About this property

Lychee room

Afro Caribbean decor. Excellent views from the balcony and entrance. Plenty of natural light but designed to stay dark if desired. Natural breeze coming through the room, but equipped with a bed side fan. All freshly painted and new. Be enchanted by the night sounds of nature and gently woke by singing birds. Sip on a coffee on your private porch overlooking the ocean and banana trees. We offer a verity of indulgences to choose from.

Things to remember:

- Ubers and taxis can be hard to find, make sure you plan your rides ahead of time. Having your own rental vehicle is advised.

- If you're a light sleeper, bring some earplugs.

- Mosquitoes are abundant especially during the rainy season. Bring bug spray.

- Critters and crawlies tend to sneak in even through the tiniest of holes so do not be surprised if you see one. We do not have any dangerous critters or crawlies living in the rainforest.

-Power and water outages are normal in the area especially during bad weather. We only have back-up power (solar) at the main house. We are in the process of getting more solar panels to power the entire property.

- Our dog Tootsie is a Rottweiler-Labrador mix. She's the biggest sweetheart but she can be a little mouthy sometimes. She's great with kids though! We also have plenty of cats, chickens, ducks and a turkey.

- There is a designated parking area. Make sure you leave space for other guests to park. We're in the process of renovating our parking area to accommodate more cars in the future.

- Wifi is only available in common areas.

All depends on what you are looking for
I loved the place! It could have been a bit cleaner, but over all I loved the stay. No a.c. which was fine for me. The nights were nice enough to not sweat at all, and it was the end of Aug. My friend really didn't care for it. So, if you need more than some of the most beautiful nature and scenery and basic necessities, it probably isn't for you. And the cats.... They are everywhere on the island, but extra cuddly here.

Cute and remote getaway!
The property was adorable and very relaxing. It DOES have hot water, despite a previous review. Only 15 minutes to beaches by car and 25 minutes to airport. Great place if you want a more relaxed, local feel. They are a cat rescue so if you don’t like cats this isn’t your spot. Very friendly turkey that loves to be pet and lots of baby chicks! Kid friendly with walking trails and a great view. Only suggestion would be more kitchen access. There’s a fridge to store food and drinks but limited on use of plates etc. overall a fantastic getaway and would definitely return! Everyone was very friendly!

Hidden Gem
The drive up may be a bit intimidating if you've little experience driving up hills and on narrow roads, but it's nothing worrying. Even if it was, it is completely worth it to stay at La Casa de Vida Natural. We stayed in the Lychee room which has its own compact bathroom w/shower and balcony. Rooftop access is nearby with a small table and an astounding view of Puerto Rico --mountains and beaches/ocean. There are free roaming cats, ducks, and chickens, but they're very friendly or just mine their own business. Everything was very clean and tidy, only remember to bring some bug spray for mosquitos in the evening (but even without they weren't too bad). We had a short one night stay, but it was wonderful and hosts very welcoming. We've already recommended this place to our friends and will remember to book here for future trips.

We only spent 1 night here
Not hard to find-- almost wish we hadn't! We understood there was no AC--but most places have adequate fans & breezes--not here. It was almost unbearable until several hours after sundown. (we are from the deep south & are very familiar with extreme heat & humidity) Also be aware there is NO HOT WATER!!!! Our assigned room did have an inside shower--but no internet as advertised! We were moved & were told the new room even had better ventilation in addition to wifi--both were extremely weak! The shower was outside down a sloping, crumbling path--no lighting, no shelf & again NO HOT WATER! Also FYI No TV. No Microwave (seems they are dangerous) You are allowed to use their outside fridge and there is coffee & tea available. I counted 12 cats, not 2 as in the description, who were allowed everywhere--chairs, the table we were eating our supper at & even in the narrow, dark pathway to our room. Poop everywhere! Even if you love cats (we have 2 at home) this was crazy. The other animals were less intrusive, yet they all wander and leave lots of poop (chickens, ducks, large dog). There is also a collection of old & dirty children's toys in the yard & patio. The on-site employee, Eunice was very friendly & as helpful as she could be. It seems at one time in the 80s this was intended to be some type of all natural "unplugged" yoga spa & wellness retreat---but that is not what it is now. The off-site owner & her local business partner don't seem to have any concern for the modern day comfort of their guests. (especially Hot water) The entire facility seemed tired & in need of a face-lift. If you enjoy primitive camping this is the place for you.

Small farm overlooking rainforest!
Accommodations spotlessly clean and exactly as in pictures, very relaxing location in mountains near El Yonque. Very private and unique basic room with chickens and a cat or two roaming around. Owners very non obtrusive yet leave contact info should you need anything. We are looking forward to returning next time we are in Puerto Rico, it's less than 30 minute drive from SJU. Also best barbecue on island 5 minutes away as you turn off main road from San Juan. Highly recommend!
