Introducing the very special Ca’ Del Monastero - a fine antique residence comprising 9 superbly restored apartments of varying size (including Ca’ Del Monastero 1 - see its dedicated section below) situated in what was once the monastery connected to the ancient Church of San Zan Degolà (one of the oldest in Venice), moments from the Grand Canal in the district of Santa Croce.
Enjoying an atmosphere of calm serenity in what must surely be one of Venice’s most evocative and unspoilt neighbourhoods - indeed a step back in time - the Ca’ Del Monastero apartments offer spacious and beautifully presented accommodation for small and medium size parties or up to 38 guests if taken together.*
No expense has been spared in its recent remodelling…
Carefully co-ordinated contemporary furnishings and soft neutral colours meld seamlessly against a traditional backdrop of polished red marble and/or traditional Venetian terrazzo flooring, while stylish high-spec fittings and attractive finishes, such as textured resin walls and luxurious feature wall coverings, give a fresh and fashionable twist to the building’s ancient framework.
Enhanced by a range of up-to-date facilities as demanded by today’s savvy traveller (including air-conditioning**, Wi-Fi internet connection and a communal utility room with washing machine), the Ca’ Del Monastero apartments are perfectly placed for communing with the true and heart and soul of the city and for visiting all that Venice has to offer while providing all the comforts of modern city living.
Ca’ Del Monastero 1
A charming and well-proportioned 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment with picturesque views of the Church, Campo and Rio de San Degolà.
Sleeping four and situated on the 1st floor of the residence with lift, the apartment comprises an attractive main sitting room with beautiful rustic ceiling beams, a large L-shaped sofa ideal for relaxation, trendy clear ‘ghost’ armchairs adding to the feeling of space and two full-length double doors opening onto a pretty Juliet balcony overlooking the square.
Double doors from the sitting room lead directly into a stylish dining room featuring large windows facing the square and a modern-style glass chandelier above a dining suite seating four which in turn leads into a smart, up-to-date and well-equipped kitchen with everything one would require for easy self-catering.
Also facing the campo is a double bedroom with a french-bed sleeping two and a separate bathroom with modern shower just to the side, while to the rear of the property sits the apartment’s chic and very roomy main bedroom with double bed and desk area plus a further separate bathroom with bathtub and shower over.

Our Comment
Style, creature comforts and history combined, in an area brimming with local flavour.
Within easy walking distance of Venice’s Santa Lucia Railway Station and Piazzale Roma if travelling light, and even closer to the vaporetto (waterbus) stops at Riva di Biasio and San Stae on the Grand Canal for hassle-free travel around the city.
And so much to see and do right on your doorstep…
Moments to Campo San Giacomo Dell’ Orio - one of Venice’s most charming ‘away from the crowds’ tree-filled squares and home to a well-stocked Coop supermarket and nearby local shops - and a short walk to a Conad supermarket on the Rio Marin canal.
Close to a great variety of cafes, bars and eateries including All’ Anfora, La Zucca, Il Refolo, Al Prosecco and Antica Besseta to name but a few, and within minutes of the Ca’ Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art, Palazzo Mocenigo at San Stae (Museum of the History of Fabrics, Costumes and Perfumes) and the Fondazione Prada at Ca’ Corner Della Regina.
A leisurely stroll to the 14th Century Franciscan Church of the Frari, (home to Canova's extraordinary triangular marble tomb and Titian's legendary masterpiece, the 'Assumption'), the Scuola Grande di San Rocco with its amazing Tintoretto’s, the vast palazzo-lined Campo San Polo plus the culinary delights and buzz of the Rialto.

We loved the apartment. It was well situated - only a 3 minute walk to a cute square with a grocery store, caffe, bar. We wish we had planned to stay longer than our 3 days. I highly recommend this apartment!

We are delighted to hear that Ca’ Del Monastero 1 was everything you hoped it would be! Do get in touch if you plan on visiting again as we’d be delighted to be of service!
We enjoyed our stay and loved the location; clean, peaceful and efficient. Comfortable beds and nice neighborhood. Only suggestion would be to have additional kitchen towel and extra bath towels.
This is a nice, comfortable apartment on a little plaza, with easy access to water transport to and from the train station (not more than 10 minutes by water taxi). The manager was easy to work with and made a smooth check-in for us, as well as arranging water taxis. The location is away from the crowds, so it was quiet, but still close enough that we walked everywhere. Plenty of food options close by.

