About this property

Luxury Guest House With River Access

Our guest house offers all the comforts of home in a picturesque wooded setting. Located on 2 acres, this guest quarters away from the main house was designed for relaxation and escape. Approximately 200 feet from the river, open the windows and hear the sounds of the rapids. While the guest house, doesn't have a river view, you can still enjoy sitting by the water watching osprey, eagles and geese soar overhead. Our property has 185 feet of private river frontage to enjoy. Wildlife is abundant. You can fish from the bank for rainbow or cut throat trout or jump into a kayak, raft or tube and float down the river. The guest house is well-appointed with granite countertops, wood accents and homey decor. The kitchen is fully stocked with all utensils, pots, pans, bakeware and dishes necessary to make cooking and dining easy. You will sleep soundly listening to the river in the cozy bedroom on a pillow top queen-sized mattress. In the living room a comfortable queen-sized sofa bed is ready for enjoyment. The guest house has a small desk and chair ideal for use as a work station.
Fall is a great time to kick back and enjoy the beauty of the Larch trees with their changing needle colors. Eagles fly along the river hunting for food. In late October hunting season begins. The area is abundant for whitetail deer, grouse and wild turkeys.
Downtown Bigfork, a charming resort town on the shores of Flathead Lake, is only 5 miles away. There you will find fine restaurants, bars, art galleries and shops offering the best of Northwestern Montana. Hiking, boating, bike riding and water sport rentals are close by as are amenities such as groceries, drugstore and banking. Ferndale Market is a convenience store less than 2 miles away where you can pick up a pizza, fishing supplies, basic foods and camping gear. If you like antiquing, there are numerous antique sellers within a 20 mile radius. If golfing is your thing, Eagle Bend, an award winning golf course, is 10 miles from our property. We are only a few miles from 2 lakes, Swan Lake and Flathead Lake where every type of water sport and activity is available. The only place in the world where the Flathead Cherry grows is along the banks of Flathead Lake. Close to prime huckleberry picking, if you come late July to mid-August, we will direct you to the best spots for picking. Situated only 43 miles from Glacier National Park makes visiting the park easy. The property is 31 miles from Glacier International Airport in Kalispell. During your stay you will have access to a workout room which includes weights, treadmill, bench, kettle bells, BOSU and a medicine ball so you don't have to miss your workouts when you travel. Owners live onsite so your needs can be met promptly but your space is completely private and secluded from the main house. Come here to relax and get away from it all!

Cozy Guesthouse
Vicki and Barry are such a delight and so very accommodating! They gave many suggestions for things to do and places to go around the area. Vicki also baked the most amazing fudge bars and shared them with us. The river is absolutely gorgeous and Zoey is the sweetest thing, she deserves all of the pets ☺️

Hidden Gem
This property is a hidden gem tucked away in Bigfork. The location provides an excellent escape in the woods with the Swan river within a short walk including two chairs overlooking the river for a nice morning or evening view. The cottage is equipped with everything you need including fresh coffee, a comfortable living room to relax after a day on the lake and even a washer and dryer! The owners (Vicki and Barry) are close by to assist with recommendations for dinner and any help for things to do in this beautiful area. I can’t say enough on how welcoming they both are and made us feel immediately comfortable like visiting old friends. Of course we fell in love with the resident golden retriever-Zooey. Beautiful, friendly and always ready to have you throw something for her! We have stayed at many homes and this is exceptional with caring owners willing to share their special place!

About the host

Hosted by Vicki Arndt and Barry Olson

Host profile image
Vicki and Barry completed building our dream home on the banks of the Swan River in 2018. A bi-state relationship, Vicki hails from Southern California and Barry is a 20 year resident of Bigfork. They spend most of their time in one place or the other. Both love the great outdoors. Much of the finish work you will see is Barry's handiwork. He is also an avid outdoorsman - fishing, hunting, boating, hiking - any excuse to get outside! Landscaping is ongoing and ever evolving so if you like digging in the garden, you can join in the fun. Our victory garden is in so you might find some fresh goodies in your quarters during your stay! Vicki owns a financial advising practice and is fortunate to be able to work from anywhere. Vicki is also an active Rotarian. There is a great Rotary Club in Bigfork which meets on Wednesdays at noon. Vicki began going to Bigfork back in 2005 and met Barry in 2015. Work began on the house and guest house in 2017. We love meeting new people so creating this space will give us that opportunity. We are pleased to share our special place with those who find us.

Why they chose this property

One of the most beautiful places on the earth, the setting brings peace and tranquility to all who experience it. Situated along the rapids of the Swan River, you will be able to watch wildlife stroll by and people excitedly float down the river. Take the opportunity to launch from the property for a 2 hour float to the pickup location. If you want a true get away with amenities close by, this is a magnificent place for you. Northwestern Montana is one of the most pristine wildlife corridors in the lower 48. If you love the great outdoors, you have an abundance of opportunities to get out and experience nature. You will fall in love with this area as we did.

What makes this property unique

The setting along the river is second to none. There are many beautiful places on the earth in many different countries, and this spot is among the most magnificent. Close by, during the right time of year, you can pick huckleberries, a Montana delicacy. We will even make it into huckleberry ice cream for you!! If you've never tasted it, you're missing out. Also, the Flathead Cherry is only grown along the banks of Flathead Lake. Another northwestern Montana delicacy. Native people believe that a north flowing river is a holy, healing place. The river flows north in front of our property, and we feel the calming influence of the flow of the river. Ahhhh!
