On a two week tour of France, in terms of locale, this was the most beautiful and charming place we stayed. Had the apartment been clean, the rating would have been 5 stars. But it was absolutely filthy. It was clear that no one had cleaned it. There was hair in the bathroom sink, a huge dead spider in the middle of the bathroom floor, unswept floors throughout, a filthy kitchen sink, glasses in the cupboard with crusted food on them, and a refrigerator that stank - it had crumbs all over and old food left from previous tenants, including a half-eaten salami that stank to high heaven. It made me wonder if they even bothered to change the sheets. The washing machine was completely antiquated and covered in mold and filth inside. The owners should know that charm doesn't substitute for cleanliness.
