"Under the Castle" is a large basement apartment at the top of the hill leading up to the site of the castle in Ornans. The kitchen and living room are spacious, there is a large terrace with an amazing view over Ornans, and the apartment stayed cool despite the summer heat due to it's hillside setting and effective shutters. There is a lot of equipment and provision for babies and small children (which we didn't need to make use of). There is a very friendly donkey in the field next door! The main bedroom is accessed from the living room by a concertina partition. The mattress was very firm (too firm for me), and there was very limited storage for unpacking, so we didn't bother, just lived out of our bags. There is a corridor leading to the bathroom and second bedroom. Second bedroom was spacious and had storage. The bathroom is very small, and the shower cubicle is also very small and in need of replacement. You cannot avoid getting entangled in the shower curtain when using the shower! The kitchen had a variety of cooking appliances, but none was very clean. There was a good and clean fridge-freezer. There was a large table, but it was the only space to prepare, eat and store food. The apartment is in need of a deep clean, a tidy and sort-out to improve its presentation, and improvements to kitchen and bathroom. Our main contact while there was Julien, who was very friendly, helpful and responsive. We had very limited contact with Virginie before our stay.
