About this property

At Viejo Fox you will enjoy stunning modern architecture, outstanding ocean views from the large roof terrace and balconies and a large infinity pool in the peaceful garden. It's just steps from an empty beach and situated in the heart of the natural Arenas de José Ignacio, an area surrounded by pine woods and Acacias with abundant bird and wildlife. Here you have the tranquillity and peace of an ocean retreat whilst being minutes away from José Ignacio with its restaurants and cafés.

Great design includes a glass wall in the living area with a wrap around balcony and many super comfortable sun loungers and outside sofas to relax and enjoy the sunsets and ocean views overlooking the famous José Ignacio lighthouse.

The spacious first-floor living room with its floor to ceiling windows has comfortable sofa's, large wood burner, TV and speakers. There is a fully equipped kitchen and two dining areas, one in the large living area and a second relaxed eating area on the outside terrace by the large Parilla and pool.

The master bedroom on the first floor has ocean views, a dressing area and a modern ensuite bathroom with bath. Two further bedrooms on the ground floor overlooking the garden can be either twin rooms or extra large double rooms. A fourth connecting room with a single bed can be used as a bedroom or a second lounge. Viejo Fox has a large garden with hammocks and peaceful secluded areas to relax and a fire pit for evening entertainment.

A couple of minutes walk from Viejo Fox is miles of wild ocean and empty beach. In summer the beach is great for sea fishing, horse riding, surfing or just resting and strolling along. In winter penguins and sea lions enjoy the beach. The views are breathtaking and extend from José Ignacio to Laguna Garzón. Near Viejo Fox are some of the best restaurants, the new beach restaurant by Francis Mallmann and tucked away in the woods Marismo and Namm are just minutes away.

Federica Henderson from Live Uruguay manages the property and will answer your questions and help you when you are staying at Viejo Fox. We can organise extra daily cleaning and help with any activities you would like to book.

We wanted to keep the peace and tranquillity of the house so we have not installed satellite TV. There is a DVD player and we have children and adult DVD's. Netflix is also available. There are some Bose wifi speakers. The cashpoint at the Ancap garage is a little unpredictable good to get cash at the airport or in Punta Del Este.

A beautiful, tranquil place

Viejo Fox is a lovely modern property, in a very quiet area of Jose Ignacio, close to a beautiful surf beach. We loved the pool (that attracted a range of beautiful birds), the parilla for BBQs and all the different areas for lounging. Sarah and Frederica were very helpful and responded to some initial issues we had in a timely manner. We enjoyed surfing lessons, kayaking and horse riding on the beach. We definitely will recommend Viejo Fox to our friends.

Superb!! Extremely satisfying

Viejo Fox is everything advertised. We (grandparents, parents and 8 yr old) had five most enjoyable nights in mid April. We loved the house and the area, even being there in a shoulder season. We had no issues and, if we return to the area, we would definitely lease again. Sarah, the owner, and Federica, the local property manager, were extremely helpful prior to our arrival, as well as, during our stay. The house is about one mile (2 km) out of Jose Ignaico and about a block from the beach in a low density development. The beach is wide, deserted and beautiful with wide area of rolling sand dunes. If one walks or drives the gravel road beyond the house, within a half mile, you’re in ranch country with broad, lovely vistas. A few miles north is a large lagoon for fishing, kite surfing and bird watching (and flamingoes depending on season). The house is warm and welcoming and, as one steps into the upstairs area, the ocean view through the full length, floor to ceiling glass wall is stunning (in fairness, in spite of looking over the top of several houses and the sand dunes beyond). The opposite wall of the living area is also all glass. The open feeling is such that one does not tire of it. The house is very spacious and fully equipped if one wishes to prepare meals. We used the kitchen and the outside parrilla. The parrilla has a nice dining and bar area just off the pool. The living area, bedrooms and baths were spacious and attractively decorated. The roof deck is incredible with great ocean views (living, kitchen and upstairs bedroom also have ocean views). In terms of supplies, there is a small market in Jose (5 minutes) and a large market in La Barra (30 minutes). For dining out, we were there in shoulder season, so several of the highest rated restaurants had closed for the season (two within half mile if in season), but we had fantastic dinners and lunches during our stay at the so-called “second tier” places. We did not have a single disappointing meal. The area is very safe and everyone we met were very friendly and helpful. We spent time on the beach, walked the community lanes, visited the lighthouse, relaxed by the pool, drove into La Barra/Manantailes and up to the lagoons, and made the hour drive out to Bodega Garzon (and Francis Mallman restaurant). All in all, great house, great trip. We recommend very highly.

Such a beautiful home and wonderfull setting

Thanks you so much Sarah for letting us share your beautiful home. We had a wonderful stay and everything was just perfect. Our stay was the last leg of our South America trip before heading back to Switzerland and we couldn't of asked for such a peaceful and relaxing final resting post! The house is beautifully presented, modern, well equipped and the pool just adds that extra 'wow'. Frederica made us so welcome when we arrived and made time to explain how everything worked. The beach was 'to die for' and the beach walk to Jose Ignacio was breath-taking. We will hopefully return to Uruguay to visit friends and will have no hesitation in reserving your super home again. An amazing sanctuary

Viejo Fox is the perfect property for this location. Great views and a wonderful infinity pool. It is well maintained and has a wonderful property manager who was there to greet us and handled a few issues during our twelve days in prompt fashion. She was immediately responsive whenever we reached out to her which added the the restful stay immensely.

After a week in Buenos Aires, Colonia and Montevideo, the week at VF was purely for relaxing. The house was perfect, the location great and the general easiness and friendliness of everyone we met was exactly what was required. Loved Garzon bridge and the fish man by the bridge.

We were attracted to buying a home near José Ignacio because of the peace, tranquillity and beauty of its beaches and countryside, the friendliness of the Uruguayan people and the excellent climate. José Ignacio has many excellent restaurants and cafe's and is a great place to surf, ride, cycle and fish.
