Named in honor of an Italian immigrant who settled in Napa in the early 1900’s to grow vegetables for his new-found community. Frank Massa built this mediterranean cottage as a wedding gift for his wife-to-be in 1930. The two bedroom, one bathroom cottage is listed on the historic register and fully restored to its original elegance & appointed with original furnishing and fixtures from the 1930's.

Enter this stunning residence through the garden courtyard bordered with potted plants and feel immediately at home. The formal living will welcome you with the sophistication of Persian rugs, built in shelves with books for your perusal, inviting fireplace, writing desk and comfortable sitting area. Continue through the French doors to the formal dining room that is certain to stimulate your appetite. Enjoy a bottle of wine in the garden over a game of Bocce Ball!

Take a short walk up First Street to the heart of the downtown where restaurants, wine tasting rooms and shops abound. St. Helena Hwy is just a few blocks away and will take you to any of the vineyards and wineries you have dreamed of.

The charming, refurbished kitchen, with its sunny breakfast room, is the perfect place to take pleasure in your morning coffee or afternoon tea. The bedrooms are tastefully furnished, one with Mediterranean style furniture and Adra’s dressing table, the other with Art Deco Waterfall furniture. A wonderful night’s sleep awaits you in these dreamy beds, complete with fine linens.

Let the last bit of stress melt away while you soak in the deep, cast iron tub. Admire the skillfully tiled floor and craftsmanship of a time past.

Loved it!

The home is gorgeous! It felt luxurious to just lounge in the living room amid the antiques and tasteful decor. The bocce court is a nice touch. And the location is convenient.

Great location!

beautifully decorated with period piecesA tad dark for my tastes, could use more lighting. A TV in a common area is needed - watching a show as a group in the bedroom - a little awkward!

Charming Spanish Colonial near downtown

Beautiful and charming 1930’s Spanish Colonial walking distance to downtown with many original features and furniture. This historical home was gorgeous and we loved seeing the picture of the original owners hanging in the dining room. It had an adorable sunny breakfast nook off of the kitchen to enjoy your morning coffee, a front patio for soaking up some sun and beautiful grounds with lovely Camilla flowers and plenty of trees. The host was very communicative and friendly and it was the perfect place to unwind and relax. The beds had luxurious linen sheets and duvet covers and were very comfortable. We can’t wait to come back during the summer months to enjoy the bocce ball court and the rattan loungers. A real gem and a nice change from the generic gray rentals that seem to be everywhere.

Perfect Location

Great location and price for a quick trip to Napa. Enjoyed walking to town (Winston’s has the best breakfast!) and being close to the highway. Two changes that would have made the stay even better (a TV in the living room and better bath towels). Overall we had a great stay and enjoyed the historical touches!

Wonderful 1930s Napa experience

Beautiful small 1930’s house with similar time period furnishings. Hist was excellent and very responsive during checking process and in immediately taking care of a small maintenance item that cropped up during our stay. Perfect location for short walk to downtown Napa. Very, very nice property.

Two-week Napa Get-Away

We had the most relaxing two-week stay in Napa, made perfect by our FJ Massa house accommodations. The house has it all: convenient location to downtown and the freeway to the wineries and Valley; comfortable beds; a fully equipped kitchen for cooking meals in and a bright breakfast nook or dining room for enjoying them; a beautiful garden area for afternoon reading; books; and so much more. Our hosts were super responsive and the house was immaculate. Whether you’re planning a get-away weekend or an extended stay like we had, the Massa house offers a cozy (yet updated) return to the 1930s that will delight history and architecture buffs while accommodating the needs of the contemporary vacationer.

This is a great house and I just have one complaint. There was no info about the password for joining the internet. This took considerable time looking, then contacting VRBO, waiting for the process to contact the property manager and get the info back to us.

Wonderful location

My adult daughter and I stayed at this charming house for a few days of exploring Napa and Sonoma. It was wonderful. The home is decorated in period furnishings and we loved it. It had everything we needed and was very clean and comfortable. We were so happy to have a quiet place to come home to at the end of the day. The back garden was a great place to share a cheese plate and a final glass of wine.

