About this property

Diamond A Cattle Tourist Cabin

Our 1940s tourist cabin has been recently remodeled. There is a full-sized bed in one bedroom and a twin sized bed in the other bedroom. The small bathroom with a shower has just been updated with beautiful new tile. An equipped small kitchen has a full-sized refrigerator and an apartment sized stove. We can grocery shop for you if you would like and have your groceries (and the bill) waiting for you when you arrive. We have access to farm fresh eggs.
You will have only 1 1/2 miles of gravel to travel on to get to our ranch.
We offer tours of our ranch. On the ranch is the original 1906 Homestead Shanty that was built for the Ashley Brothers. The shanty holds three pieces of original furniture along with other period furniture. The shanty was occupied until 1956.
A one room rural schoolhouse built in 1905 sits next to the tourist cabin. Desks, books, maps, a wood burning stove offer an opportunity to play act and pretend you are either the teacher in the school or the dunce. One corner inside the schoolhouse has a voting booth and the original voting box.
We have a camp store that is open all the time. Cowgirl necklaces made by our real cowgirl and cowboy grandkids. Chokecherry jelly. Dill pickles, Bad River Beef Jerky, Pemmican and Summer Sausage. (Pemmican is what the Native Americans made with ground buffalo, antelope or deer and nuts and fruits).
We now have a Free Library so you can pick a book, read it at the Diamond A Ranch or take it with you on your travels. When you are done with the book, you can find another Free Library and return it there. Near the Free Library is a "Take a Stick, Leave a Stick" Library for dogs.
Diamond A Cattle Company has both an indoor and an outdoor roping / rodeo arena. Events held at the arenas are barrel racing, bull riding, team penning, team roping and Cowboy Mounted Shooting.
Corriente cattle used for team roping, steer wrestling and bull riding are raised on the Diamond A Cattle Co. We will show off our cattle on our ranch tour.
If you are traveling in your own RV, we have electrical hookups located next to the cabin. We charge $25 per hookup.
Diamond A Cattle Company offers overnight stabling for your horses. Your horses can spend the night in our outdoor arena or in smaller pens inside or outside. We charge $20 per horse per night.
We are only 17 miles from the Missouri River. We can offer suggestions for dining and touring.

This was such a fun and unique property. Crystal was super helpful and met us when we pulled in to give a quick explanation of the property. We wish we could have stayed longer to explore a bit more, will definitely be back when we come out west!

This little cabin is as authentic as it gets. As retired teachers, we loved having access to the little schoolhouse next door to the cabin. The history provided was very interesting. Crystal offered to show us other areas of the ranch but we were already on the road. The stars at night were phenomenal. Thank you!

Cowboy cabin

We had a problem when we got there. The door was supposed to be open but it wasn't. My husband finally found a key on an outside light. The cabin was clean, the air was on so that was great. I loved the decor and the extra fans. Camp store was fun. Loved the history and my husband got a kick out of Bob the cat and the dog.

Unique country get away

It was the first property that came up on the site and by God‘s design it was just what was needed for our souls! Everything we needed: peaceful, quaint, the cat and his royal set up hilarious, the dog is super laid back, great bathhouse and camp store for fun treasures, and the school house an awesome treat from history. We had great communication with the host. It’s a gem off of the interstate. We also ate at the buzzards bar and grill in Pukwana. The burgers and potatoes were excellent. Super staff they even got the town mechanic to help with my vehicle. Thanks for the hospitality and the adventure!!! God bless you all.

Quaint cottage

Amazing little hideaway and harvest host spot! Clean comfortable! So quiet! If on motorcycle go as low on gravel road and pick up food before, or you have to head into Chamberlein. If camping she has an on-site camp store. Kitchen is stocked to self cook, fridge and stove. No microwave. Check out the historic school house on property. Check out Dignity statue nearby.

Quirky Doesn't Do It Justice

The owners could not be blamed for the rain that day, nor the mud that filled almost every inch of the parking area (I can't speak for the people who got stuck). The cabin was open, and we appreciated the strong workout to get the door open after sitting in the car so long. Fortunately the rain helped to cool us as we worked. It was charming how we asked about the wifi password and the nice gentleman had no idea what that was (he thought it was 'some Native American thing"). There were plenty of mouse traps to keep the rodents away and cleanser so we could clean the durty sink - very thoughtful! No mirror or hooks in the bathroom but never fear - you can use the medicine cabinet door to hang your towel. As budding entemologists we were fascinated by the swarms of ants on all the windows - we were so excited by finding them we could hardly sleep! An extra thoughtful touch was the bottle used as a spitoon by the previous tenet was left beside the bed with still plenty of space in it. We unfortunately couldn't stay long enough to make breakfast. The fridge was spotless.

Crystal and Tucker were delightful to bs with about their property and the interesting things they had done with their indoor arena and stock throughout the years! The tourist cabin was the perfect size for us (2 adults and a pup). The kitchen is small but still perfect size, and had all the amenities you would need. The bathroom/shower was very clean and good hot water! The bed was comfortable also. Thanks again Crystal for being so helpful and accommodating with questions I had or things we needed!

I called the office 2 days before hand to let them know we'd be coming in late. That worked well. The host greeted us. We loved the full kitchen and shower. It was a cool small house and very quiet. The school house next to it was neat to see. They also have a camp store which was unexpected. Will stay again for sure.

Communication from the host was fantastic. The cabin was warm and welcoming upon arrival. We loved seeing the animals, too. It was fun to check out the old school house right next to the cabin. This is a unique treasure in SD. We would definitely stay again.
