Jackie and her staff were amazing. Michele met us at the dock, took us to the property, and gave us some insightful information about grabbing groceries, must do activities, and how to get around while on the island. They also kept us informed about the times of potential power outages so that we could plan ahead. Our favorite thing about the property is the spacious patio. We enjoyed our time eating breakfast and late dinners on the patio. The view is incredible. As stated in the listing, this property does not have air conditioning. While many reviews stated this was not a problem, be aware that while the morning and evening hours are comfortable, it was very hot during the hours from 2 PM to 6:30 PM in our opinion. This is especially true if there is a power outage during this time that prevents the fans from working. The proximity of this house to Cruz Bay is amazing. We did not rent a car during our stay, but found it very easy to catch a taxi from Mongoose Junction to anywhere we wanted to go. Be aware that if you don't have a vehicle while on the island, the climb from Mongoose Junction to the property is quite steep. It was doable for us, but steep. We look forward to working with Jackie and Michele again during our next stay.
We loved Guavaberry Hill. Was perfect for our family of four. Enjoyed the mildly challenging but short walk into town for meals. The view from the patio was fantastic. Finally, the easy drive to many beaches in the National Park made for a memorable family vacation.
I will start with Jackie the property manager met us at the ferry and brought us to the house. Thank god because walking up the hill with our luggage wiuld have been hell since we didnt get in until well after dark. The house was in a great location and easy access to hop o. The road to head to
We really enjoyed our stay. The place was clean and well stocked. Everything is walking distance but we were glad to have a rental car as it is a very steep walk and it was still very hot while we were there.
It was nice to have Jackie meet us at the ferry and give us a ride to the place.
I was a little concerned about not having any A/C for sleeping at night but I found having a few of the big fans running and aimed right at the bed kept me cool and comfortable enough.
Overall I thought it was a great location and a very nice place!
Fabulous villa with great location, property manager, and view!!!
Villa was so convenient to Cruz Bay shopping, restaurants, and beaches!
One suggestion would be portable cooling/ window units in bedrooms. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!
If you love heat and humidity then this place is for you. I had expressed my concerns about not having air-conditioning and was rest assured it would be very cool because we were up on a hill. Well not the case. It was so unbearably hot we hardly ever stayed at the house. We couldn't even have dinner there because it was so stifling hot. There was no breeze that they assured me would keep the place cool and we had no worries. ALSO THEY HAD LEFT A VASE OF FRESH FLOWERS FOR US WHEN WE ARRIVED AND BY THE END OF THE WEEK IT HAD MOSQUITO LARVAE SWIMMING IN IT!!!! that is how humid and hot it was. The house was nice but we couldnt even enjoy it because of it being so hot and humid in it. They did leave us nice snacks upon arrival and had some good beach equipment to use so that was nice. It is on a long uphill driveway so be careful. The location was also nice because it was central to alot of activities. I will be beck to St. John but never back to this house. I feel extremely disappointed that my vacation was dampered by being mis-lead about how nice this house would be with lack of AC. And i really find it hard to believe we were the only people to have a major concern with this. Getting dressed in front of a fan and sleeping with two fans on you is no fun at all.
Guavaberry Hill is perfect! This was our first visit to St. John and we are already making plans for our next trip.
Our evenings were spent walking down the (steep) driveway to Mongoose Junction for beers at St. John Brewing & takeout to eat on our deck overlooking beautiful Cruz Bay and enjoying the amazing sunset.
The beds were very welcoming after long days of exploring the nearby beaches, snorkeling with the sea turtles, and hiking the many trails. I especially enjoyed waking up to the birds chirping each morning. Jackie was very easy to communicate with throughout our stay from booking to check out.
Highly recommend the grouper burrito from Margarita Phil's and the spicy mahi wrap from Banana Deck! Definitely make time to grab a "World Famous Painkiller" from Coco Jim's and check out the view from the deck of the Windmill Bar.
My wife, 17 yr old daughter & I had a fantastic spring break at Guavaberry Hill. We loved the easy access to both the beautiful St. John beaches & Cruz Bay's relaxed island vibe nightlife. The property was just as pictured with the lone exception being that the sunset views far exceeded anything in the photos! We loved hiking, snorkeling & basking on the beach then returning for a quick shower & drinks to wind down the day. We alternating enjoying sunsets over home grilled meals on the deck, and from beach front restaurants in Cruz Bay. Some key points for other guests:
1. Ideal location! The house feels secluded but sits just above town & can be quickly walked, though the return is steep. We typically drove down & parked free at Mongoose Junction shopping/dining center or near the National Park visitors center. Harbor front bars & restaurants are no more than an easy 5 min walk.
2. Cruz Bay has an abundance of options for shopping, drinking & dining. There are many choices just a couple hundred yards from the house in the stylish Mongoose Junction development, as well as along the nearby harbor waterfront.