Absolutely beautiful !

My husband and I decided on the Massa Cottage for our 25th anniversary trip to Napa and Sonoma. We fell in love with both California and this cottage. It was perfect for us. The 1930's decor was so quaint. It was the perfect size for us. The kitchen made it so easy to eat at home before a day of wine tasting. The fruit trees in the yard allowed us to have fresh fruit for breakfast. The neighbors were so incredibly kind and welcoming. We truly loved this cottage and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a well priced stay conveniently located so close to downtown Napa.

Charming house / Unaccommodating property manager

Overall, the house was fine. The location was good, and if you're enamored by the 1930's art deco, this is the house for you-- lighting fixtures, furniture, bathroom tile, etc., all created an authentic look. However, the 1930's mirrors and light fixtures did make it a challenge to do one's makeup. If you battle allergies, you'll struggle here. The basement is damp, and although the owner has both a door and dehumidifier between the basement entrance and the house to combat the problem, the damp smell remains. I've been home for two days and have realized that I need to launder even my clean clothes because they smell like that house. The garden is pretty and well maintained, but outside seating is limited, and the chairs by the bocce court were broken. The bath towels were dark brown (and could have benefited from a good bleaching), but the sheets were of high quality and the beds were comfortable. Most notable for us was the rude interaction with the property manager. We contacted him to ask if we could leave our luggage at the house past check-out because our friend (who was also our transportation) had to return to work in San Jose on our last day, and we had hoped to just pack up, leave our bags, and spend the day walking around downtown Napa before going to the airport. To be honest, I had really expected him to say "sure," since the property wasn't going to be re-occupied for the next 3 days. His response was quite the contrary. He informed me that I should have "reserved a full service hotel rather than a house!!!" and that he was "not responsible for [my] items after check-out!" The negative interaction magnified the house's flaws, which is a shame because despite the dampness, the house really was charming and convenient.

The house was clean and spacious, but missing all the extras

It was a bit disappointing in all honesty. We visit the Valley every couple of months and have stayed in oodles of vacation rentals. This house is in a perfect location, close to downtown Napa and within walking distance of our favorite tasting room PureCru - but it's missing all of the thoughtfulness that goes into the convenience of renting a house. We traveled with friends who came from the east coast and we're from MN. We stayed for a long weekend and were attending some events. Typically we eat some meals out, but like the convenience of having a kitchen so that we can cook in. This house had NOTHING that we are used to. Most often the homes that have at least some basics in the kitchen and we're used to the pay it forwards. If you buy things like butter, olive oil, etc. and don't use it all, you leave it for the next guest. Same with basics of condiments, especially at least SALT & PEPPER! The shakers were literally empty. Yes, there were a few packets that someone left behind from fast food, but seriously. There was a couple of coffee filters, but no coffee. There was only two rolls of toilet paper - for four adults, a Thurs. through Sun. - fortunately, we didn't run out because we were away from the house a lot. The old house has a basement and smelled musty as soon as we entered. There were no rugs in the entry or kitchen and it was a rainy weekend. The beds were comfortable but the towels smelled musty when you dried off from a shower. Ish. There were robes in the closets, which we didn't touch, but they could skip that and invest in the kitchen goods. No water filter, no bottled water, notta. The biggest problem for us was the Internet. We conduct work and fast speed is a must. We were able to log on right away, but the actual Internet service was sporadic and slow as heck. We even tried resetting the router, to no avail. There were two monitors set up as televisions in the bedrooms, but no batteries in the remotes. There is not a television in the main sitting room, which was a problem for one of our sports fan guests. There were DVD's sitting around in that room, which seemed odd. The lighting is poor throughout and the outlets in the bedrooms are old so the hairdryers etc. that we tried to plug in kept falling off the wall. The owners should invest in power strips for the guests. Anyways, there are way better options out there. Look around at reviews. It's important. ~Disappointed four.
