We are proudly a true VRBO'er, the most important part being By Owner. That means we offer the attention to detail, cleanliness, and amenities that you would expect from owners who are intimately and directly involved with the care and management of their cabin. It also means we have another life! and are NOT on duty 24/7 (except for emergencies of course).
We are giving you our best, and we expect your best in return. We do not care to be treated like the Economy Inn. We hope you can tell the difference and treat us accordingly. We are not your best option for bargain hunters, but do provide one of the best values available for quality of your intimate mountain vacation experience.
The most consistent reaction we have from guests, family and friends is that Wagon Wheel Ridge is far more beautiful than they expected. Pictures don’t do it justice. Beautiful, private setting. Beautifully landscaped and decorated. There is something for both him and her. She will appreciate the tasteful and well-appointed rooms. He will appreciate the hint of cowboy and farm (We “just said no” to the moose & bear motif.) Both will appreciate the private, cozy, quiet, natural setting. You will simply enjoy! WWR is fun, relaxing, beautiful, serene, exciting, peaceful, private. It is close to nature, quaint, cozy, comforting. There is a warmth that is hard to put into words, that you cant see in pictures.
Wagon Wheel Ridge is a little bit country, a little bit western. Its got a touch of cowboy and a hint of the farm. It has the feel of an elegant ranch line cabin tucked away in the hills. If you are looking for an extraordinary, peaceful, private and relaxing getaway, We'd love to have ya' drop by!
On vacation in the mountains…Its All About The HOT TUB and The View…and we’ve got more than just a hot tub. We have a Hot Tub Pavilion with its own relaxing, laid-back seating area perfect for gathering under the ceiling fan and chatting with your friends in the tub. The tub itself is a 6 seat Gulf Coast Spa LX5000 with lights, waterfall, and aromatherapy. And...drum roll please...we positioned the hot tub and raised it off the ground so you can enjoy the mountain view from the tub...you can truly soak it all in.
Do you want a getaway that sticks with you for weeks. A vacation experience you cant help but tell your family and friends about? This is the place. Right here. Enjoy a week or a weekend - grillin', chillin', hiking, biking, kayaking. Or just snuggle in watching your favorites - sports, movies, classic TV - or maybe some quiet time, catching up on some reading.
Downstairs we have a comfy-cozy Living Room, Media Room, and Dining Room area defined by custom-made, absolutely one-of-a-kind door and window trim. Look closely at the pictures from those rooms! The warm ambiance it creates is almost indescribable. If you like beautiful handmade artistry...it alone is worth coming to see. Also you will find hand-scraped solid oak floors throughout this area.
The Living Room has a large mountain-view picture window, wood-burning fireplace and loads of cowboy cool, which continues right on into the Media Room. There you can enjoy the game in sheer audio and visual pleasure on the Sony 40' HD LCD TV and 5.1 Sony Home Theatre System with Boston Acoustic speakers & subwoofer.
We provide Dish Network Satellite TV reception in the Media Room, both downstairs bedrooms and the Teen Loft. The Media Room and the Master Bedroom both have a HD TV, and all four TVs have recording capability to record your shows while you are out.
The kitchen has an enormous cast iron farm sink, beautiful custom made French country distressed finish cabinets with tear drop glass doors. Frigidaire electric range and ceramic stovetop, microwave, and dishwasher, a side-by-side Bosch refrigerator, and various small appliances for your convenience.
We have two beautifully decorated bedrooms and two cute-as-can-be bathrooms downstairs; then we have a darn nice teen loft with half-bath and one queen and one twin bed. Plus the loft has three built-in cushioned benches for lounging, though they are not setup for sleeping.
From the front porch you can see for miles. The view is sweetly framed by the split-rail cedar fence and the close-by trees, creating an effect that is hard to duplicate. Off one end of the front porch are stairs and a walkway that lead you to the Hot Tub Pavilion. At the other end of the front porch is the deck. The deck has a stainless steel propane gas grill for quick and easy grillin', plus a large square dining table (square makes it easy to talk & pass the groceries) and cushioned seating for eight. And that's not all ...another drum roll please...you can soak up a little mountain sun, touch up your tan, and get your Vitamin D!!! We've got two fully cushioned chaise lounges that face in just the right direction.
Outside, we have beautiful natural landscaping and a paved basketball court for the kids and/or adventuresome adults. We also have an outdoor fire-pit. We supply the wood - you supply the common sense and don't set the woods on fire.
Details matter, and we have put extra attention in appointments and furnishings, from the linens to the wall decor. For all beds we use Jamison Resort Foam 5-Star Mattresses and high thread count sheets. In both downstairs bedrooms we use extra plush 80 ounce luxury carpet and heavy padding. We even use Italian decorative iron with an embossed vineyard grain for the porch & deck pickets.
How do you get a mountain view - You gotta climb a hill. With over twenty years of rental guests coming and going on our hill, obviously this is not an issue for most folks. But for a few it is. Unlike so many of the privately owned roads out here in the country, we make sure ours is maintained regularly. Nevertheless, low-slung cars, overloaded/under-powered vehicles, and timid drivers are at a disadvantage driving any gravel hill. If you want to know more, please ask.
Wagon Wheel Ridge is only about 12 miles from Ellijay in Gilmer County, Georgia, the Apple Capital of Georgia. Ellijay is home to the Apple Festival held two weekends in October. There are Apple Houses along the highways with fresh and canned produce, gifts, baked goods, and other treats. Ellijay has numerous antique shops, art galleries, and restaurants. Wagon Wheel ridge is also convenient to Amicalola Falls, Dawsonville, Dahlonega, and Blue Ridge, each with their own attractions. Go antiquing to your heart's content or ride the scenic railway in Blue Ridge. Visit the North Georgia Premium Outlet stores & the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville. Pan for gold & shop antiques in Dahlonega. Yee Haw!

