Awesome stay!!
We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to stay at your lovely vacation home. Thank you for sharing. We were a family group of ten women and we enjoyed the spaciousness. All the amenities were amazing - toiletries, plush cotton towels, comfy beds with beautiful linens - it all added up to make our stay a memorable one. Thank you to John, our host for his flexibility and good communication. And that view!!! Wow!

The awesome place
We had an amazing time in this property this long weekend. Three friend families shared this property and we are enjoyed it very much! Each bedroom has its own washroom which is very unique and convenient. This house is very well equipped for renters and the owner is very thoughtful and fast responding with any questions. The most unforgettable memory is the view of the house which is spectacular! Love this place and we will definitely come back!

About the host

Host profile image
I am a retired commercial writer who has travelled to over 100 countries on all six continents. For the last 18 years I've lived on Salt Spring Island, and look forward to welcoming you to this wonderful newly-renovated home. You will enjoy what many people consider the best views on on Salt Spring Island.

Why they chose this property

Be the first guests to enjoy this newly renovated home. The West-Coast architect-designed home was planned for casual leisure: up-scale but not formal.

Natural light is everywhere: Living, dining, and bedrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding-glass doors onto private balconies. The house sits on top of a hill at 1,250 ft, so you can watch the sun rise in the east and set in the west.

The house is on two levels:
On the main floor is an open-concept living/dining room. Large windows, and three sets of sliding-glass doors opening onto the wrap-around deck and the panoramic views. The owner lives in a bedroom on this floor.

On the lower level are three bedrooms--you can rent one, two, or all three.

The largest bedroom, with king-sized bed and sitting area, has a floor-to-ceiling picture window overlooking the ocean, islands and mountains, with sliding-glass doors on either side opening to a private deck.

The second bedroom has a Queen bed, The third bedroom has two twin beds.

All bedrooms have their own entrance and key, and full bathroom with bathtub and shower. They all have sliding-glass doors that open to their own private deck, with chairs overlooking the ocean and mountains.

For your security, the main entrance door to the home has its own key-code lock system, changed for each new guest.

On the lower level is a washer and dryer.

What makes this property unique

The house is on 12 acres in a private, rural part of Salt Spring Island, but only 15 minutes drive to the town of Ganges. It has spectacular 180º views of the southern Gulf Islands, the Burgoyne Valley, the Coast Mountains, Mt. Baker, and the Olympic Range. Only two or three other properties on Salt Spring Island enjoy such a panoramic view.

Salt Spring is known for its waterfront and ocean-view homes, artistic community, organic farms, and hillside vineyards. Since the island has over 10,000 residents (up to 20,000 in the summer), Ganges Village is self-sufficient, with normal town services, including restaurants, supermarkets, gas-stations, a 65-bed hospital, and various other shops and amenities.

The island enjoys a mild, temperate climate. It’s mountainous, with protected parks that offer some of the most outstanding scenery in the world.

Nature is enjoyed everywhere: sailing, kayaking, whale-watching, golfing, swimming in the island's 11 lakes and along its 80 miles of beaches, or just hiking over trails in virgin forests where the deer are tame, the air is clear, the silence deep.

Getting around

Salt Spring Island is easy to get to: From Vancouver or Victoria, by either scheduled car-ferries (three different ports) or seaplanes (many daily flights from Vancouver, or Vancouver International Airport). From Victoria international airport the ferry is 35 minutes; from Vancouver the ferries range from 1.4 hours (direct) to 3 hours (island-hopping).

Salt Spring is the largest and most populated of the 200 Gulf Islands between Vancouver and Vancouver Island. At 27 km (17 miles) long and 14 km (9 miles) wide, Salt Spring is 185 square km (74 square miles), about the size of Hong Kong Island and three times the size of Bermuda or Manhattan. It takes 45 minutes to drive from top to bottom.
