About this property

Experience the Victorian-West @Riot Material Ranch

The high-desert retreat of Riot Material Ranch is nestled into the rolling foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains, just a stone’s throw from Joshua Tree National Park. Our home is designed in the rough yet refined manner of Western Steam-Punk meets high-plains Bordello-Saloon. A striking Victorian Spiral Staircase holds center stage, while charming one-of-a-kind, individually picked vintage pieces of furniture and ornaments give your stay an artistic welcoming!

We offer an environment that values creativity and intellect and will inspire the artistic drive within you! Our home showcases lovely dark-stained wooden ceilings, windows and French doors. Warm hardwood flooring upstairs and a cooling concrete floor downstairs, the space is artistically decorated with a Western-Victorian vintage-chic interior and finished with hand-selected industrial vintage light fixtures. There is one large master bedroom with an open on-suite bathroom. This main bedroom has double French door windows with magestic views of the Pioneertown Mountains Preserve. You can bathe in the claw-foot tub and let your mind roam the wild terrains of the Preserve. Feel free to use the two armoires for your clothes, and for deep winters and high summers be sure to turn on the heater/AC units as needed. The remote for this unit is on the wall next to the armoire. For much of the year, however, the ceiling fan and open windows is all you will ever need.

The Victorian cast iron spiral staircase lands just at the edge of the second loft bedroom, aka the Studio Bedroom. This room also has double French door windows which look out over the rocky, high desert terrains of Rimrock and the rolling foothills of the San Bernadino Mountains. A ceiling fan and an air conditioner/heater also keep this room comfortable in any season (the remote is on the wall next to the armoire). Both rooms have orthopedic queen beds, luxurious black Egyptian cotton sateen weave bedsheets and down pillows and duvets. Bedroom floors are laid in hardwood and stained in dark walnut.

The two bathrooms - one upstairs and one downstairs - have turn-of-the-century claw-foot tubs which sit in Victorian-inspired tiled enclaves, each beneath a lovely archway.

The cottage-style kitchen has 100-year old redwood cabinets, rescued from a fallen barn, and a modern concrete counter top. It has all modern appliances and plenty of chinaware and cutlery for your enjoyment, and everything you need for morning tea and coffee. It is open plan with view into the living-room and beyond. Our couch comfortably seats up to 8 people for easy conversations with friends and family. We have a gas & charcoal grill BBQ at the back of the house.

Riot Material Ranch sits on 5 acres of pristine high desert land at the northern edge of Pioneertown Mountains Preserve, traversing hundreds of thousands of acres designated to desert wilderness. The quaint village of Rimrock, just to the North, is an easy stroll along the dirt roads at the Western edge of our land.

The young trees on the land immediately around the house are mesquite, olive, cottonwood, desert willow, acacia, Texas umbrella, scrub oak and, of course, the cherished Joshua Tree. Plants such as sage, lavender, sugar bush, desert mallow, ocotillo, various cacti and succulents as well as numerous natives make the walk around both the driveway and the surrounding land an absolute pleasure!

There is outside seating everywhere on the land. Stoll up to Rock Garden Bench at the Western corner of the land for a silent and solitary morning tea or an early evening glass of wine, climb up into the Bird House to shade from the heat for an afternoon tea or sit in quiet meditation, wander up to Panorama Point to experience the view of Sawtooth Mountain Range, Pipes Canyon, Rimrock Village and beyond. Enjoy an early dinner seated at Banquet Bench in the center of our young Eucalyptus Grove, and lastly, enjoy a restful swing on a starry night under the desert sky from the Hammock Quadrant, placed perfectly in the Four Directions; North, South, East and West.

Our year-round Cowboy Hot Tub, nestled in among the native shrub oak is for day time use or evening soaks under the stars. It can be left cool and fresh in the Summer months for a refreshing dip or heated for a hot soak in the evenings or the Winter months.

Enjoy iconic photo opportunities in and around our spacious, luxuriously renovated 1959 Vintage Airstream which sits proudly on the land, designed with style and innovation reflecting the mood of a sensual boudoir. In addition, enjoy the vibe of our cute 1958 Vintage Corvette Trailer.

Great time!
Property is quiet and clean. Everything needed was available, though the absence of a microwave requires a bit more planning for meal prep. Other than that, an absolutely delightful place.

Starry skies and meteorites
We came to Pioneertown to watch the Perseid meteor shower. Had a lovely, relaxed weekend reading and cooking during the day and watching the stars at night. The house is very, very comfortable. Temperature-wise, space-wise, equipment-wise (cooking)... all was ideal for our stay. Beds are comfortable and amenities such as towels, bathing liquids and cooking items were ample and appreciated. We loved our stay.

Absolutely Fantastic! Look No Further!
I only have fantastic things to say about the hosts and the property. This property is stunning. The photos do not do it justice at all. You are greeted with beautiful and peaceful surroundings the moment you arrive. The hosts are incredibly responsive and made our quick weekend getaway super smooth. This trip was just for my wife and me, however, this would be a great place to bring a larger family or group of friends. I would 100% stay here again and recommend this to anyone looking at it.

Amazing property and location. Check in process was super easy and Rachel was very proactive in communication. It’s a wonderful area with beautiful acres of land and unbelievable stars at night. Super cool property and very comfortable beds! We had such a great time and would love to return.