Loved the cabin and location! There was so much space but it was still super comfy and home-y. It was stocked with everything you could possibly need. My family had an amazing New Year’s Eve in the mountains.
My daughter and I were there for a short visit to explore the area. The home is very comfortable and has everything you could possibly need. Thank you for offering such a beautiful and comfortable home!
We enjoyed the cabin stay very much. The big porch with the rocking chairs provides fabulous views! We played basketball and relaxed in the hot tub (love the lighting!). We enjoyed long walks around the property and grilling out on the deck. The location is convenient to the apple orchards so we worked in a fun day picking apples. We couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable stay.
This place was beautiful and nice. My only suggestion is be prepared for a steep driveway with gravel. I couldn’t have asked for anything to be better. Thanks!
The beds were very comfortable. Everything about this place was absolutely cozy. The setup was perfectly thought-out. The kitchen was fully stocked down to a meat thermometer and baster for the turkey. Very clean.
The house is great, lots of room. We didn't use the upstairs loft but it was great for if you have kids with you. Hot tub overlooks the mountain view. The hardest part is the long dirt road, but worth it.
This property is amazing and just what we were looking for. Beautiful cabin with awesome views up in the mountains. The host was fantastic. Communication was excellent and very quick response time. We had no problems at all, which says a lot. Host even provided a live Christmas tree for us. Would definitely recommend this property and we will more than likely use again and again. A

NOT JUST A CABIN
This was place was QUALITY, attention to detail was off the charts. BEAWARE - the driveway is worse than people say it is and the manager plays it off. We saw where numerous people got stuck. BUT IF YOU ARE PREPARED for that - it is the best place we have ever stayed. Wish we could have stayed longer!!

The manager does not play anything off, but does take offense to the accusation. You did catch the hill in a bad way thanks to a large truck repeatedly stop-starting and struggling to drive up (not "numerous people got stuck"). When the hill/road gets torn up, weather-worn, or simply too bumpy, we are on it ASAP. With over 20yrs of rentals on our mountain, and all kinds of vehicles/drivers using the hill on a regular basis, with us of course always keeping an eye on it and regularly touching up the road (most of which is not even ours,) its fair to say "We got this" and are dern sure not playing at it. We can also say the existential warning here is quite a bit over the top. Just cause you get a rainy week at the beach, doesn't mean the next guy will. [To our future guests: There are "tricks" to driving a gravel hill without 4X4/AWD, so if you are concerned, just ask.]
We had the best time at your lovely cabin in the clouds! Fabulous sun rises and changing skies over a vista extending from Buzzard Roost to Springer mtn and beyond in either direction. Wild turkeys and pilieated woodpeckers and bunnies. A home thoughtfully designed to accommodate a family (or just two of us with our dogs). Clean and stocked enough, the kitchen has all the gear to cook for and feed everyone - I hosted my parents, bro fam and we all sat at one table for al fresco dining. Saw a rainbow one afternoon! Played basketball with my nephews! 10/10 would recommend, we would love to be back there again soon!
House was just as pictured. We enjoyed the view the best, sitting on the porch each morning with coffee. I would definitely come back but I’d highly recommend 4wheel drive. The road is rough, especially after rain. Would hate to have met a car coming down but otherwise the place was nice.

