About this property

Hale'ohe (Bamboo House) Yurt on a small family farm

Located in the beautiful, lush & highly coveted Hilo-Hamakua Coast, amidst wide open spaces of farmland, with scarcely a house in sight, we are bringing a small family farm back to life. Experience life off grid in a yurt. Bathe in the rain water. Enjoy the peace & quiet that can be found in the Hawaiian countryside, while also experiencing local agriculture & farmlife firsthand. Our family calls this place home & we would love to be your host!

(You can find more reviews of our listing here : https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/33880849 )

***

You will have the entire 700sqft+ yurt to yourselves, including the designated outdoors space within the log fence.

We have revamped this 15 year old structure to be simple yet charming, rustic but with basic modern comforts. Enjoy the privacy of a bedroom, furnished with a memory foam king size bed, closet, dresser & small sitting area. Sleep two on the sofa bed, or better yet, climb the bamboo ladder leading to the bamboo loft* -crafted from our very own bamboo cultivated on site- & stargaze through the skylight dome while you doze off to sleep. During the day Hilo bay is visible through the dome & the deck.
*Please do not exceed 350lbs on/in the loft.

Basic appliances such as a propane stovetop, refrigerator/freezer, blender as well as kitchen tools, dinnerware & utensils are available for your use. A pour over coffee cone & filters are provided.

Enjoy the designated outdoors space around the yurt & a private driveway.

Our family lives on the farm & in close proximity to the yurt. Should you need anything we are usually close by. Should you need anything, please communicate via VRBO messages.

***

We are 100% off grid & we use a generator when needed, due to not enough solar power & with high energy use. The more economical we are with electricity, the less you will hear the generator. Normally when the generator must be used it is used in the evening for 1 hour.

Please ensure that you turn off all lights as well as unplug any charging devices whenever you leave the yurt, in order to conserve resources.

Take this opportunity to unplug & enjoy all that nature has to offer!

We provide warm blankets for all beds but please keep in mind that although we are in Hawai'i it can get chilly at night. We are located a few hundred feet above sea level, with wind currents coming down from the mountain, Mauna Kea, which can cause windy, colder nights.

We are located approximately 15 minutes from Downtown Hilo, but far enough in the country side to enjoy the peace & quiet of nature all around. Close to many tourist attractions and natural attractions including but not limited to beaches, waterfalls, trails.

***

We are approximately...
6.5 miles or 11 minutes from Hilo,
9.7 miles or 18 minutes from Akaka Falls,
6.9 miles or 13 minutes from Botanical World Adventures,
3.4 miles or 10 minutes from Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens, and
3.8 miles or 9 minutes from Honoli'i Beach Park.

Papa'ikou is a great home base while you vacation on the island, with easy access to the highway for day trips to Kona, Waimea, Pahoa, Volcano, etc.

Unique home off the beaten path.
Very cool place to stay, not too far off the main road, but feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. Lots of cute farm animals to look at. Wished we could of stayed longer.

Great "Glamping"
Yurt was lovely and quaint. So nice to be away from town. We enjoyed the rain at night. The yurt was very cozy. It actually had more room than I expected. all of the amenities provided were nice. Hosts were generous and kind.

We are a multi-cultural husband & wife team, Beto is from Brazil & Maia is Oahu born. We speak English, Brazilian Portuguese & Spanish. We are artsy- you can see some of our work in our rentals. We love animals & own a few dozen pets. We love the ocean water & enjoy surfing, paddling & beach combing. When we travel we always check out the tourist sites, but the locals & their lifestyle is what we really enjoy. Our best traveling memories are probably honeymooning on Rapa Nui (Easter Island) & road tripping on the California coast with our three kids.