A very nice place.
Nice quiet location and an easy walk to the vaporetto and many other place. I can give it a very high recommendation. The management people are great.
I wish I had brought an extension cord to make my electronic devices easier to charge, Also the bedroom furniture could be upgraded.
Roomy, we are a couple, so lots of space. Very quiet neighborhood with food and meat shops, drinks restaurants all nearby. Washer and drying on bottom floor, we needed that. Minor issues, both bathroom sinks have stoppers that don't stop.

Lovely apartment in a peaceful but central location
Beautifully clean. Everything worked. Beds really comfortable. Really lovely welcome. Staff really helpful when asked to arrange taxis and provide local information.
Would have expected an oven rather than just a microwave - I would have loved to have cooked more. Shower cubicle in ensuite a bit cramped but worked well.
This is an especially well appointed and spacious property. The renovation of the apartment was well conceived and nicely accomplished. For Americans who are accustomed to more space it will likely be very attractive. I was particularly pleased by the availability and responsiveness of the apartment's management. I have visited Venice many times, and would recommend this apartment and manager unreservedly.

This place was hands down one of the best apartments I’ve stayed at in Italy. Amenities were great. Air conditioning worked. Kitchen was stocked with enough to cook basic meals. Location.location.location!!! Quiet square close to restaurants and a coop. Close enough to the hustle and bustle of tourist areas but far enough away to be in the real Venice in my opinion.
I would stay here again and the management was great on meeting us and scheduling taxis as well.
Great property in a quiet location. Walking distance to most everything. Hosts very accommodating. Definitely recommend it. I initially rated cleanliness 5 stars but we all got bed bugs from the unit. Costs of treatment now at $2,000 and rising. I want a refund please

Thank you very much for your review, I’m really sorry for the situation you found yourselves in after your stay. I can confirm that, since your stay, many guests has occupied and slept in the apartment with no further issues. These types of insects are the ones that you get especially at the airport when you travel. They nestle into the suitcases of the travelers. They are called travel bugs . We are really sorry but we believe we are not responsible for that.
I am at the same time pleased to hear that you have enjoyed the apartment and hope to host you in one of our properties in the future
Kind regards

Vielen Dank für Ihre freundlichen Worte und ich hoffe sehr, dass wir uns bald wiedersehen!
This is the only property we would return to after 3 weeks of traveling through France, Italy, Europe. Why?
1. We were graciously allowed to drop off our bags before check-in time, freeing us to start enjoying Venice. Our concierge was on time for our (early) appointment and checked us in quickly to provide keys.
2. Apartment is beautifully renovated and furnished, clean, spacious, sunny, and in a quiet campo but near restaurants and shops.
3. Host graciously furnished oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, sugar, tea and coffee (as well as soap and shampoo) in quantity suitable for four.
4. Though we used it only one night, air conditioning was a nice and luxurious option.
5. Shutters fully blocked the light for good sleeping conditions.
We hope we can stay at Ca’ Monastero again soon!
Great location and well organized property managers who also assisted with transport and tours. Great place to stay.

A Venetian gem
Monasterio 1 is modern and spacious. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms convenient. The location is close to Campo San Giacamo dell’Orio, which has a good grocery store (COOP), ice cream shop, bakery, wine shop, and fruit/grocery stand. There are three restaurants in the campo and one (Zucca) just beside it. We tried Patatina and Zucca—both were excellent. The campo is a lively but not noisy meeting place for locals.
The only weaknesses for us were in the kitchen. As we stayed two weeks, we did a lot of cooking. We could have used a flat frying pan. And we found that the induction range could handle only two burners set at max at the same time. The other two wouldn’t go past the #1 setting if the first two were set at #9. So if you’re cooking pasta water and a sauce you can’t conveniently cook your secondo at the same time. Also there is just a microwave but no actual oven. Clearly the kitchen is appropriate for short-term rentals and for who don’t cook a lot.

About the host
Hosted by Views On Venice
Views on Venice was founded in the late 1990’s when the concept of short term apartment rentals was in its infancy and rarely considered an option by most visitors to the city. As a ‘thirty-something’ Venetian excited by the new business and communication opportunities offered by the internet, I decided to link up with a close childhood friend in creating a partnership which, at the time, was a novelty in Venice. The idea we had in mind was to approach the traditional management of my family’s apartments from an entirely different angle, while at the same time resisting the attentions of those wanting to transform my family's palazzo into a prestigious hotel. Our aim was to offer these apartments, as well as those of friends, for rental to an international clientele who’d take pleasure in the comfort, freedom and authenticity of ‘living at home as a Venetian’ rather than merely observing the city from the confines of an anonymous hotel room or suite. The common denominator then, as now, was to offer ‘something extra’ amidst an already extraordinary city - an added dimension which turns a ‘stay’ into an ‘experience’ and a 'dream' into 'reality'.
