Comfortable and quiet location
The property was located to the east side of the quiet village of Costacabana. The beach was lovely and sandy and stretched for around a couple of miles. We enjoyed walking along the entire length of the promenade and then stopping for a coffee in the local cafe. We eat at the Jimenez and El Lagardo restaurants and both were nice. The local shop was well stocked too.The property was in a quiet location and there was a good bus service into Almería.
Well-equipped home with charming outdoor spaces- courtyard, back patio and rooftop deck. It’s outside the city but the bus is just a couple blocks away so that you can see the sights in Almería. Kitchen has everything you might need. Several cafes and restaurants are within walking distance.

The villas closeness to the beach
The villa was nice, has everything you need for self-catering, very close to a lovely beach which has a little bar where you can have a light lunch, coffee or a drink looking out to the ocean. The two restaurants which are in the area unfortunately not open during our stay which was in may, there is a well stocked shop 5 minutes away and there is a regular bus sevice into almeria which is only one euro ten cents each.If you are looking for a relaxing holiday this is one we would recommend staying at.

Winter in Almeria
A wonderful time during Christmas time and New Year in Almeria. The climate is perfect for winter if you like golf, barbecue and visit the town for history and shopping. The house was perfect for us and very convenient for our purposes. Thanks to Martin and Rhona for the very familiar house.

Ann,
I'm very sorry for the problem with the oven you encountered, this was most unforeseen. We did our utmost to rectify the problem as soon as we could, the temporary solution was provided by a qualified electrician which I understood to be perfectly safe. Again I am sorry if you felt uneasy about it. If you would like to stay again I would be happy to offer a discount as a good will gesture.
Best regards,

Holiday in copacabana
Almeria is a pleasant , vibrant city , people are very friendly and approachable. The bus service in and out of Almeria is excellent, very cheap, drivers very helpful .
The villa in copacabana is well situated from the airport, there are 3 bars / restaurants within walking distance , again all the staff very pleasant and helpful.
Local shop well stocked for essentials .
Pizza & Mexican restaurants worth a visit , our favourite has to be the cafe LA MAYOR , a walk along the front , tapas and beer excellent value , staff and locals great .
Overall our stay was relaxing,
and pleasant, recommend to the older generation.
This splendid property is located in a peaceful area, close to the beach and a short drive, (or bus ride) into the wonderful city of Almeria. The property is very well equipped with good quality fixtures, fittings and everything one could need whilst on holiday. We especially liked the fact that the courtyard garden at the front was mostly in shade most of the day whilst the garden at the rear was similarly in full sunshine.
Excellent communications with Martin ensured a trouble free booking process and stay. We have over the past 30 years rented properties all over the world and this is up there with the best. If we return to Almeria area this property is where we would stay.

This part of Spain has so much to offer yet isn’t overrun with tourists. Casa Jamila has all that’s needed for a comfortable stay. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable lounge area, decent bedrooms (one en suite). Costacabana is quite densely built up but still quiet. A car is just about essential as there’s one local shop and not many eateries. We enjoyed eating at El Lagarto - so friendly. Casa Jamila is about 10 min drive from two good supermarkets. Although situated virtually adjacent to the airport it’s really not a problem as there are a limited number of flights. The local beaches are very good and drive east up the coast to many more unspoilt beaches.

Hi Steven,
Thank you very much for your nice review, so please you enjoyed your time in our villa and the surrounding Almeria area.

Casa Jamila is a lovely villa, ideal for a week’s or longer stay. All the rooms were well maintained, kitchen fully equipped and sufficient space for 6 adults (assuming 2 don’t mind being in a single/bunk bed). There is ample outside space, providing plenty of opportunity for being in the sunshine or the shade. Straightforward check in/check out process and easy communication with the owner. Having stayed in Costacabana before, we felt immediately at home. If you wish to explore further afield, a car is helpful otherwise regular buses into Almeria are available and the local shop is well stocked. Would happily return...

The house had everything that we needed. Kitchen equipment, games and comfort. We were able to get our winter sun, but was also cosey in the house with a good efficienct heater in the evenings.
We did not get a car, but coped with the cheap and regular bus service. The big supermarket is walkable at about a mile and a half away.
The fish restaurant is fantastic, I highly recommend it at the end of the beach. Good service good food. And for us a daily walk to the coofee shop to sit to stare out at the sea and practise our poor Spanish became a nice routine.
Thank you.

not bad but ...
We did like the house but we did not like the heating with gas bottle. The airport is very near and sometimes they do test flights with boeings...lots of noice. The Mexican restaurant is not super. The tapas bar El Mayor is nice and Jimenez restaurant is not bad but crowdy on saturday and sunday (reservation needed). Nice to be near the supermarkets as Mercadonna, Aldi and Mr Cash. Cabo de Gata (nature parc} is top> The plastick sea is very ughly. Mariella is a treasor.