Blissful mountain stay
We absolutely loved this home. It’s perfectly secluded with all of the comforts you would need and stunning views. This is the perfect spot for ultimate relaxation. Drink local wine on the front porch in the rocking chairs, relax in the super clean jacuzzi, watch the lightning bugs dance around, do yoga on the front lawn... it is truly like hitting the “reset” button. Our 2 papillons (Stella and Ringo) loved it too. We will definitely be back. Overall wonderful experience.
What a great house with a gorgeous view. The owner has clearly gone out of his way to provide everything you need to relax with your family. Basketball was a hit with the kids. Dad even got in on the game. The porch was relaxing to sit and read and the hot tub was a perfect way to soak sore muscles after a long hike. Owner was even more than accommodating when we had a unforeseen problem on our arrival date. Our SUV did struggle getting up the mountain on rainy nights but otherwise was fine.

As they say and more!!
This "cabin" is more like a very comfortable modern mountain home with all the amenities. Situated on the side of the mountain w/ views to die for, this is the perfect place to rest and relax. The bed was comfy, place exceptionally clean and many extras provided. The outdoor hot tub with mountain view made it complete. We couldn't have been more pleased. The gravel road wasn't as difficult to maneuver with my Toyota Camry as I expected--made it right up with no problems. It was close enough to tourist attractions and hiking yet far enough to feel remote. Our only complaint was having to leave and return home to reality.
About the host
Hosted by Steve 2
We're a Georgia family who built Wagon Wheel Ridge over 20 years ago and still personally manage it ourselves. We're not a property management company, not a remote investor, not a hands-off owner. When you message us, you're talking to the people who chose every piece of furniture, planted the landscaping, picked the linens, and care about every guest who walks through the door. That's the difference between a cabin owned by people and one owned by a portfolio.
We respond to every inquiry personally, usually within an hour during the day. We screen guests carefully because we want the right fit for our cabin and for you. Once you're booked, we're available for emergencies and questions, but we also believe your vacation should be your vacation. We're not breathing down your neck.
Outside of hosting we enjoy the same things our guests do: time in the mountains, good food, family, and that uniquely Georgia mix of country charm and Southern hospitality. We hope you'll feel that when you stay with us.
Why they chose this property
The Cartecay River area of Gilmer County is one of North Georgia's hidden gems. We're 12 miles from Ellijay, the Apple Capital of Georgia, and conveniently between Blue Ridge, Dahlonega, and Dawsonville. From our hill you can see for miles across the Appalachian foothills, and the views change with every season — fresh green in spring, deep summer canopy, the famous October fire-color foliage that brings people from across the country, and a quiet beauty in winter that's hard to describe.
What we love about this specific spot is the combination of true privacy and easy access. You're far enough off the main road to hear nothing but birds and creek water, but you're 15 minutes from a great restaurant, antique shopping, the Apple Festival, scenic railway in Blue Ridge, gold panning in Dahlonega, and Amicalola Falls. The Cartecay River and Cartecay Vineyards are 5 minutes away.
This is mountain country the way it should feel — peaceful, real, and deeply Southern.
What makes this property unique
The Hot Tub Pavilion. That's the headline answer. Most cabins put a hot tub on a deck. We built a covered pavilion just for it, with its own seating area, a ceiling fan, lighting, and we raised the tub off the ground so you can soak with the full mountain view in front of you. It's a six-seat Gulf Coast Spa LX5000 with waterfall, lights, and aromatherapy. Once you've used it, you'll understand why we built it that way.
Beyond the hot tub: custom hand-scraped solid oak floors, custom door and window trim that's truly one of a kind, an enormous cast iron farm sink in the kitchen, French country cabinets, and a Sony 5.1 home theater system with Boston Acoustic speakers in the media room. The split-rail cedar fence frames the front porch view in a way that feels like a postcard.
We also have details a lot of cabins skip: Jamison Resort Foam mattresses, high thread count sheets, plush carpet in both downstairs bedrooms, a paved basketball court, a fire pit with firewood provided, and a propane grill. We don't do the moose-and-bear motif. WWR has a touch of cowboy and a hint of farm — an elegant ranch-line cabin tucked into the hills.
A little bit country, a little bit western. Most importantly, owned and managed by people who love this place and want you to love it too.
