The house and property exceeded our expectations and our family enjoyed our stay. The bugs were pretty bad near the river but the large catfish catches made it worth it.
Stayed for Thanksgiving holiday with adult kids who live in VA. Perfect place for families of all ages. House was cozy, clean, well appointed and location on river was fantastic and short drive to Luray. Would definitely stay againd.
We Love this home. Everything about this property is peaceful snd inviting. This was our 3rd vacation at Papa Bears and we cannot wait to return! Super clean and comfortable. Communication with the owner was immediate. The daily visits from the deer and turkeys were a plus. A1 rating . We dream about owning a cabin exactly like Papa Bears someday soon.
We stayed at this cabin for a few days and had a wonderful time. We loved the large yard and fire pit, and the river is very peaceful and serene. There is a semi-busy road behind the property, but it was not a problem for us. Access to the river is a little difficult as the bank is very high, but it didn't detract from our enjoyment.
Cute cabin! We enjoyed the beautiful views, kids’ toys, hot tub, s'mores at the fire pit, and nearby trails and Luray Caverns. Highly recommended listing!
We enjoyed our stay for a weekend getaway. View of the river was really nice and property was private aside from the road nearby. We enjoyed the fire pit with provided firewood. Everything was clean and beds were comfortable. Would stay again.
The property was beautiful. We really enjoyed our walks along the river. The cabin was so comfortable and clean. We are looking forward to returning again. It was well worth the cost!
This cabin was spot on. Beautiful location, privacy and everything you would need for a relaxing stay. The owners were very friendly in speaking with. I have stayed at numerous rentals in my lifetime but this one..."papa bear cabin" is one that had me and the gang wanting to rent again and again.
Thank you sooo much Bonnie n family for the heartfelt feel, cleanliness and all the amenities of your beautiful cabin!
We so look forward to booking again with you. 🤗❤️
We had 2 families stay in this cozy cabin for 3 days, it has all the amenities you could ever ask for. Located in a gorgeous private space, with rolling hills, on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. The kids, aged 6 and 12, caught their first fish!!!
This is our second visit to this cabin — it was just as wonderful as the first. The cabin is beautiful, stocked with anything you could need. Fishing was great — the bass were biting! We look forward to a 3rd visit in the future!
Beautiful, well appointed house that was the perfect backdrop for a peaceful long weekend with my family. We shared food, fellowship, fishing, relaxation, some sightseeing all on the comforts of what felt like a home away from home. The owners are extremely nice, helpful and easy to contact. You will not go home at their beautiful cabin. We didn’t and will be back.
Had a wonderful stay at this beautiful cabin. The pictures are spot on. Beautifully decorated, clean, and spacious for our family. Enjoyed the scenery and privacy. We have stayed at several different cabins in the area and this one is by far our favorite!!
We loved this property- beautiful views of the river and serene expansive countryside. The location was great - secluded but not cut off from the world. The 15-20 min drive to Luray (via fully paved roads) was perfect! The house was clean, well-equipped, and so cozy for hanging out inside or outside. We loved the deck facing the river (the time of year was perfect for unobstructed views of the river). The owners provided a TON of firewood for the fire pit, and we would have used it every night if the weather had cooperated. (We couldn’t find a lighter, so be sure to bring one if you plan to have a fire, just in case.) As far as cell service/wi-fi/satellite, I expected minimal service, but overall we had no major issues, a few blips and slowness, but we didn’t go there to be plugged in anyway. We fished a bit and caught two bass (saw lots of large bass), so that was fun! The bank of the river was very steep in most places, and there are animal (Fox? Groundhog?) holes by the river’s edge, so be cautious with little ones, especially since the holes are hard to see with the vegetation. We had meals at Gathering Grounds (very slow service during lunch time, but excellent food), Ollie Cat (short-staffed but still great service, fun place, good food), Rancho Viejo (excellent fast and friendly service, delicious food), and Alexander’s (very slow but friendly service, ok food). Skyline drive and Luray Caverns are incredible!! Great family trip all around!
This wonderful cabin is well equipped with all the essentials and then some! It was clear to us that the owners take pride in their place and that it is full of great memories. It is cleverly decorated and the gas fireplace throws out some awesome heat. Very peaceful and lots of space for a family to enjoy- as well as many extras for kids including games, outside toys and more. We loved our stay!
Loved this property. This was the second time we stayed here, and the first time we have ever returned to a place for another stay. This cabin's location is wonderful, right on the river, no other cabins close by and beautifully decorated. The Christmas decorations were a great welcome! Thanks for another wonderful stay at Papa Bear's Cabin! We will be back again :)
Five girlfriends that graduated in 1983 that only saw each other intermittently thru the decades needed an escape plan from the humdrum of life. This beautiful cabin was the halfway point from our homes in Pa and NC. We were in awe of how serene the property was,. The weather was great to sit outside by the fire pit, relaxing by the river.
The home was well kept and stocked with anything you need the prepare meals. There was plenty of room for the five us and the beds were very comfortable. I would highly recommend a stay here.
