Cozy Home in Historic Strawberry Hill with Stunning Views
We had a wonderful stay at this charming Strawberry Hill bungalow—truly a hidden gem—perched above KCK with views of the downtown skyline. It was a peaceful and cool retreat from the summer heat; the air conditioning worked like a dream, even on sweltering days. The home has a lot of character. It’s historic, a little quirky, and you can feel its artistic roots. The furnishings are a bit dated and idiosyncratic, which just added to its charm. The beds were extremely comfortable, and both bathrooms were clean and fully functional. The kitchen was on the smaller side but had updated appliances and everything we needed to cook simple meals. The lower suite was cool and private, but guests should be aware of two things: the ceiling is quite low, and the stairs connecting to the upper suite are very steep—almost ladder-like. It wasn’t a problem for us, but it’s definitely something to know going in.We didn’t get to use the lovely back patio because of the intense heat, but it looked like a great spot to hang out. Instead, we explored the neighborhood, which turned out to be a highlight of our trip. Visiting the Strawberry Hill Museum gave us great insight into the area. We also loved eating at Slaps BBQ (absolutely delicious) and grabbing drinks at Breit’s Stein and Deli—both just minutes away.Overall, this rental was everything we hoped it would be: relaxing, unique, and rooted in local history. It’s not luxury-hotel polish but it has heart, soul, and all the basics covered.
