Beautiful grounds but maintenance of property lacking
Firstly and importantly one thing that is not clear at all in this villa description is that one of the bedrooms, the second room in one of the Trullos is effectively within another bedroom and only accessed through that room. We did not find out until arrival resulting in non related adults on holiday for a week basically having to share a bedroom, which absolutely put a damper on things. It is effectively 4 double rooms and 1 double room with a children's twin room attached.
Also I cannot see the benefit of booking through homeaway at all. When it is time for payment you only pay the homeaway fee through homeaways payment portal, the remainder of the payment is done directly to the villa company, who are slow to respond to emails and also I cannot understand how you get any of the 'protection' of booking through homeaway if they are not processing the payment. When I called homeaway to chase the owners for responses they were useless and told me they can only do the same as me, send messages. I should have taken this as a sign early on of the service and quality to be received but the pictures of the villa looked so nice we persevered.
On to the villa... With the exception of the bedroom situation the villa is as pictured. The common areas are nice and the kitchen well stocked with utensils, plates, cups, etc. There are no locks on any of the doors inside (not even bathrooms) which makes it challenging with young children and a lot of outdoor cushions are now missing from the seating areas which makes them unusable/uncomfortable.
The grounds are large and the two trulli are a few minutes walk from the main house across a rocky slightly hilly path, so be aware when thinking of who will go where.
It's clear no maintenance check was done before we arrived, many lights were not functioning, but we found lightbulbs and changed which lights we could ourselves, the washing machine also stopped frequently mid cycle. We informed the cleaners (who came Monday, Wednesday, Friday) but they clearly didn't pass the message on. When we did inform the company directly they did react quickly and send a maintenance man, but these things should have been checked prior.
Cost of towels and linens, and pool towels, are in addition to the cost above, and no mid week change is included in that cost.
Finally, the WiFi is only in the main house and not in the Trulli and there is very little mobile phone reception in the area, in case that matters for you.
