Beautiful villa, beautiful location
Six of us stayed in this villa for a week during August 2018. Our party included an 8 year old boy and 3 older kids. We had a great week and thoroughly enjoyed the villa, it's garden and pool, the locality, the weather and the local food.
The villa itself was really stunning - beautifully kitted out and in a superb location, with amazing views across the valley and down to the sea in the distance.
The pool is superb - a really decent size, with plenty of space for lounging around it, and perched on a terrace above and behind the villa with unspoilt views down the valley.
The local village of Dolcedo is incredibly quaint and feels like a tiny slice of rural, mountainside Italy. We ate out at 3 local restaurants all of which were good - in particular the pizzas. The village is walkable and we walked there most days. However, the walk back whilst beautiful - up through a cobbled, hillside path winding between idyllic looking properties - is no easy trek and a degree of fitness is required!
Whilst we loved the location, it may not be perfect for someone who fears heights. The drive up from the main mountain road is pretty hairy - up a narrow, winding and in places incredibly steep single-carriageway road.
We would point out that the property is spread out over several floors with each bedroom being on a separate floor. This is worth bearing in mind for any family with a young child, wanting to have a proximate bedroom.
Our only criticisms are that there was no air-con (which would have made our stay more comfortable) and the retro game player wasn't in working order. However, these did not detract from the overall enjoyment of our stay which was fabulous.
We did not find that there was an enormous amount to do in the area but we had a few pleasant excursions, including to the beach and a local natural pool. This property is perhaps not ideal for a group wanting lots of varied excursions but it was ideal for us - seeking a peaceful and relaxed holiday in a luxury villa in a beautiful setting.
Finally, but by no means least, we found the owner Rob very helpful and quick to respond to any queries we had. Silvia , the housekeeper, was lovely and went above and beyond to help us out - especially when we accidently drove off on our final day without the hire car parcel shelf! She drove half an hour to meet us by the side of the motorway with it. We're still very grateful, Silvia, thank you!
Beautiful house in pretty little Italian town
Overall we really enjoyed our stay here. The house is spacious, with lots of levels, and kitted out with everything you might need. The pool is gorgeous and we used it a lot to look out over the countryside to the sea.
Silvia, the housekeeper, met us and showed us around, and was available to answer any queries, always responding promptly.
The town is pretty and has many restaurants. It is worth a wander around the back streets to discover ancient buildings and bridges. The Da Lalla was busy, with very friendly staff and a good menu, but in the town square we visited a pizzeria for lunch only to be told pizza was not on that day! What we did eat was good though. The walk back up the hill is short, but strenuous in hot weather, especially for those not quite so fit.
We had a couple of issues while there. Firstly the retro games table in the games room was broken. Rob the owner took time out to try to fix it over the phone, but to no avail. One slightly disappointed teenage son there!
We also had a problem with algae in the pool which was dealt with within a few hours by Silvia and was clean and usable by the next morning.
Very comfortable and superbly well equipped house, four great bedrooms and good bathrooms, with three beautiful outdoor areas with Sun and shade. Pool outstanding. Gorgeous hilly area with lots of flora and fauna and walking, pretty village and plenty of things to do locally. Whale watching from Imperiain the cetacean sanctuary highly recommended - stunning!
Lovely house. Brilliant location.
We loved everything about this. The only negative was the mosquitoes....
Great stay in a beautiful location. The swimming pool is fantastic and Silvia and Rob were very helpful. Thank you!
The property is located in a small rural village called Dolcedo, with views of the Mediterranean Sea through green & silver olive tree lined valleys. There are a selection of excellent local restaurants, a bank and shops. The beach and Imperia town are 10 minutes drive. San remo 20 mins, Montecarlo 45 mins. The nearest airports are Nice and Genoa each are just over an hours drive away. Turin airport is just over 2 hours. There are beautiful mountain walks and drives and the area is very popular with skiers, cyclists and golfers. The food and wine of the region are superb - second to none. Tranquiliy, luxury and perfection with all the required facilities at hand.
