We have stayed the last 2 years at this house. It is absolutely a beautiful place to stay. We love it everytime we come to Dauphin Island. We handle everything online never have a issue.
This is our second year staying at Pelican Bay. We love the location and the house meets our needs. We were better prepared this year for the lack of toilet paper and paper towels. The only trouble we had was check-in, as the VRBO email did not include the info about going to the office to get the keys and the code for after hours pickup. We stayed with another couple and their child and Pelican Bay did not disappoint.
Our stay was peaceful and pleasant. We were in the area for my father’s memorial service and we enjoyed our stay in the beach house with lots of amenities.
The property was absolutely perfect. Everything was exactly as described. Lots of comfortable couches and chairs, and the kitchen was well-stocked with every possible pot, pan, and utensil you could possibly need. Beds were a bit on the firm side, but we quickly got used to them.
As for the location, the beach is located down a very short path (maybe 100 feet at the most). You're going to want to wear flip-flops because there are burs that could poke your feet as you walk down the path. The beach itself is quiet and uncrowded.
Were there any negatives? Not really. If you need blazing fast Internet, well, you not going to get over 8 mb/s, but this is a small island, so it's just how things are. It's plenty fast enough to do most things, and you're on vacation, so put your phone down and enjoy the island.
Communication from the rental company was excellent. Watch your e-mail after you book because there's a rental agreement you'll need to sign and return. When you arrive on the island, you stop by their office and get your keys. We were getting there after they closed, but they left everything in a lockbox at their office. Checkout was just as easy. We were leaving before they opened, but they have a key return slot.
If you've never been to Dauphin Island, keep in mind that you're going to want to pick up groceries on the mainland, and the rental company will send you directions to a Walmart and a smaller supermarket where you can shop before you leave the mainland. There's a store on the island with groceries, but it's very expensive, so you definitely want to shop on the mainland.
We had a great time and would definitely rent this house again.
The street was very quiet, very close to the Audubon forest, close to the main bridge. The pictures on the listing didn’t do this place justice! It was better than expected. The listing was also very vague about community beach access which happened to be across the cul de sac! That was great. The house is in a gated community and you only get two badges to get in. So if you come with more than two cars you may need to go back and forth to the main gate to open it. Overall we had a Great stay. The living room /dinning room/ kitchen area was open, bright and great to catch up and relax.
This rental more than met my expectations. The house is beautiful and in a nice quiet neighborhood. The beach is easy and quick to get to. I will definitely rent again!!
I did really love the house! I thought the layout was good, and it was really well kept. There are some things I would change, the organization of the drawers and cabinets was chaotic, but it's vacation. Prepare yourself if you have a group going that you legit get 2 small rolls of toilet paper and 1 roll of paper towels! I was glad I brought my kitchen tools like my non-stick skillets and scrapers. I also brought trash bags, laundry soap, and dish soap. The walk wasn't so bad to the beach, there are LOTS of sandburrs BE CAREFUL! If you are staying and beaching bumming like we did I would highly suggest pulling the hose through the lower concrete and wash down there by reaching through the lattice! It will help keep the sand to minimal! I love the beach in this location and we will hopefully go back! Our only drawback for this is the view of the gulf is obscured by the trees and we would like a better view. I loved being in a house vs. condo!
Pelican Bay Landing is huge! Quite enough room for everyone to spread out. A very well stocked kitchen! Very close to the beach. Small beach with few houses on it so it’s very quiet. The only complaint is the beds are hard, so if you need soft beds to sleep on bring a mattress pad!
Booking process and communication with the management company was good. The house is in a private quiet community. The distance to the beach was less than I thought from reading previous reviews! There is a sandy path you walk down right from the driveway. We loved sitting on the covered patio and enjoying the ocean views and breeze. The house layout was great and wide open yet the rooms were all nice and private. Kitchen had everything we would have needed. The only negatives I would say are - the beds were not very comfortable and there were no beach chairs :(. Tons of toys and floaties for the kids to take down to the water. The beach is beautiful and quiet. We loved DI. If you’re planning on going rent a golf cart - so fun - and plan to eat meals at home. There are only a few restaurants on the island.
We loved this house! Spacious and great for our family, easy walk to the beach, beautiful outdoor porch, and love the gated neighborhood. The house was clean and the kitchen well stocked. As a tip - bring all household supplies and beach supplies - including coffee filters,
We wanted to get away before school started. This property offered us that opportunity.
Things to note about the property. It is in a quiet gated area yards from the beach. There is a condo development next door, separated by a fence. Thankfully the noise from the condo guests was not loud.
The bed in the master was a rock to sleep on. The rest seemed a little more forgiving. My wife and I are spoiled by our memory foam bed.
There was zero internet or wifi. The property owners offered cellular hot spots. We didn't take them up. We have Verizon and the cell service was 1 to 2 bars. Since we were escaping this wasn't an issue. Just something to be aware of.
Im assuming that due to COVID19 we were not prepared for all the extra supplies that you will need to consider to bring on your trip. Salt, pepper, trash bags, hand soap, toilet paper, coffee filters, etc. There were two trash bags at the house. But 6 people for four days with no recycling options went through those quickly. We just went to the on island convenience store and purchased what we needed and problem solved. We did not bother calling the property management. We were thankfully for the space.
We loved this house! It exceeded our expectations. The set up of the home was great. One queen bedroom and one 2 twin bedroom with a bath in between on one side of the home was separated by the main living area and allowed more privacy to everyone. The other two queen bedrooms were on the other side of the house with a connecting bathroom. Many kitchen wares were included. The only addition I would make is a 4 slice toaster instead of a toaster oven. With children wanting to eat at once, it would just be a little quicker and more convenient, especially if you were cooking something else in the toaster oven. There was an over abundance of cutlery, dishes, cooking utensils, appliances, pots and pans, etc.
The front porch facing the ocean side was awesome. A nice breeze made it very comfortable to sit outside. The back porch was great for drying towels but it was too hot to sit outside with no shaded area.
The wagon to take things to and from the beach was a life saver. Thank you!
This home in a gated community was on a culdesac and allowed privacy and access to a private beach so distancing was very easy to do. We went 6 of the 7 days we were there and it was awesome!
The Bird sanctuary trail was nice as was the scooter/skate park that was not too far away. The bike path on the main road made it nice to get about that way and our children and grandchildren used it a great deal.
We found that the store at the water tower on the island is well stocked and would have had everything we needed for food and we would not have had to go off island. Greer’s grocery (20 miles or so) had everything we needed but we could have shopped on island and skipped that trip.
The living room furniture was adequate and the room was spacious. The two tables were great. We used the rectangle one that seated 8 for our meals and the other round one for game and art projects with the children. We did find that the DVD player did not accept blue ray.
If we returned to the island. We would definitely stay here again.
Great house that met all our needs. Easy access to the beach and nice views from the house . We were not expecting the variety and quantity of kitchen wares.
