We feel so lucky to have stayed at Casa Das Dias. The house is gorgeous and we don’t think it’s possible to find a better location on Sao Miguel. The house is poised right at an overlook so there are spectacular views of the ocean and a staircase leading down to what feels like a private beach is just a few feet from the front door. You can see (and hear!) the ocean as you lie in bed, eat in the lovely kitchen and, best of all sit on the third floor deck which is an amazing spot to watch the waves and stare at the stars. We also LOVED staying in Villa Franco do Campo and strongly encourage everyone to do so. It has all the old world charm of the other towns on the island, but it is much larger, has more restaurants and cafes, is not far from Porta Delgada (avoid!! Too touristy and commercial), Furnas, and many other locales. We were so charmed and fell in love with the town and had two very magical moments. One night, we passed a church just as churchgoers were leaving an evening service, all carrying candles to light their way home. And last night at just the perfect moment, we encountered a group of carolers whom we followed all thru the town, waving at the residents who opened their doors and windows to hear the lovely singing. I think you're guaranteed to have your own magical moments in this very special town. Herminio was a great host, very promptly answering any questions we had with much friendliness and helpfulness. Don't hesitate! This is a special place!
