he was a young man, my husband had always dreamed of moving to Aveyron, and when we travelled through the region of Aveyron on our honeymoon- it became a joint desire. We fell in love with this town in 2007 and have been calling it our home ever since, even if we have lived in other countries since then. St. Geniez d'Olt has always been our base, and our dream...and now we live here permanently.

What makes this property unique

We love the character of this property. It was built in 1830, and is made of stone and solid wood beams. It has a history, and we love houses with character and charm. The location of this property is ideal, as it lies right on the edge of the river. It is a short, and charming walk to town. Close enough to enjoy all the offerings, but far enough to retain the peace and quiet. Life on the river is so calming, and so enjoyable...the nature, the life of the village and the surrounding forest walks makes it ideal to us in every way possible.