I'm sorry to hear you did not have as enjoyable time in Costacabana as you would have liked.
We have found the gas heater a very efficient form of heating when we have stayed during the winter, central heating is not common in this area of Spain. It would seem you were unlucky that your stay coincided with the occasional flight training day at Almeria airport, previous guests have said the airport did not disturb them at all. Once again I am only sorry your holiday did not match your expectations.

Great comms from the Martin, the owner before we arrived and the local manager was lovely.
The villa is only 4km from Almeria airport and so we didn't hire a car. We wondered if that was going to be a problem, but there are plenty of bars and restaurants in walking distance and a small shop that sells a bit of everything that is close by. You can also catch the bus into the city from a bus stop that is only 5mins walk from the villa.
The villa is only 2mins walk to the beach, which is quiet and great for a quick dip to cool down.
The villa was ideal for us, with an internal courtyard that provides shade in the day and a sunny garden which is relatively private too with some beautiful planting , plus a roof terrace if you prefer.
The living area is well equipped, with doors and windows that provide air flow, a good kitchen, comfortable sofas, TV and hifi with Bluetooth and USB inputs.
The villa would work well for families or couples, as a base for exploring the area, or, as a fly and flop break in the sun.
Costacabana feels like 'authentic Spain' and you will not find bars and restaurants that are catering exclusively for travellers, which suited us. We had the chance to experience living as locals, walking up and down the promenade in the evenings and enjoying Spanish coffees in beachfront bars in the mornings.
We would definitely return to Costacabana and hopefully to Villa Jamila.

Enjoyable Stay
Your house is just as described in the VRBO text. However, I did not realize that it was that close to the airport. Since we both like to watch airplanes and since there are only a few flights daily and since we were out and about by Cabo de Gata a lot, it was very nice anyways, and very practical. For the beach, it's perfect. I think a car is a good asset here to be able to visit all the incredible parks and the other beaches and villages around. Maybe it is because we arrived at 6:30 in the evening that the property manager was in such a hurry. She gave us our keys, told us where to put them when we leave and she was gone: no hello, no explanations. Not the most welcoming experience. The key situation was a bit disturbing at first: every room has a key and what possibly was a color coding no longer was. We kind of figured it out. The wifi is a bit weak-but it does work with patience. The air-conditioning and fans in the bedrooms great plus. However, the fan in the first bedroom--the on suite bathroom one, makes a disturbing clicking sound--should be looked after. Ants are abounding and need to be taken care of, and the many little dogs around the neighborhood barking a lot....but such is life and it did not impact our stay when looking at the whole picture. Thanks Martin and Rhona. We would definitely like to come back to Casa Jamila and explore more of the region.

I’m very sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay at our home.
We try our very best to make the house as comfortable and with everything you could possibly need, but are always looking to make improvements, your comments have been noted. However, I do feel some of your comments are a bit unwarranted. All the bedrooms have heating and the gas heater is more than adequate to heat the open plan living area, we have spent many winter months there and never been cold. We provide two large gas bottles, which in normal circumstances
is more than sufficient, to provide more is not practical as it is simple to replace them when empty with refilled ones. I am informed the hoover is in working order, dishwasher consumables are not normally supplied, we do usually provide a few washer tablets, perhaps not
on this occasion, however when staying for such a length of time all such items will require purchasing. Olive trees shed their olives over a long period of time and it is not possible not to have olives on the ground, this is usually seen as a part of a natural garden scene.
Again, I am sorry our home was not to your taste, perhaps a closer look at the photos and description would have helped when choosing.
Regards Martin

Buena ubicación, casa amplia y bien equipada

About the host

Ours is a family owned villa, head of which is Maggie who has been coming to 'Casa Jamila' for many many years. Now the villa is being looked after by her younger family members who have in recent years fully refurbished and modernized it.
Why they chose this property
Perfect location for people looking for a quite retreat right by your own beach. 5 mins from Almeria airport with flights to Gatwick 2 hours away. The airport only have on average 10 flights a day so is hardly noticed. 10 mins from the historic provincial capital Almeria town. 25 mins from Cabo de Gata Natural Park peninsular.