3. Staying on St John allowed us to enjoy the world famous north shore beaches, but also explore the national park, historical spots & remote beaches.
4. The layout was great with the second bedroom being across the deck from the main house, providing appreciated privacy for our daughter & us!
5. Host communication, check in/out was great!
6. Would absolutely rent again!!
We've stayed at this property several times and it always is the perfect stay. Sunsets on thedeck are memorable. The bedrooms afford plenty of privacy. We love the Carribean atmosphere of the house.
We had the pleasure of staying at this lovely location for 10 nights in August 2023. The home is secluded, with amazing sunset views, easy access to Mongoose Junction for St. John Scoops (smells amazing when they make their waffle cones), or for great places to eat such as North Shore Deli, Sundog Cafe, Greengos and more as well as places to shop or pick up snorkel gear. Or a short walk to the ferry dock for a meal at High Tide right on the beach and more shopping opportunities. Don’t forget to check out Uncle Joe’s Bbq but go early as they sell out quickly!
Jackie was so amazing and helpful to us, it was so nice to have some refreshments waiting for us on our arrival. Everything we could need was at the home and in good condition.
We honeymooned on St. John years ago and this was the perfect location to bring our kids with us and explore the island together.
My Mom, sister, and I absolutely loved staying here. The house is peaceful and beautiful with views of the bay, surrounded by foliage. St John is amazing and we enjoyed exploring it, but we also really loved just hanging out at the house. It feels very private while at the same time being conveniently located close to town. We did not have a car for most of the trip and quite enjoyed the walk up and down the hill. It's a hike to be sure. Not having AC was not a problem; we felt the ceiling fans and floor fans did the trick. Booking was super easy and Jackie was a great starting reference point and introduction to the island. We really appreciated staying here. Thank you!
What a beautiful private escape! Just a five minute walk (the return trip isn’t for the feeble😓) to all the restaurants and shops in Cruz Bay, yet all the privacy and serenity you could ask for. What a great location with a fabulous view of the bay. Jackie (the property manager) couldn’t have been more responsive to our questions and provided all the information we needed in preparation for our trip. If we ever travel to St John in the future, we will certainly attempt to stay at this property again. Definitely a “peace” of heaven!
A Heavenly Retreat with Stunning Sunsets on St. John Island!
My family and I had an unforgettable stay at this beautiful house on St. John Island! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the most breathtaking view, which treated us to awe-inspiring sunsets every evening. It was like living in a postcard! Our host met us as soon as we arrived and showed us everything we needed know. Throughout our stay, our host was very attentive and available.
The cozy ambiance of the house was the perfect to the island's serene atmosphere. The well-thought-out layout and thoughtful decor made us feel right at home. Not to mention, the house was incredibly well-equipped with everything we could possibly need during our stay.
The location of the property was perfect for us. Tucked away in Cruz Bay, it offered just the right amount of seclusion, yet it was still conveniently close to local amenities and attractions. We could easily explore the island, try out different restaurants, and indulge in a variety of activities during the day. The beaches are around the corner.
Highly recommend this property! We will definitely be back!
Guavaberry Hill is spacious and has beautiful sunset views. The location is convenient for Cruz Bay and to the National Park. Jackie was a delight to work with when we booked and checking in.
Our stay Guavaberry Hill was quite simply perfect for us. We found the location, beautiful property, and amazing views just lovely. We immediately booked the property again for next year….but for longer!
Property has a great location with a beautiful view of Cruz bay. Very clean. Bed in main house very comfortable. Has everything you need for a lovely stay. Recommend this property to anyone visiting St. John.
What a gem! We loved our place. It was perfect for a family and location was ideal. We walked to our favorite beach, Honeymoon beach and walked to town for dinners, ice cream, and drinks. The view was spectacular and sunsets were beautiful. I would highly recommend!
Guava berry Hill is exactly as advertised. The view of Cruz Bay is breathtaking both day and night. It was the perfect location for ease of visiting the beaches daily and Cruz Bay.
I think this is the best deal in St. John. Perfect sunset views, easy access to town, and a comfortable, spacious home complete with everything you would need to take to the beach!
House is perfectly situated to wake up to a fantastic view of Cruz Bay. We had coffee and watched to boats in the morning and had drinks while watching boats and harbor activities. It is a quick walk down Mongoose junction and the local stores and restaurants. (The hike back up the hill was not as fast, but was still doable.)
Communication and check-in was easy. We were given great references for activities and dining. Arranging grocery delivery before arrival was a bonus that made it really easy to start our vacation. They had many chairs, coolers, and towels available so it was easy to pack up and head to one of the beaches or on a trail hike.
This was our favorite spot by far in Cruz Bay, the property was gorgeous & the management team is top notch. If you’re looking for a place to share with adults or a family this is your spot! We look forward to staying here again!
